Chapter Text
“Yahoo~ March 7th, it's time to wake up.” She heard a distant voice giggle.
March 7th woke up smiling, It was reflex. Muscle memory. Something learned long ago, when she realized people warmed up to you faster if you smiled more. No one liked a crybaby. Smiles made things easier.
Wait.
The ceiling above her was white. The kind of sterile white that screamed of no germs and absolute cleanliness. The kind she hated most. Hospitals always made her uncomfortable. They reminded her of cute, fluffy dromas getting locked up in white rooms, not understanding why they weren’t allowed to leave.
Her smile wavered.
Well, it must be some kind of dream. March thought. Is Stelle playing a prank on me again? Well no biggie, I just have to sit rightttt up!
Pain bloomed throughout her body as she doubled over, stealing a barely hidden wince. Ugh did she twist her ankle again? No, that can’t be right. Her entire body hurts. March 7th’s fingernails dug into the bed sheets below her as she grits her teeth and catches her breath, smoothing her face back to the perfect innocent smile it had long been used to.
“Okkkkayyy, thats new” She muttered to herself,
Well at least her voice is right. Meaning she was probably fine. It was probably just one of those weird episodes and reactions in movies.
The door slammed open, nearly scaring march out of her wits. She flinched back on her already “she could swear she had a broken spine”.
A familiar cluster of pink hair exploded across her view as it launched itself in her arms.
Asta.
“Oh my god little March ! You had everyone so worried– ” Her voice wobbled with barely controlled emotions. Asta’s bony elbows dug into March's sides, but she didn’t mind. It helped her ground herself to reality, the pain reminded her that she’s not dreaming. After a second, probably seeing march’s pained grimace, Asta’s hug softens.
“Oh god, sorry sorry. How do you feel, does it hurt anywhere? Are you hungry?”
Since when was Asta this close to her?
“ I’m fine, really!” March smiled automatically, patting Asta’s back in what she hoped was reassuring. “Why am I here?”
The pink haired figure stiffened.
‘Y-you don't remember?” Asta seemed strangely taken back by that. A smidge of her smile faded away, March noticed plainly. That’s odd. Was there something she needed to remember?
Something passed through Asta’s eyes before smoothing over into something like sympathy.
“March… you’re safe now okay? We can get through this together.” Asta’s gentle words came through the fog clouding in her mind, it felt so heavy.
The words washed over March, bouncing off without making much sense. Safe from what?
Asta’s smile kept faltering the more she stared at her. Where’s Stelle, Dan Heng, everyone?
She… doesn’t remember.
