Excerpt from an interview with Fhirdiad Knights goalie Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd
DIMITRI: Felix and I have been friends since childhood. Our fathers used to play together.
INTERVIEWER: Most people are aware of Lambert Blaiddyd. He was a legendary player.
DIMITRI: Yes. Rodrigue—Felix’s father—used to play on the same teams as my father when they were young—before he went pro. The two of them stayed in touch even when their paths diverged.
INTERVIEWER: You played with the Fraldarius brothers at Saint Cichol’s, isn’t that right?
DIMITRI: Yes. Quite a few players in the league went to Saint Cichol’s. Gautier, Ubert, Erebus…
INTERVIEWER: But by all accounts you and the younger Fraldarius brother were quite close, no? Some sources even claimed you were inseparable.
DIMITRI: Our families were—are connected. As I said.
INTERVIEWER: Yes, well. Your leave of absence last season—
DIMITRI: I’ve been cleared to play. You may ask my physician, if you must.
INTERVIEWER: I was actually going to ask about your recovery. Dr. Fraldarius—
DIMITRI: —Is not my doctor. His involvement in my recuperation was as a family friend only, not in a clinical capacity.
INTERVIEWER: But you were staying at the Fraldarius estate for your recovery, were you not?
DIMITRI: Our families are entwined, as I’ve said. Rodrigue is like a second father to me. Now if that’s all—
INTERVIEWER: Yes.

FELIX: No.

FELIX: Why would I be surprised? The only thing that idiot can do is hockey.

They were together in high school. My sister’s friend who went to Saint Cethleann’s says it was like a well known thing. Whenever Cethleann’s and Cichol’s would do joint activities the girls would flirt with them and get turned down. Someone asked Dimitri about it and he said he was seeing someone. Wasn’t hard to put 2 and 2 together from there.

They’re basically married. I know someone who has worked for the family for years and according to her they were broken up for most of their early careers but got together after Glenn was injured. Dimitri has been living with them on the off season for the past three years but the press didn’t know until he went on LTIR. They have a house together on the property or some shit. It’s like some fancy lakeside guest house but it’s actually theirs.

Excerpt from a news segment devoted to former hockey star Glenn Fraldarius who had a brief but impactful career
GLENN: I always knew I was on borrowed time. The accident—my leg wasn’t ever the same. I still wanted to play though.
NARRATOR: Fraldarius is of course referring to the tragic car accident that claimed the life of Lambert Blaiddyd and his wife Anselma Blaiddyd. Glenn and Blaiddyd’s son, the pro hockey player Dimitri Blaiddyd, were passengers in the vehicle. Glenn’s right leg was fractured in multiple places, while both boys—who were teenagers at the time—suffered from severe burns after a fire broke out.
GLENN: I created the Fraldarius Foundation with that mind. Sports should be for everyone. Doesn’t matter if you’re able-bodied or not. Kids especially—if you deny them the chance you’re taking away that critical time where playing is just… fun. If you never get that, why would you do sports as an adult?
GLENN: I got lucky. My dad specialized in the kind of rehabilitation that I needed, and we had these facilities already on our property that let me train with accommodations until I could recover. Not everyone gets that. I still get to play if I want to. I might be wearing a leg brace, but I still get to experience that joy of movement.
FELIX: Pass the puck, old man.
GLENN: No.
DIMITRI: Should’ve passed it.
GLENN: Are you saying Felix would have scored?

Are you together?

Do you worry about mixing the personal and the professional? Working with a partner isn’t for everyone, and in something as high-stakes as professional hockey, small disagreements can potentially cost a game.
Dimitri and I know how to leave all of that off the ice. I played while Glenn was in surgery. I played when Dimitri was—was sick. I played when teammates pissed me off. I know Dimitri’s done the same thing. Played through the anniversary of his father’s death. Played when—when other things were going on. Us—our relationship—is the least of our worries.

FELIX: We hooked up in high school.
GLENN: Okay, I knew that.
DIMITRI: But I’m not sure that was us together, exactly. We went to school dances with other people. We didn’t talk about what we were doing. And when we graduated and were drafted to different teams, keeping in touch became difficult.
GLENN: That wasn’t when you broke up though.
DIMITRI: No.
FELIX: He knows.
DIMITRI: I ended things when you were injured.
FELIX: He felt guilty. Because he’s an idiot.
GLENN: You already know how I feel about that. I’m just glad I got to play for the FHL at all.
DIMITRI: I know. I might not always believe it, but I know.
GLENN: So before I was injured, you were just hooking up sometimes?
DIMITRI: Something like that.
GLENN: When did you get back together? Pretend I don’t know the answer.
DIMITRI: I was sick. Last season—it had happened before. I usually can play through it—I do play through it—but there was a game against the Wolves… Felix got angry.
FELIX: I made him go to a—a doctor.
DIMITRI: A psychiatrist. It’s okay—I don’t mind saying it. My medication was no longer working as it should. Finding a new one, the adjustment period—it ate up the rest of the season. I wasn’t happy. But then the Wolves failed in the playoffs and Felix came home and we were spending time together again—
FELIX: That’s enough.
GLENN: Then you kissed and lived and happily ever after.
DIMITRI: Yes.
GLENN: If you’re listening and not watching right now, you’re missing out on the most heinous death glare from my younger brother. Hey! He just hit me.
FELIX: You deserved it.
DIMITRI: [Chuckles]
GLENN: I should’ve known you’d be on his side.
FELIX: He’s my fiancé.
GLENN: And my best friend.
FELIX: That’s Dedue.
GLENN: Whatever. You can have more than one best friend.
DIMITRI: You’re all very dear to me.
GLENN: Yet you sit there and laugh when your rabid fiancé attacks me. Dimitri just shrugged for those of you who are just listening.
DIMITRI: I can’t help my amusement. Felix is the most adorable person in the world.
GLENN: Ugh. Alright, let’s go back to talking about hockey.
