Work Text:
Megumi looked down at the paper below him. Two clear signatures on it. One reading Fushiguro Megumi and the other reading Gojo Satoru.
That made it complete; he was officially divorced.
–
Megumi and Gojo had a picture perfect life. Madly in love, married, house, a son and even 2 dogs. Then it all went up in flames, more fights started happening, Gojo doing overtime in the office, he had more business meetings, business dinners. Megumi spent more time in the clinic. More fights started to happen when their son wasn't home and when their son was home, it was quiet. They both had a rule not to fight in front of Akito. So instead of fighting they were quiet, taking extra interest in his activities.
Akito also noticed how his parents were less lovey dovey than before, he was raised witnessing his father obsessed over his papa and while his papa was quiet, he would always look at his dad with love. He noticed how different they were now.
Weeks went on this way, quiet nights and loud and passive aggressive days. Fights would pop out of thin air, the most mundane things would become a cause for arguments, until Megumi said those dreadful words.
“Should we get a divorce?”
The words seemed to have even shocked him.
Satoru stood there, eyes wide, ears ringing, completely stunned in place, truly trying to register if he really heard Megumi say those words.
Divorce. Did he really say divorce?
Satoru knew the last couple of months had been rough. He knew he was staying out longer, entertaining business execs more often. But he was the CEO, he needed to do it. Sure he enjoyed the attention here and there, he was married but once in a while he liked to know he was still charming and handsome to others. And well Megumi hadn't been paying too much attention to him lately. He was off at the clinic, he knew he had to, he was the top vet there but if he wasn't with the animals he was all over Akito. Satoru just… missed him. But Megumi had just brought up divorce. Something so finite, so serious. Megumi was never one to throw words like that so casually. He was straightforward and didn't hold back, he would always call Satoru out on his bs, that's what he loved about him so much.
Had he wanted this for a while now?
Satoru was never one to deny Megumi anything. And Megumi was never one to throw careless words around, so why else would he say this if he did not mean it. It gutted Gojo to think that Megumi no longer wanted to be with him but Satoru would never deny him anything.
So he agreed.
–
Satoru had officially moved out of their shared home, letting Megumi keep the house. He moved into what he deemed as his “bachelor pad”. While they were planning on doing 50/50 custody they had both agreed to keep the “family home” as Akito’s primary house, to make things easier on him. Even with the divorce happening the both agreed to always do what was best for Akito. Which is why they made a rule that if either of them ever got serious with anyone else they would first introduce them to each other to make sure they were appropriate for Akito.
–
Akito loved soccer. He was one of the best in the league, sure it was little league but he was still told by their coach that he was a top player and both parents still felt an overwhelming pride about it. Akito had soccer games every Sunday evening, a place that also served as a neutral ground for drop offs and pick ups. Also, the only place that Megumi and Satoru would see each other since Satoru had moved out.
It was Sunday evening Megumi was wearing a short sleeve with some casual slacks. Nothing out of the ordinary for Akito's soccer practice match. It was his day to get Akito back, and while Megumi has enjoyed the peace of having some alone time he does miss Akito dearly and gets lonely without him. He also found he enjoyed walking the dogs with Akito rather than walking both by himself.
“Papa!”
Megumi hears a yell and a small smile creeps on his face as he sees his white haired boy. He is an exact copy of Satoru, white hair, blue eyes, sharp features, and even his explosive personality, but was also much calmer and behaved than Satoru. Which Megumi believes he gets from him.
“Akito” Megumi responds while opening his arms to give his son a hug.
Behind him was another head of white hair, Satoru walked up to him carrying Akito's soccer bag.
“Yo Megumi!”
Megumi waves at him. It's been around a year since the separation. They’re cordial, talk about what they have going on in their lives in order to keep each other in the loop, after all they are co-parenting.
“Akito, it's time for you to go do warm ups. Go join the team.” Gojo says, as he’s handing Akito his waterbottle.
“Ok dad”
Both parents look at the retreating form of their son as he goes towards the circle of his team.
“So… how was your week?”
“Fine. Did some over time at the clinic since Akito wasn't home. The house is really quiet when he’s not there. But I did enjoy the time I had to wind down.” Megumi responds recalling the overnight check ins for the dog he did a surgery on. “How was your week with him?”
“Fun! We saw the new Worm Man movie, he didn't like it as much as the last one. Also, I don't understand how you say the house is loud with him, he’s so calm with me.”
“Everyone’s calm compared to you.” Megumi huffs.
Gojo rubs the back of his neck, “So, I wanted to talk to you about something.”
“Hm?”
“Ive been seeing someone and I think it's getting serious enough to introduce them to Akito.”
Megumi wanted to roll his eyes. Who was it this time? Just 2 months ago he was introduced to a petite blonde and before her he was introduced to some cute honey brown brunette. He knew Satoru was dating around. He unfortunately knew that he wasted no time and as soon as was divorced he was taking someone else back to his place. That's where the rule of introducing each other to the new party was made. Megumi didn't want so many randoms just meeting Akito. The first time he saw it, he couldn't deny that it hurt… it hurt like hell. But Megumi wanted to be an adult about it, they were divorced, he had no right to say anything about Satoru's dating life.
“Sure. When?” He tried to sound as nonchalant as possible.
For a second he thought he saw the look of disappointment in Gojo's eyes, but in a second it was gone. Megumi didn't want to admit that it may be wishful thinking.
“Tonight if possible? I can have Suguru or Shoko look after Akito while we have dinner.”
“That's… quite soon?” Megumi said with a surprised face looking at Gojo.
“I know, but I really feel it with this person, so I want your approval as soon as possible.” Satoru said while smiling.
Megumi didn't want to seem bitter. He knew bringing up that he had just introduced him to someone new not too long ago that Satoru was “so sure he had a connection” would start a fight or make him seem like the jealous ex. He just wanted the co-parenting to go smoothly. He directed his gaze to the field, the game had started and Akito was on the field, he sighed, “Sure.”
–
Dinner went well. This time it was a cute redhead, slim and short. It seemed like Satoru had a type. Besides the notable PDA it was bearable and the person seemed nice, said they liked kids. Megumi still believed it was too soon for them to meet Akito, but if Satoru said it was serious, then he'd trust him.
Satoru dropped his date off first that way Megumi could go pick up Akito.
“So what did you think of them?”
“They were nice, seemed normal, or as normal as you can be to date you.”
"Doesn't that mean that you're weird too for having married me.”
“Yea, but it clearly wore off.” Megumi said while looking at his phone. He glanced at Satoru and saw a change in his eyes. Maybe that was too far. He has never once regretted marrying Satoru, even after everything.
“It did, didn't it.” Satoru said in a quiet voice. The rest of the drive was done in silence.
–
Sunday came around once again. Akito had another practice match and was about to go to Satorus for the week. Megumi couldn't help but think if Satoru would introduce the redhead to Akito this week with him. Or even tonight, with how fast Satoru introduced them to him.
Satoru showed up a little later than usual, the game had already started, he usually shows up a bit early to talk with Akito. He walked to the field while on the phone, there was probably a work problem that he was dealing with.
Satoru strolls up to him, putting his phone away. “Megumi! How are you?”
“Good. You seem busy. If you couldn't come, you could have told me, I would have taken Akito to your place after the game.”
“What! No, I always love seeing Akito on the field. Or are you just trying to get rid of me?” Satoru laughs.
“You're more than welcome to always come, you're his father, but I understand if you need a bit of extra time whether it's work or your new partner.”
Gojo's expression went into something unreadable, his usual smirk off his face, “You're ok with me spending extra time with a partner over Akito?”
“No. I feel we should both always put Akito first but if once in a while you want a bit of extra time. I can try my best to be accommodating and help out.” Megumi said while looking at the field, face neutral.
Gojo scoffed, “Yea, thanks for the heads up Megumi.” A smile that didn't reach his eyes went on his face, “You're so agreeable now, thank you. It's a great thing we divorced.”
Just as those words came out, Satoru regretted saying them as he saw the look of hurt on Megumi. It quickly went back to neutral, but Satoru knew.
They passed the rest of the game in silence. Once it was over Megumi gave a hug to Akito and told him to behave. Simply waving to Satoru saying he'll see him next week. It felt like he just wanted to quickly evacuate.
Satoru doesn't know why he said that. There was no reason. Work has seriously gotten him stressed, he's been completely stretched thin. And then there's also his new relationship that keeps messaging him on when they will meet again when he's been swamped. All this for Megumi saying that he’ll look after Akito when he's on a date. Something about how nonchalant Megumi was set him off. How could Megumi not care?
What type of reaction was he looking for?
He took Akito home, they would play video games that night to take his mind off everything.
–
Megumi didn't know why he felt like crying. It had been a little over a year since they divorced. He had seen the signatures on the paper, he had seen Gojo date others. Gojo had clearly moved on. Their marriage was over… yet why did this feel like the nail in the coffin. Like Satoru saying that he was happy to be divorced from Megumi was the true decisor in their marriage being over.
Had he thought they would get back together?
Satoru was always the one to soothe things over. Always the one to give the first apology. Maybe he was tired of being the only one to give in. Maybe he wanted an apology once in a while and Megumi had been too proud to give it. He was just used to Satoru being the one to give in. Maybe that's why this annoyed him so much, because now Megumi was being accommodating yet he couldn't have done that during their marriage. And now it was over, their relationship was over. The only connection was Akito. That note made him feel a sort of despair he couldn't put into words.
–
The week had blown by. Satoru being swamped with work, having Akito, who he felt guilty about since he spent a good amount of time with the nanny, and his now ended relationship. He thought he had something with this new person but when Satoru was actually busy they “knew where they land on his priority list” and decided on making an ultimatum, let them meet Akito so they could see each other or they clearly weren't important. Sautro, being busy and not having the best tact told them to stop being ridiculous. So that was over.
Truth was he never had introduced anyone to Akito, even after getting Megumis approval it still never felt right, and due to that hesitance, the relationship ended soon after. This turned out to be another statistic.
After all this he thought best to hold off on dating. Also, he would apologize to Megumi for what he said the week before. Satoru never wanted to give Megumi the impression that he thought their marriage as a mistake, but he knew what his words sounded like. He didn't want any bad blood between them… for the sake of Akito.
As he came on the field Megumi was already standing by the field waiting for them. The sun hitting him just right, it almost looked like he was glowi…
“Papa!” Akito's voice brought him out of his thoughts. Right they were there for Akito's game and to swap him for the week. That's it. Satoru knows that logically, but when he sees Megumi direct a smile to Akito he can't help but longing for that smile to be for him too. He can't remember the last time Megumi genuinely smiled at him.
“Megumi. Hi.”
Megumi looked at him and nodded “Satoru”
“Papa, Dad was too busy this week. I was mainly with Nina-chan the entire time.” Akito said while pointing at Satoru. That brat! Satoru thought, ratting him out like that.
“Dad is a busy guy remember, he tries to finish up all his work before your week, but sometimes there's so much that he can't. We have to be understanding, like when I'm with the animals a lot.”
“Hmph” Megumi ruffled Akito's head, “I’m sure he'll make time for you next week. Aren't you excited to spend the week with me?”
“Yeah!”
“Im glad, but first you have to play this match. Go, seems that your teammates are already warming up.” Megumi points at the row of children doing stretches.
As they both look at Akito running towards the team, Satoru starts, “Thank you. It's a busy time right now, and I couldn't get away from work much. I did try my best to spend time with him.”
Megumi put both hands up, as to show peace, “It's ok. I know you're busy. Like I said, if you need me to take him more often that's fine. I can help. Remember we're a team for Akito.”
“Right. For Akito.” Satoru felt relieved but that statement felt bittersweet on his tongue. He would do anything for Akito, but it made him feel a certain way that Megumi only wanted him for Akito. But he understood that what he could do best for Megumi right now is simply be the best dad for their son. “By the way, even if I would ask you to keep him some weeks, I love the time we spend together. Over anyone. It's just a new contract came by and internally it's been a nightmare.
Megumi smiled, “I don't doubt that you love the time you spend together, but I won't hold it against you if you need me to keep him for an extra week. Just don't forget about him.” A pointed look directed to Satoru.
Gojo huffed, “Never!”
–
Weeks had gone by without incident. Satoru did in fact take a break from dating, he genuinely had no time between work and Akito. Megumi and Satoru had remained cordial throughout the time. Hell, they even seemed friendlier. Akito was happy. All seemed well. Satoru then noticed that Megumi seemed happier. Like staring at his phone a lot more, messaging on it more than usual, checking on it all the time and smiling…
“What's so funny?” Satoru slid up next to Megumi trying to look over his phone.
Megumi shoves him away. “It's nothing.”
"Doesn't seem like nothing if you're smiling all the time. Was it Yuji?”
“It's…” Megumi said, looking away, holding his phone close. “It's someone new. I started seeing someone actually.” A light blush adorning his cheeks.
“Oh.” Satoru didn't know what to say, how to feel. Megumi was seeing someone. Someone who made him smile, made him laugh, made him blush. He couldn't help but clench his fist.
“It's still very new, nowhere near introducing him to Akito, so don't worry. We're taking things slow, just seeing how it all goes.” Megumi reassured Satoru.
“Who is he? How did you two meet?” Satoru tried very hard to keep his voice light.
“His name is Kamo Noritoshi. We met through one of the other vets at work, apparently they're good friends. We met a while ago, but only started to get to know each other for the last month. He's a really kind, mild mannered guy. I'm actually excited to see how this goes. He treats me really well so far and is fine with taking things slow.”
Satoru hated the wistful way that Megumi spoke about this guy. How his voice got light and sweet. How there was a small redness on his cheek when speaking of him. He hated how this random guy was making Megumi react this way. But he knew he had no right to say anything, no right to say that the guy sounded boring and that he probably just wore Megumi down for a date. He especially couldn't say that this was too fast considering his track record. Yet, it did feel too fast, he knew he was a hypocrite for feeling this way, but he couldn't help but hate this.
Hated the idea of Megumi becoming someone else's.
But this was just a fling right. Megumi was married to him for years, this guy sounds nothing like him. Which means he's not Megumi’s type. This is all just a fling, Megumi is simply getting some attention but soon he’ll get bored and break off whatever's going on between them. Not like Satoru is banking on them getting back together, just doesn't want Megumi to drag on something that may hurt him and in turn hurt Akito. That's all.
Yep, this will be over soon.
–
“Satoru, would you be available to have dinner next Saturday? I want to introduce you to Noritoshi”
It was not something that Satoru should have thought of as a fling, it had been 9 months since Megumi told him he had been seeing this Noritoshi guy and now Megumi was asking him this. Megumi never told him a lot of this relationship, but he would see the smiles Megumi would throw at his phone on the field, or when they did the occasional home drop off. But Satoru soothed himself with the thought that Megumi wasn't singing praises of this guy or even asking him to meet him. He thought that this guy would just fade away, but now they were here. Being asked if he could meet his boyfriend so that the next step in their relationship could move forward, meeting Akito.
“Wow! You guys are already on that stage?”
“Well it's been 10 months together at this point and Noritoshi has been asking when he’ll meet Akito since it's getting serious.”
Serious. It's serious. Megumi is in a serious relationship with someone else.
Satoru knew he had no leg to stand on. Introducing his partners to Megumi 1 - 2 months after meeting them. Is this how Megumi felt when Satoru would introduce someone to him? Like he was dying inside. He never showed it.
“Who's going to look after Akito?” He was trying anything to push this meeting away.
“I already arranged it with Nobara and Yuji to look after him for the evening. So there's no need to worry.” Megumi kept looking expectantly.
So everything was figured out huh? “Ok, sure.” Satoru's smile didn't reach his eyes.
“Great. It will be at the house at 7.” Megumi said as he was heading out. “Ill text you if anything else comes up.”
“Dad, did Papa just leave?” Akito's voice rang. He hadn't realized that he was just staring at a closed door.
“Oh, yea buddy, sorry. We were just talking about something.”
“As long as you guys aren't fighting” Akito said walking to the living room.
No it wasn't a fight, they're not together anymore, there's no more fighting.
–
Saturday came and Gojo was over it. Great, he had to have a boring dinner with two people who have the opposite definition of fun as him. But he could do small talk. He just needed to get through a few hours and this guy will probably fumble over himself when he sees who Megumi's ex-husband is in the flesh. May even realize that Megumi is better off with someone else.
Satoru was dressed in a fitted dark blue button up, beige slacks that showed off his ass and black coat over it all. It was late so no need for sunglasses and he was drenched in cologne. (If that cologne happened to be one of Megumi's favorites, no one can prove that he did it on purpose) He knew he looked good, not for any reason other than he always looks good. He knocks on the door, bottle of wine in hand; Satoru has manners, he doesn't show up empty handed.
Megumi was of course who opened up the door, wearing a nice olive green sweater that brings out his eyes and black slacks, he looked comfortable, cute. “Satoru, come in.” Megumi extended his arm, motioning for Gojo to come in.
He took off his shoes and looked up and saw a man with long black hair, perfect posture standing completely straight, a sharp jaw but shorter than him. Megumi definitely downgraded.
Megumi started the introductions, “Satoru this is Kamo Noritoshi, Noritoshi this is Akito's father Gojo Satoru.”
Satoru plastered on a smile and reached out for a hand shake, Kamo took his hand giving a firm hand shake. “Pleasure to meet you Kamo-san, I'm excited to get to know you, especially since Megumi doesn't bring you up often.”
He knew what he just said was slightly petty but it's true, so is he really not able to bring it up.
“Pleasure to meet you Gojo-san, you seem to be just like Megumi described you.” Kamo ended with a polite smile of his own.
“Oh so Megumi does talk about me.”
“I try not to, but I have to let Noritoshi know why I'm annoyed at times.” Megumi sighed. “Please come and sit, dinner just finished before you came.”
“I'll help set the table.” Satoru moved to where the plates are stored to help set them down.
“Satoru, it's fine. Thank you for the help but Noritoshi already helped set before you got here.” Megumi motions towards the table.
There's a sort of dejection that Satoru feels as he realises that he is not needed here for anything other than truly meeting this man. There were small mundane things that he didn't realise he still had as muscle memory with Megumi. Megumi would cook, Satoru set the table and then Akito helped dry the plates after. That wasn't his life anymore.
Dinner went fine but Satoru couldn't help to think that this guy was so boring. Liked calligraphy and textiles. Wore monotone colors, his plain clothes showing that. Completely well mannered and polite vocabulary. Worked for his fathers firm, as he would take over one day. So rigid, completely stuck on rules and looks. He was the complete opposite of Satoru, and that made him dislike Noritoshi all the more.
Megumi went for someone complete opposite of him.
If he had been similar, Satoru could delude himself into believing that he was just getting a copy of him. A replica but never the original. But that wasn't it, this was a completely different person from him, someone Megumi can tell the difference with rather than reminisce on their old relationship.
Megumi didn't want Satoru.
–
Dinner came to an end. Satoru said his goodbyes to Kamo and then turned to Megumi. “Let me walk you out.” Megumi led him to the door.
They were both outside, Megumi having closed the door. “What do you think of him?” Megumi looked at him expectantly.
Satoru wanted to say that this guy wasn't a good man. That he would corrupt Akito and be an unfit partner to Megumi. That he was wrong for Megumi. But he couldn't. This was clearly a very respectful man, well mannered, has a good career, seems to only be a benefit to be around. Worst of all he clearly loved Megumi, he saw the way he looked at Megumi, eyes tender, the smiles thrown his way, the little inside jokes they had. And Megumi cared for him as well. He couldn't admit that maybe Megumi loved him too, that would break him. So when he looked at Megumi's expecting face all he could say was, ”He seems like a great guy Megumi, someone who seems like a great influence on Aktio.” He gave a tight smile, “I approve” he said, trying his best to keep the strain out of his voice.
After the words left Satoru's mouth Megumi gave him a smile. A beautiful genuine smile, the ones that crinkled his eyes and made them shine all the same. A smile that hadn't been directed at him for a while, and the first time he gets it after so long is when he approves of his new partner, his new person. He wanted to throw up.
He said his goodbye to Megumi.
–
Suguru hears his phone ring and sees Satoru's name show on the screen. “Hey Satoru.”
“Yo Suguru!” He hears Satoru's slurred words on the other side of the phone. “What are you doing to-night? Come over! I opened that go-od Scottish whiskey we once stole from my dadz cabinet.”
Suguru knew that Satoru barely drank, usually socially and mainly with clients. Him drinking alone was always a red flag, something happened. “I’m on my way, I'll bring Shoko too.”
“Wooo party! Come soon!”
Suguru hung up. Instantly making another call as he went to put his shoes on.
–
Once Suguru and Shoko arrive at Satoru's house they instantly get hit with the smell of liquor and the sight of Satoru slumped against the couch sipping the whisky straight from the bottle.
Shoko went to his side and took the bottle away from his hands as Suguru had gone to the kitchen to get Satoru a glass of water.
“What happened Satoru?” Suguru asked as he handed over the glass of water.
What’s with those looks on your faces?” Satoru titled his face looking at both of his friends "Nothing's wro-ng!” Satoru exclames as he tries to reach for the bottle. Shoko makes sure to keep it away, luckily Satorus too drunk to actually take it away. “Everythings great! How couldn’t it be, I got another contract signed. My son is one of the top soccer players on his team. I'm a good looking, RICH bachelor. And Megumi… Megumi found a nice guy” Satoru lowers his head as he ends.
His friends understood instantly.
“Megumi found this lawyer guy, so uptight, way too polite. You can tell he doesn't know the meaning of the word fun. He still likes calligraphy damn it, how exciting can he be?” There's a pause before he continues, tears begin to appear on his face, “But Megumi likes him. He's nothing like me, Megumi's completely done with me. He found someone new too love”
“Satoru…” Suguru began in a calming voice.
“This is all my fault. Why didn't I fight the divorce? Make Megumi see that we were still worth fighting for.” Satoru's tears were fully flowing down his face now.
“Weren’t you the one who threw the divorce party when it was official?” Shoko tried to lighten the mood.
“That was just for my ego. I wanted Megumi to see what he was missing, to want me. I was hoping he wouldn't let me go so easily. I never wanted to hold him hostage either.” Satoru went from solemn to angry, “But now that bastard gets to have my life. Gets to go to MY home as he pleases, gets to be another father to MY son and gets to have MY Megumi every day!” Tears still streaming down his face as Satoru shouts. “He gets to have MY life!”
Both friends look at their friend in worry, just trying to comfort him.
“Satoru, you know Megumi isn't one to just throw you away right? He will always care about you in some way, if he didnt you guys wouldnt be even be cordial on the soccer field.” Shoko soothed as she rubbed Satorus back.
“Listen Satoru, unfortunately you realised this a bit late, but there's still a way for you to show that you care about Megumi.” Suguru looked at Satoru, “Be the best dad to Akito you can be. Show you can still nurture and adore that part of Megumi.”
Satoru rubbed his eyes as he reached for the glass of water. He put his head on Suguru's shoulder and basked in the warmth as Shoko ruffled his hair. Just taking in the soothing from his friends.
–
It was another Sunday on the field. Satoru was waiting on the field for Megumi and Akito, looking down at his phone when he hears a, “Dad!” in the distance.
Satoru snaps his head up and takes Akito in his arms. “Hey buddy! How are you? How was your week?”
“Good! I kicked Papa’s butt playing Smash Brothers and then got ice cream when I won. I also got to see Papa at work with the animals” Akito said with a wide smile on his face.
“Sounds like a fun week.” Satoru then turned to Megumi, “You spoiled him, that doesn't come often from you.”
“He was good this week. His grades came in and got excellent marks, why not celebrate.” Megumi shrugged.
“Right, I saw them too and we can keep the celebration going when you come with me.”
“Yes!” Akito shouted.
“First you have to play your match, and if you win you can get double dessert.” Satoru ended with a mischievous smile.
Akito ran to the field with a wide smile, anticipating the sweets he would get later.
“I agree he should get a prize, but not too much sweets.” Megumi looked at Satoru pointedly.
“I know how far to take things with him too. But when you have a kid as great as him, it's hard not too you know.”
“Hmm” Megumi agreed. “How are you? More overtime at the company? You look a bit tired.” Megumi said as he reached Satoru's face about to touch his dark circles. Satoru let him, but Megumi's hand was gone just as quick.
“Oh yea. We landed a new contract but that now means we have to work on it. So a bit of overtime has been happening.”
“Just make sure you get some sleep.”
“Yes, mom” Satoru laughed.
“So now that you have my approval, will Akito meet Kamo-san soon?” Satoru tried his best to sound as nonchalant as possible.
“Soon, yes. We're planning things out, will probably be something other than just dinner, maybe a small outing as well. Something so they can spend time together but I could also cut it short if Akito feels uncomfortable at any point.”
Megumi really was a great father, always having Akito at the top of his mind, always thinking of what would be best for him. He wouldn't flimsily introduce anyone to their son, only someone he was serious about. It left a bitter taste in his mouth. But in the end Suguru was right, the last thing he could do for Megumi is be the best dad for Akito. “Looks like you got another planner.”
“Hes a lawyer, so he's always on some kind of schedule.” Megumi said smiling, "I'm glad you liked him. He's a good guy.”
“Yea a good guy.” Satoru ended with a smile, yet there was sadness in his eyes..
–
Megumi had Kamo over for dinner at his home since Akito was gone, spending time together but also planning the last details of his meeting with the boy.
“Dinner was delicious. Thank you Megumi-san”
“Noritoshi, you're about to meet my son, you can drop the san. I think we're past those formalities.” Megumi took the empty plate to the sink.
“He’s your son so I'm sure he's mannered. I would like him to use formalities with me at first since he’s just met me. Best to lead my example.”
To Megumi these were the times that really showed the difference between Kamo and Satoru. It's clear that Kamo wants some type of boundaries in place between Akito and himself, it slightly annoyed him, but he understood he was barely going to meet Akito and he wasn't planning on having Kamo play dad to Akito, Akito had a dad. Megumi reminded himself that this was all new to everyone and unknown feelings would rise, probably to everyone. “I guess you're right. But one day you guys will get closer and both can be without honorifics.” Megumi said with a smile.
“Well yes, it would be strange if we had a child together and I referred to him with honorifics and not our child.” Kamo said offhandedly.
Megumi froze. He didn't really know how to react to that statement. Another child. A different life, one that didn't include Satoru at all. Logistically he knew that he had somewhat tasted a bit of a life without Satoru, almost 2 years. But this would be completely different, he always had to have contact with Satoru due to Akito, but a new child with someone else. That would absolutely end an old life and start a new one for him. But that's why Megumi was here, to start a new life.
“Theres a guest room that could turn into an additional nursery if we were to have a child, I'm not sure I would want more than 2.” Megumi continued to wash the dishes.
Kamo stared at the back of Megumi, “Megumi. If I were to ask you to marry me do you think I would move into this house?”
This made Megumi turn around. Kamo wouldn't move into this home, but this was Akito's home. He was just a bathroom away from the master bedroom. He remembers changing the crib, to a race car bed to his now queen bed. The living room is where he displayed his first soccer trophy. He knew every inch of this house just like Megumi. This was Akito's home. This was Megumi's home.
“I guess I never thought of that?” Megumi continued to look at Kamo. “Is it the distance from your work or family? The house is in a good neighborhood, It's pretty big too-”
“I don't want to live in a house that is still technically your ex’s.” Kamo cut Megumi off.
Megumi made a confused face at that comment, “Satoru has no ownership of this home. He would never fight me on anything that goes on here.”
“Thats not what I mean. Megumi, it's obvious to me that this is still the family home. Not just Akito-kun's home, the family home, that includes Gojo-san.” Kamo looked at Megumi seriously, “When he came over it was obvious that he still knew where everything was. The way he went straight to where the dishes where. He knew exactly where the bottle opener was, the way he made comments through dinner that made it seem as if he was reminiscing when he still lived here. It seems you haven't changed anything in the house from when you divorced if he still knows where everything is.”
Megumi went wide-eyed, had Satoru made comments like that through dinner? He didn't notice. “Thats just because it's what easiest for Akito that-”
“You keep saying that's what's easiest for Akito-kun but at times it feels that you're still holding on to that old life.”
“I'm not Noritoshi! Me and him are divorced, we have our own lives. I'm with YOU.” Megumi emphasized the last sentence. “We will always have to be in each other's lives because of Akito, you know this. I told you this from the beginning.”
Megumi felt this was unfair. Yes he had a history that some would consider baggage, that's part of the reason he didn't really date. He and Satoru were together for years, they had a kid! Of course he was always going to be a part of his life.
“I understand that, but if me and you marry. If I become Akito-kun's step-dad and we become a family, new boundaries would have to be set for this to work. This is not me saying to completely disregard Gojo-san, I understand he's Akito-kun’s father, but there would be changes overall, would you not agree?”
Megumi didn't know how to take this, he knew to a degree Noritoshi was right. There would be changes, the relationship would change more than it already has. New boundaries would be placed. Yet why couldn't he bring himself to accept that.
“Megumi.” Kamo put his hand over Megumis, “If I were to ask you to marry me, to start a life with me; would you leave this house?”
–
“Hey boys, have you guys heard the news?” Shoko walks into Satoru’s home with a shit eating smile, looking at both Satoru and Suguru..
Both men looked at her puzzled. Suguru lifted his eyebrow, motioning for her to continue.
“Megumi broke up with that Kamo guy.” She finished with a smile directed at Satoru.
Both men wide eyed. Suguru turned to Satoru smiling, Satoru was still looking at Shoko, registering what she just said. It had been around a month since Satoru met Kamo and gave his approval. He knew Megumi hadn't introduced Kamo to Akito, he had just assumed that they were preparing for it. But now he got this news.
“H-how do you know?”
“Utahime is good friends with Mai, who as you know is related to Maki, who heard it directly from Nobara. Gossip makes its way around.”
“Megumis single,” Satoru said, almost a whisper.
“Yup and apparently it's kind of due to a certain something or someone.” Shoko kept directing her gaze at Satoru.
“What do you-” Shoko cut Satoru off. “From what I heard, Kamo had asked Megumi what would happen if he asked him to marry him.”
That stopped Satoru, marriage, were they really having those talks?
“One of the things mentioned was the house, apparently Kamo wanted Megumi to sell the house and they both could buy a new house to accommodate them. Megumi said he wouldn't leave the house.”
Satoru was drinking in every word. The house was the breaking point, but why? He doesn't live there anymore, unless it's related to Akito he's no longer there.
Suguru grabbed Satoru's shoulders, smiling at him. “Satoru, do you know what that means?”
He honestly didn't, he was still trying to wrap his head around the fact that the house was the breaking point.
Satoru shook his head, “It means that Megumi isn't able to let go of the past, your past. He still can't let go of his old life with you!” Satoru continued to look at Suguru with wide eyes, “He still has feelings for you, you idiot!”
It finally hit him, “OH MY GOD! Megumi still likes me?!?!” He was looking at both of his friends, “And I'm single and now Megumis single? This is my shot, I need to win him back. I need to send some flowers. Peonies, those are his favorite. Get some imported ginger tea and candy. Then-”
“Satoru!” Suguru stopped Satoru's rambling, “This may be your last shot, use it well. Don't just go and do whatever you think is best. You know Megumi, think about what he would want.”
This gave him a pause. Suguru was right, this is about Megumi. He needs to play his cards right, he can't mess this up.
–
Sunday came around. Another match for Akito. Satoru was already at the field waiting for Megumi and Akito. He was a little nervous to see Megumi this time around as it would be the first time that he sees him after finding out about the break up. He didn't know if Megumi would tell him or not and he knew he couldn't bring it up, technically he wasn't supposed to know.
To his side he sees Megumi and Akito walking closer. He smiled brightly at both of them. (And if he was dressed up a little and wearing Megumi's favorite cologne, no one could prove anything.)
“Akito” Satoru waved.
“Hey Dad!” Akito screamed back.
Satoru hugged Akito and ruffled his hair. “How was your week?”
“Good! Me and Papa had a couple of movie nights, we ate pizza last night, we even had an ice-cream night!”
Megumi's face turned a little red at Akito's admittance. Satoru looked at Megumi then back to Akito, “Oh, sounds like Papa really spoiled you this week. Good thing you have a game to work all that junk off.”
Akito huffed in annoyance at his dad.
“They’re starting warm ups, Gotta go!” Akito waved at his parents.
“Hey! How are you?” Satoru smiled at Megumi.
“Uhh, fine I guess.” Megumi paused thinking about his next words, looking down and then looking back at Satoru. “Umm me and Noritoshi broke up.”
“Oh, is that so?” Satoru said, trying to sound surprised and not elated. “That explains the junk food.” Saturo tried to lighten the mood. “What happened?... If you don't mind me asking of course.”
“We were getting ready to have him meet Akito and… we started to talk more and more about the future, what our future would look like.” That gave Satoru a pause; their future, they were really serious huh?
“During the conversation we realized we didn't have a similar version of the future and decided we were actually incompatible. So it was best to end it before either of us would get more hurt.”
“So it did hurt?”
Megumi looked down, “We were together for 10 months, he was about to meet my son, so yea I liked him a lot. Kinda sucks. But I'll be fine. Don't worry, I won't let it affect Akito.”
“I know you won't. But I am worried about you.” Satoru looked at Megumi sincerely. “If you need anything let me know, ok?”
“Thank you Satoru.” Megumi gave Satoru a small smile.
They made small talk throughout the game until it was time for Satoru to take Akito.
“See you boys next week.”
“Bye Papa!
“See you Megumi.” Satoru gave Megumi a bright smile.
–
“Yo Megumi!”
“Papa!”
Megumi heard 2 loud voices that brought a smile to his face. “Hi, nice seeing you. I missed you.”
“You facetimed him yesterday.” Satoru points out.
Megumi looks up to him, "It's not the same.”
Akito goes to play his match as Satoru and Megumi chat on the field. Akito's team wins. Once the teams high five each other, Akito returns back to his parents.
“Great job Akito!” Megumi looks at him brightly.
“Always on your A-game!” Satoru high fives him.
“Thanks.”
“How about to celebrate, I'll take you to ice-cream?”
“Huh?” Megumi questions.
“Yesss!” Akito screams.
Megumi looks at Akito's delighted face. “Do you want me to meet you after?” Megumi says as he looks at Satoru.
“What are you talking about, come along. It's on me.”
“Yea come along Papa!”
Megumi couldn't really say no, he got pistachio from the nearby ice-cream parlor. Akito got chocolate and Satoru got multiple scoops of different flavors.
–
Once home it was just Megumi and Akito. Megumi was asking Akito to unload his gym bag so he could go ahead and wash the sweaty contents.
“Papa?”
“Yes Akito?”
“Will we do more outings like today with Dad?”
“Huh, umm maybe. Why?”
“It was fun. It's fun going out with Papa and Dad.”
Megumi didn't know why that comment made him feel a certain way, warm yet queasy. He took it as leftover feelings from his breakup.
“Maybe we can, I'll ask your Dad.” After all they could spend time together, there was no bad blood between them, and it was for Akito anyway.
–
“Hello!”
“Hi Satoru.”
“Dad!”
After Akito had run off to the field, Megumi and Satoru continued to talk.
“Glad I was able to get my business trip done in time.”
“How was Singapore?”
“Fine, I didn't get to venture out like other times, it was mainly meeting after meeting and of course dinners to schmooze.” Satoru said with a wave of his hand. “Oh also, here.”
Satoru reached into his pocket and handed Megumi a little dog key chain. It seemed like a German Shepherd and across it was a ribbon that said Singapore Special. Megumi blinked up to him, “Oh, uhm thank you.”
“I saw it at a random shop I went to, to grab food. It reminds me of you, because you love dogs.” Satoru rubbed the back of his neck. “I also have Akito’s, I'll give it to him later. I don't think he would forgive me if I forgot.” He laughed.
“Its kind of you thank you but you don't have to.”
“I know, but I want to.”
–
“Yo Akito! Megumi!” Satoru shouted.
“Hi Dad!”
“Satoru.” Megumi nodded at him.
After some pleasantries, Akito ran off to the field.
“So umm…” Megumi started getting Satoru's attention, who waited for him to continue. “Here.” Megumi shoved an insulated bag to Satoru. The bag had some heft to it. “Akito said that last time he was over you guys were eating out a lot because you've been pretty busy and you commented that you would like a home cooked meal.”
Satoru was speechless but smiling all the same.
“All the meals are pretty nutritious and you know the taste of my cooking, I hope it still satisfies. Also Akito helped with the prep.” Megumi said, looking away from Satoru, a small blush on his cheeks. “You need to take care of yourself, for the sake of Akito of course.”
“Thank you Megumi. I'm sure it will be delicious.” Satoru couldn't help but smile.
–
Soccer had been on break. So Satoru went directly to the house to drop off Akito for the week.
Megumi opened the door a bit after a few knocks. “Hello.”
“Hi Papa.” Akito had a hand behind his hand.
“Hi, what do you hav-” Megumi then had a small bouquet of white daisies in his face. Megumi's lips split in a huge smile, “For me, why thank you Akito.” He took the bouquet from Akito's hands.
“I made dad stop by a really nice florist with a dog hanging outside. Do you like them?”
“I love them, thank you.” Megumi kept smiling at the flowers.
Akito then suddenly nudged Satoru, “Dad, now you.”
Satoru's ears were red, as Megumi had just noticed he also had a hand behind his back. He brought out his hand to reveal a bouquet of camellias, “If you'll accept.”
“I told dad he should also get you some flowers, since he would be the only one empty handed.”
“Akito, thats not-”
“No it's ok, he's right, I shouldn't just show up empty handed.”
Megumi looked back and forth between Akito and Satoru, “Oh well, thank you.” He said while reaching out for the flower's ears turning a bit red.
After a bit more talking Akito went inside.
“You don't have to give in to Akito and get me something next time you know.”
I know I don't have to, I was more worried you wouldn't accept,” Megumi looks at him with wide eyes, "luckily now I know you will.”
–
[Over msgs]
Dad @.@: Did your Papa keep the flowers? Did he throw them away?!??
Me: He put them in the white cat vase in the kitchen.
Dad @.@: Where did he put yours?
Me: In the living room
Dad @.@: The kitchen is closer to the heart metaphorically right?
Me: Just ask him out and stop bothering me about it
Dad @.@: You can't rush something like this!

“Ooooh where are you going looking so good?” Nobara asked Megumi, a mischievous smile on her lips.
They had a movie night along with Maki and Yuji the night before. Nobara was the last one hanging around before leaving.
Before Megumi answered, Nobara spoke again, “Wait, I thought you were picking up Akito in a bit.”
“I am, his game starts in an hour.”
“Oh I see.” Nobara laughed.
“What?”
“No it's just I realized you put on that perfume that you said Gojo liked.”
“I don't know what you're talking about, it's just an expensive perfume that I occasionally wear, I can't let it go to waste.” Megumi kept his voice neutral but his ears were red.
Nobara saw right through him, “Hmm, is that why you're also wearing the pants that make your ass look bigger.”
“I just haven't done laundry!” Megumi's face was completely red at this point.
–
“Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Akito! Happy Birthday to you!”
Multiple voices could be heard, it was Akito's 11th Birthday and Megumi and Satoru had thrown a small party for Akito with his friends and family present.
“Let me take a picture of the family in front of the cake before you start cutting it.” Nobara said as she lifted her Polaroid.
Satoru and Megumi stood behind Akito. Posing for the picture.
“Come on get closer!” Suguru’s voice rang.
Satoru wrapped around Megumi's back, putting his hand on Megumi's shoulder, bringing him closer, “Is this ok?” Satoru asked as he looked at Megumi.
Megumi had a faint blush on his cheeks, “Yeah it's ok.”
“Alright guys look here and smile.”
Nobara took a beautiful family shot.
The party was over. All of Akito's friends had gone home and only a couple of people were left helping clean up the mess throughout the house.
Megumi and Satoru were inside doing the dishes, while everyone else was cleaning up outside.
“Oh really, that bad?”
“Yea, bad attitude but gets the job done, so no need to fire him honestly. Maybe a bit of social training.”
“Maybe that will make him quit.” Megumi laughed.
Over the last couple of months Megumi and Satoru had actually gotten closer. No more awkward small talk, they were able to have great conversations that flowed beautifully. Bickering that would also seem somewhat intimate would arise. It seemed as though they were getting closer and not just for the sake of Akito.
“I hope you don't make your employees quit.” Megumi kept giggling.
Satoru loved seeing Megumi like this, a way he hasn't seen up close in a while, carefree, laughing so freely, just overall happy. Happy with him.
As Megumi turned to grab something, Satoru also reached out to grab it for him, however Satoru tripped and caged him against the counter. Satoru had both hands on either side of Megumi while Megumi had his hands on Satoru's chest to stabilize him. Their faces were inches apart, eyes staring directly into the others, they stayed that way for a bit.
Satoru took his chance and leaned in.
“Satoru-”
“Megumi, if you don't want it, please push me away.”
Megumi didn't want to and he didn't really know what to feel about that. He knew him and Satoru had been playing a certain push and pull game lately and this felt like the culmination of it all. And he wanted it, he wanted to feel Satoru's lips again, his warmth, his love. So he let it happen.
The kiss started slow, a brief touch of the other's lip but suddenly became deep, with Satoru moving his hands to Megumis waist, pulling him closer and Megumis wrapping his arms around Satoru's neck. Who knows how long the kiss would have kept going if it wasn't for a voice breaking them out of their trance.
“FINALLY!” They hear Akito scream. They instantly stop the kiss and Megumi pushes Satoru away as he was just caught doing something he wasn't supposed to.
“Umm Aki-” Megumi started but Akito ran off.
“Everyone! Dad and Papa are getting back together!” Akito screamed at everyone in the backyard. A collective peanut gallery started chiming off, saying “it's about time” or multiple “finally’s” being heard.
“Well uhm, were-” Megumi didn't really know how to answer.
“We are, right?” Satoru said as he looked at Megumi expectantly.
“Umm, it's a work in progress.” Megumi blushed.
There were some groans from their friends, but everyone knew what that meant.
After a bit everyone left and the birthday boy was asleep in his room. The last person to leave was Satoru. As Megumi walked him to the door, Satoru turned to him, “Hey, so that work in progress, did you mean that?”
Megumi did. “If I say yes?”
“Then I would like to further progress it, with a date?”
“Oh a date?” Satoru took Megumi's hand and looked him in the eyes.
“Yea a date. Just me and you. We don't need to bring up the past, just see how it goes between us.”
Megumi couldn't stop the smile that crept on his face, “Ok.”
Satoru broke into a huge smile that made his eyes shine. “Ok. I'll txt you about the details.” He leaned down and kissed Megumi's cheek. “See you, Megumi.”
“See you, Satoru.” Megumi rested against the doorframe as he saw Satoru leave.
–
The evening of the date came, Megumi didn't know anything about the date. Satoru kept saying it’s a surprise. That honestly had him a bit worried as Satoru loved to do big shows and presentations while Megumi is more quiet and liked intimate gestures. But he was also excited, being with Satoru just felt right but he wanted to see how it would feel romantically again.
Megumi had on a black fitted button down that was very fitted and showed off his waist along with black fitted slacks that Nobara chose for him, said it made his ass look good, a gray belt and a black coat over. He thought he looked good and both Nobara and Yuji gave him a thumbs up. He had just finished spraying some cologne when he heard a knock.
Satoru was there to pick him up. He looked great, he had a light blue fitted shirt that brought out his eyes, grey pants and a black leather jacket.
Megumi didn't realize that he was starring until he realized that Satoru hadn't said anything, Satoru was also starring. An immediate blush crept on his face. Satoru broke out of his stupor and started stuttering, “Uhm sorry, you- you look really good. Oh uhm here.” Satoru stretched out his hand and gave Megumi a beautiful bouquet of peonies. Megumi took the bouquet and smiled at Satoru, “Thank you. Let me put them in a vase and we can go.”
They head off to a surprise location of Satoru's choosing, Megumi thought if Satoru had chosen a high end restaurant or rented out a rooftop, with how he usually is. However, Megumi was pleasantly surprised when they drove to a park. After a bit of walking he sees a blanket laid out with food and candles.
Satoru takes Megumi's hand and leads them to the blanket.
“Im honestly a bit surprised I thought there would be a string quartet at least.”
“Dont think I didn't think of that, but I knew you would probably appreciate a quiet more intimate date than anything else.” Satoru directs Megumi to the area for him to sit.
“I do, this is beautiful. Thank you Satoru.”
The date goes amazing, they eat the food that Satoru brought, drink some champagne and just talk all night under the stars. At one point they feel like teenagers looking at the stars, pointing out the constellations. All while Satoru lays his head on Megumi's lap and Megumi runs his fingers through his hair.
The night was growing later, all the food and drinks had been eaten and drank. The date was over, but both were reluctant to leave the field. Satoru said he would pick everything up, but Megumi assisted and even though it was 2 of them picking it took them longer than they anticipated to clean up. Almost as if they were delaying the end.
On the drive back to Megumi's house it felt as though Satoru was taking some extra turns just to keep Megumi with him longer. And if Megumi noticed he didn't say anything.
Ultimately, Satoru could only stall so much and they finally arrived at the house.
Like a gentleman Satoru went around to open Megumi's door and walked him right to the door.
“Thank you for going on this date with me.” Satoru is looking directly at Megumi's eyes when he is speaking, showing his sincerity with every word.
“It was a great date. So thank you for planning that.” A blush is evident on Megumi's cheek.
“Im glad you liked it. Honestly I did think of renting out a high end restaurant for us only, live music while the staff waits on you hand and foot. But I realized, with some help, that your not a client that I'm trying to impress. Your Megumi. Megumi, who I desperately want back in my life. And I will fight for that.”
Megumi was a little stunned by Satoru's heartfelt confession. He really was fighting for this. For them. He couldn't help but smile at the man. He then got on his tip toes, slightly parted his lips, a motion that Satoru caught and obliged. Their lips met in a passionate kiss right in front of his door. Megumi was never one for public displays but he simply didn't care, he felt as though they were in their own world at that point.
Unfortunately the kiss came to an end and Satoru wrapped Megumi in a tight hug. Megumi clinged to Satoru's shirt, not wanting to let him go.
Satoru drew back, “Thank you again for coming out with me, I’ll see you later.” Satoru turned about to leave. Megumi opened his door and before stepping in called out, “Satoru!”
Satoru turned back to Megumi.
“Do you want to come inside for a cup of tea?”
Satoru stood slightly shocked, but instantly shook off his stupor and nodded vigorously, “Yes, uhm yea... I would love to.”
Megumi opened the door, motioning for him to go in.
The tea wasn't the only thing that got hot and steamy that night.
After 2 rounds of a very passionate activity, the pair laid in bed tangled together as Satoru peppered kisses all over Megumi's face.
Both could not stop smiling. Completely basking in the glow of the other, feeling a happiness they don't think they have really felt for some time. But now at this moment they're as happy as can be.
“I'm so glad you're back in my arms.” Satoru said while looking at Megumi, holding him close. “So happy that you're with me again."
“Me too, I'm happy we're like this again. Together.” Megumi reached up to caress Satoru's face.
“I love you. I love you Megumi.” Satoru took Megumi's hand and kissed the back of it.
Megumi felt like crying, there was a time where he didn't know if he would ever hear those words from Satoru directed at him.
“I love you Satoru.”
Satoru stared at Megumi for a little longer, “I should have never agreed to the divorce. I should have fought for us instead of just throwing it all away.”
“Satoru… It's not your fault.”
“But it is, I know it is, because if you would have told me you didn't want the divorce at any time, I would have instantly called it off. I would have moved back home and been with my family in an instant. If it would have been that easy for me to change my mind, I should have fought against the divorce.”
“It's not your fault Satoru, I brought it up. You were just agreeing with what I wanted. Honestly, I don't even know why I said it, I was so angry with you all the time. I acted like a child throwing a tantrum to get their parents attention. You were gone all the time, I understood you're the CEO, so you're going to be busy but it felt like you never wanted to be home. Like you were always bored when it was just me and Akito, that you would prefer to be in the lavish meetings. You were always bigger than life. It felt like our family wasn't enough for you. I should have spoken to you about how I felt instead of just starting a fight and asking for divorce… I guess I just wanted to feel like you would fight for our family but went about it the worst way possible.” Megumi had tears start to pill up in his eyes.
“Megumi, I didn't handle it any better. I was dismissive of everything you brought up during fights, because you were right. I was choosing to spend more time at the office or in meetings, dinners with others, to an extent to see if you would miss me. To see if you would ask me to stay and not go to the dinners and spend time with you and Akito. Or if you would want to come with me to a gala. You were spending so much time in the clinic or just around Akito. God, I feel pathetic to say but I was jealous of our own son for a bit. But I never asked you how you felt about any of it. When you asked for the divorce… honestly I wanted to beg you to take those words back, but you never say anything you don't mean and that terrified me. That you truly didn't want me. There were so many times I wanted to run back to our family but I wanted you to be the one to say something. To say that you wanted our family, that you wanted me. And you didn't. I never wanted to keep you in a loveless marriage, so I agreed. That was the worst decision of my life.”
Satoru wiped away Megumi's tears that were now freely flowing. “I'm sorry Satoru, I'm so sorry.” Megumi kept babbling.
Satoru only held him tighter, “It's ok, we both messed up. We both need to do better. But at least we know now we can.” Satoru held Megumi's face as though he was the most precious thing in this world, “We can learn from those mistakes and make a better future for us.”
Megumi looked at him and nodded. Putting his face in the crook of Satoru's neck, holding him close, the way Satoru also held him.
This was a new beginning for them and their family. While they both mourned the time they lost together, they at least knew they would be stronger from now on.
–
After a morning filled with kisses and sweet words both parties got up. While originally only Megumi was going to go over to Yuji’s to pick up Akito, they decided to both go as a way to let Akito know that they were officially getting back together. Megumi was a bit nervous, he hated that they essentially changed Akito's way of life only to decide that they were going back to how things were. Well it wasn't going to be exactly the same, but he hopped better.
“So how are we going to tell him?” Megumi looked over at Satoru as they made their way to Yuji's home.
“Hes a smart boy, I'm sure he won't be too confused. He seemed to be rooting for us to get back together.” Satoru squeezed Megumi's hand. “Also, if you want to take things slow with us, that's fine too. We don't have to jump into living together again so soon.”
“We kinda threw the whole “taking things slow” out the window last night.”
Satoru laughed. “You know what I mean.”
Megumi wanted him back in the house but he knew they needed a game plan for this. His biggest regret is how this would all affect Akito, he didn't want this to be a whiplash for him. He would take this at whatever pace would be best for him.
They arrived at Yuji's house, both standing next to each other.
Yuji came out to greet the two with Akito. Akito's eyes went wide and a huge smile was on his lips, “Papa! Dad! Wow you guys really are back together, glad it only took one date. Aunty Nobara was right. Uncle Yuji said you guys may take longer to actually get together like before.”
Satoru couldn't help but laugh at his son's outburst while Megumi was left speechless at how his son was apparently discussing his love life with his friends. Megumi gave Yuji a pointed look, in which Yuji rubbed the back of his head giving him a sheepish smile. He at least felt a little embarrassed at this.
They bid their goodbyes to Yuji and decided to take Akito to lunch, all together. While at the restaurant Megumi asked, “Akito how do you feel about me and your Dad getting together again? Like how it was before?” Megumi wanted to approach the topic gently.
“Huh, are you guys not getting back together?”
“No we are, or want to. But we want you to know that your opinion also matters in all of this.”
“Oh, I’m happy if you and dad get back together. Even if your lovely doveyness is gross sometimes, you smile more when you're around each other now. Like how it was before, and I like seeing you both smile.”
Satoru gave a fond look to his son, “Thank you Akito.”
Megumi felt pricks on his eyes, his son was smart and observant. He loved him so much. Having a meal all together with his family, he didn't realize how much he missed it.
“So when is Dad moving back home?” Akito said before he shoved more food in his mouth, looking expectantly at his parents.
Megumi choked on his drink as Satoru laughed.

It took 1 month for Satoru to move back home.
He was sly about it, constantly leaving things behind, that he would then pick up so he could show up at any hour. This in turn made Megumi give him a key to the house again. Then he would stick around until late, Akito would ask if he could just sleep over. Until finally it seemed that Satoru was spending more time at home than his place. All of a sudden, Megumi was waking up to Satoru every morning, and well he couldn't complain. He was happy, he had his family again.
There were no more drop offs or pick ups at the field. Now Megumi and Satoru would show up together with Akito walking in front of him.
Just a few months later, they showed to the field together with matching silver rings. And Akito ran to his teammates to tell them of the awesome party his parents had just thrown.
