Work Text:

"It really only gets good when the—OW!"

Abby lets out a yelp, shooting you a small glare over her shoulder as her short, messy braid whips around. The pads of her fingers brush along the weary spine of her book, something about a mystery case, to move her mind off of you picking off the little thorns that got into her jumper...and also her skin.

How she managed to do this, you don't know.

"Sorry, Abs. Remind me how this happened again?" You reply, not even fully sorry. Your tone in response to her glaring expression clearly showed your lack of remorse. You were both sat on your bed, Abby's legs crisscrossed with her back to you, her jumper pulled up to the back of her neck to expose the red dots down her spine.

The blonde scrunched her nose before turning her head back around to hide her embarrassed cheeks, ignoring your suppressed smile.

"Ugh... I slipped and fell into a rose bush. Okay? Anyway, so when the detective went into the fabric store.."

You let your hands work at gently plucking away the small thorns and pesky twigs that somehow collided with her freckled skin with a pair of tweezers that were wiped clean 2 times juuust to be safe, dabbing some water against her skin every time she let out a small "ow" in between her rant about her recent read.

"All done!" You eventually chirp, this was followed by the two freckled shoulders infront of you slumping with relief.

"Mm..Thank you...You're the best. You're gonna be an actual medic in no time."
Abby thanks you for your work, tugging the back of her wooly jumper back down and turning to face you with a smile. She leans her body forward to rub the slope of her nose against yours, which gets a giggle out of you.

"Hmm..Hopefully not soon, I still have a lot to learn.." You say thoughtfully, leaning back after the touch which makes your heart flutter.

"But you're amazing! I've seen you do those weird stitches and somehow keep people calm at the same time!"

"...You've been watching?"

Abby doesn't reply to that. Her cheeks going a little rosy before shrugging, putting her book on your bedside table. Your bedroom was quite small: your creaky twin bed taking up a chunk of the area. The plain, beige walls were covered with random posters or patterns you've done yourself. A few strings of fairy lights glow above the two of you.

You can only giggle at her blush as you pack away your first aid kid and shove it under your bed. Once that's done and the colour on her cheeks is gone, the two of you lie in your bed as usual. It was a little easier when you were younger, but now you were more squished, not like either of you minded. You were half on Abby, sort of climbing her as her arm wrapped around you. She glanced down at your cheek which squished against her shoulder and gently let out a huff against your hair. She smelled like the fresh outdoors and candles.

"Soo..did you like the book overall?" You ask softly, staring at the multi coloured fairy lights, careful to not ruin the now quiet moment.

"Eh.. yeah I guess.. would I read it again? No; a waste of my time."

"And this isn't a waste of your time? You could be training..."

Abby frowns softly at your comment, with a squeeze around your body, shaking her head to make her denial even stronger.

"No, this is crucial to my development."

Your lips let out an amused chuckle, you body trying to turn to face her more, to hear her closer, feel her closer. She smiles, despite her pounding heart, at your attempts and cuddles into you closer.

"This is nice...you're nice.." The blonde sighs, loosening in your touch. With a confirming hum, your hand strokes at wherever you can find, which is her tummy. She doesn't seem to mind.

After a bit of mindless stroking, you sit up, leaning over her to turn off the fairy lights since they bugged you from taking a nice nap agaisnt Abby. As you're leaning over to find the switch on the nightstand, Abby peers up at you, which makes you tilt your head down at her.

Something different clicks when Abby's gaze goes to your lips and back to your eyes in a panic. However, you're not like her, and she's quite obvious.

"...You want a kiss or what?"

"W-what? A kiss? Pfft! You're weird! I wouldn't.. unless you're up for it..". She mumbles the last part. Her hands hold your sides as you're now still holding yourself up over her.

"I wouldn't mind.. I kinda want to kiss you.." Abby is definitely surprised by your forwardness, but she wastes no time sitting up and holding your shoulders to steady you and possibly herself.

"Really? Like actually? Uh..I really, really like you—"

"Relax.. I like you too.." Your smile causes her shoulders to slump again, her eyes now sparkling with excitement and adoration. Before you can say anything to fill the current silence she licks her lips.

"Wait! What if I've over-licked them..ew wait.." Abby pulls away slightly to wipe her mouth with the back of her hand. This girl..

After your reassurance that you really wouldn't mind, you both lean in, unsure if how to part your lips or when to close your eyes so for a bit, you're both staring at eachother's lips as you inch closer. Typical.

When it does happen, it's soft and gentle, Your eyes luckily shut as your lips press once, before they do again, and again, before you're holding each other and pulling away giggling.

"That was.. cool." Abby manages to mumble as she chuckles, leaning in to press her nose against your rosy cheek. She chuckles more at your deadpan.

"Cool? Romance is dead."
