Summary
The sun has been setting earlier and earlier by the day, swallowing the world in darkness. But in its final flare today, it lights this man, the snow around him warmed to amber, just a whiskey slush at his feet as he wades through it.
The man himself is lit by this light so magnificent it's nearly holy—the way a painter captures sun screaming through stained glass, or pooling beyond lace-curtained windows, or refracting off a crystalline object. His hair, peeking honey-colored and curled from beneath a woolen hat, catches that light more beautifully than, perhaps, anything else Peter has ever seen.
It's winter 2005, and Peter Pettigrew just wants something new to happen. That's not too much to ask for, right?
