Work Text:
When Jim materialized on the transporter pad, he almost thought that he wouldn’t make it to see his ship again, to see Spock again. His knuckles on his left split and bleeding, his right far worse as he cradled it against his chest. The ringing in his ear had not yet ceased to dissipate as the ache from the broken ribs made his whole body feel heavier than what it was.
When his molecules rearranged themselves, he let out a small, half smile at the appearance of Spock before him, watching as the Vulcan all but sprinted up the platform and stopped just short of Jim’s person.
“You are injured.” Spock’s voice is barely above a whisper as Jim makes eye contact with the ensign at the controls, nudging his head towards the door and they take their leave with a soft smile on their face.
“Nothing Bones can’t fix.” Jim says when the door to the transporter room closes and its only the two of them left within its walls.
Spock’s hands crossed the space between them, his hands taking gentle hold of Jim's hands, bring them slowly up to his lips as he pressed a kiss to the know blooming bruise that marred the tanned flesh.
Jim gaze grew impossibly softer, his smile just a little wider, “That was a very human thing to do, Spock.” he couldn’t help but say.
“You are a very human man.” Spock replied, letting the hands fall from his lips as he lowered them to chest level, “It is what I love most about you.” He continued, and instead of responding, Jim leaned forward and kissed the very Vulcan man before him.
Spock hands held him gently, as if he was the most precious thing in the galaxy, and when it was Spock’s hands on him this way, he believed it with every fiber of his being. His long fingers easily found his meld points, skimming just above the surface of his subconscious, Jim’s pain fading away and a sense of peace filling him as Spock took his pain into his own.
When Spock pulled away, Jim gave him a small smile, “You didn’t have to do that, sweetheart.” He said, leaning his forehead against Spock’s.
“You are worth it, T’hy’la.” Spock replied, and Jim couldn’t help but kiss him again, his lips spreading into a wide grin as Spock reciprocated.
They were too engrossed in the other to notice the whisper of the door opening and the footsteps that had announced the arrival of a third party to their reunion.
That was, until a southern accent rang out, “Stop swapping spit and get down to my med bay.” Bones said as he crossed his arms, his eyebrows furrowed in disappointment as Jim couldn’t help but laugh at his best friend.
Spock replied, not bothering to turn around and face the subject of their interruption, “Your timing as always is impeccable, Doctor.”
“I think it’s more like you always know when to stall Jim so he doesn’t have to report to sick bay.” Bones retorted.
Jim let out a soft laugh, his good hand reaching up and cupping Spock’s cheek, “Thanks again, Spock.” He said, leaning in once more and kissing his Vulcan, his cheek cool to the touch of heated lips.
“You are welcome, My Jim.” Spock replied, wishing for nothing more than to turn his head and kiss Jim once more. Instead he let Jim pull away, brushing past him as he appraoched McCoy.
“Let’s get this over with, Bones.” He said, patting the doctor on the shoulder and then wincing in pain as he did so. McCoy grumbled something under his breath as he trailed after Jim into the corridor and Spock was left by his lonesome.
