Past Behavior is the Best Predictor of Future Behavior - Jingle Bell Schlock Dec 24

Summary:

Motthew and Cricket needle Siggy about his past with Regi.

Notes:

I had a whole other story for the Three Unwise Men prompt but I felt like this needed to be written too, because these men are SO UNWISE when they're together lol.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"No, they were an elf at that time." Siggy's exasperated voice cut through the giggles from Motthew and Cricket.

"But did you know they were a shapeshifter? Did the golden eyes not give it away? Is that not a marker for a changeling?" Motthew winked at Cricket as he kept up the ridiculous line of questioning.

Siggy rolled his eyes, just about done with his friends. "Guys, there were two other people there too. My attention was divided. And they kind of stayed at the edges. It didn't really register in the moment because I was…enjoying myself…but they didn't so much actively participate as they did…shout orders."

Another round of chuckles erupted from the table as Cricket and Motthew bent over in laughter.

"I don't know why we're talking about this. It was the worst night of my life. I mean, the night wasn't so bad, but the next morning certainly was. They killed two people and left me to take the fall! Two people that I had just…been intimate with. It was a deliberate attack on me and my reputation! It's not funny! There's nothing between us, and there never will be! And I don't like that you're insinuating that there might be."

Siggy's voice was starting to warble as he was struggling to keep his emotions in check, and for a moment, his friends seemed to take in the gravity of the situation, with Cricket even putting his hand comfortingly on Siggy's shoulder.

"I know Siggy. What happened was no laughing matter. People dying isn't funny." Cricket looked down a moment, almost in shame, before raising his eyes again to Siggy, a small sparkle in them, "But…they're here now, again, and there's just a weird charged energy there. I think there's potential for you two."

Siggy was getting angry and his voice was rising as he began speaking, "Cricket, there's no potential there! Regicide Smith ruined my life. I have no interest in them. They are vile, and horrible, and I wouldn't touch them again with a ten foot pole!"

Motthew and Cricket's demeanor had changed noticeably as he finished his tirade and looked around the table at them. They were suddenly quiet, eyes wide, faces working hard not to betray any emotion. Sighing, already knowing in his heart what had caused this change in attitude, he turned around to see the golden-eyed elf standing behind him, one eyebrow arched, watching him intently.

"Are you gentlemen done discussing my sexual prowess? We've a monarchy to topple."
