He wondered for a moment, Blade’s corpse gradually turning cold in his arms, what might have happened if Blade had never been cursed with mara.
He would have died as Yingxing, died to Jingliu’s sword as punishment for the crimes he committed with Dan Feng.
But what if he’d managed to survive somehow, managed to still meet Dan Heng? What if they’d managed to break past Dan Feng’s legacy, managed to cultivate a bond that didn’t hinge on sins of the past?
It was a preposterous, delusional notion. One that probably never would have even been possible.
