Early Gifts

Summary:

It's not that they think Jack needs the papers, he is their son through and through, Jack knows that. They know that Jack knows that, but sometimes it's nice to gave a physical reminder.

Notes:

This wasn't my actual idea, it was a request from years ago in a tumblr ask that I can no longer find. But the idea is very sweet and I wish I'd gotten to it a lot sooner, I hope you enjoy it <333

Work Text:

It was early in the morning, not as early as when Jack had woken up at four-thirteen. Six was dawning rapidly now. Jack had been in his room staring up at the ceiling wanting to wake his parents but also, he knew Sam probably needed the sleep.

When there was that familiar tap on his door, he jumped up out of bed. Both Castiel and Sam standing, still in their pajamas and robes. There with knowing looks that Jack had probably been up for some time now. "Morning," Sam said, full of mirth. Perhaps Jack had ran to the door fairly quickly.

It was out of fondness which Jack knew. They walked to the kitchen talking softly about dreams. "One minute we were at the park and then Dean turned into a sock. And then a gummy worm, and I was so worried a bird was going to try and eat him." Jack said, shaking his head, "It was very stressful."

"Sounds it," Sam said, "I once dreamt that Dean got turned into a ladybug and I was trying to keep him safe but a bunch of ladybugs began to appear and I lost him in the horde of them. I was crying when I woke up, I think I was like seven."

They walked into the kitchen and dispersed, Jack headed to the counter and took a seat across from them. While the other two remained on the opposite side of the island. Castiel started a brew of coffee while Sam started on pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Both handing each other items they'd need. "I clung onto him for a week scared he was going to have a transformation. To the point where my Dad started looking for a damn counter spell thinking it might happen because I seemed to have a keen sense for that type of thing. I think it just had to do with Dean's horror movies he kept watching."

"If that were to happen now, I'd be able to identify him for you," Castiel told Sam who smiled, "Thank you, Cas." He leaned over for a chaste kiss, and stole a few extra. They looked over to see Jack staring anywhere but at them. They recently discovered Jack was in that phase of, my parents doing anything affectionate is very embarrassing.

They shook their heads, smiles indestructible as they carried on in the kitchen. Sam grabbed a bowl to start his batter when he caught Castiel's eye. The two shared a look and Sam nodded. Castiel leaned forward, "Jack, do you want to open a present?"

"It's not Christmas yet," He said, and Sam chuckled, "We know. But you can open one gift early. If you want."

His parents could see the inner turmoil of wanting to wait for the festivities because it's tradition but also an early gift is an early gift. "There will be plenty for you to open on the day of," Castiel lightly reminded him. "This one is one we planned to give you early." Sam added on.

"Yes," Jack decided, and Castiel pulled it out of his robe, and slid it forward. It was carefully wrapped in a shiny snowflake wrapping paper. Jack found where the tape started and carefully peeled it back, not wanting to ruin the paper. Sam and Castiel shook their heads, smiling nonetheless.

Sam finished his batter and sprayed the pan by the time Jack had finished unfolding the wrapping paper with absolute, utmost precision and caution. He pulled out an official looking book that had his name engraved into. Or a version of of his name, Jack Kline-Winchester. He'd asked how could he honor his mother's name and Sam's long ago and since they've decided a hyphenated version of it was best.

"Open it," Sam encouraged, putting a hold on breakfast to watch.

Jack opened it up, it was a paper that looked like random paperwork until he read it. "Child: Jack Kline-Winchester. Adopting Parents: Sam Winchester and Castiel Winchester…What is this?" Jack asked.

"You've been our son since the day your mother let me protect you and since Sam found you in the cabin. Nothing will ever change that, but we thought you might like having a physical reminder of it." Castiel said, and before he could finish saying that, Jack was out of his seat hugging them both.

They wasted no time to hug Jack back, "Thank you." He whispered, and they held on tighter. Pressing kisses to the top of hair.

"Castiel Winchester…" Jack said, looking up at them. Castiel chuckled already knowing where this was going. "Still not getting married," Sam said. Jack deflated a bit, "But…we can get rings or something, and you can help us pick." Sam said, and Jack nodded.

"I'd like that." Sam ruffled Jack's hair and smiled at Castiel, "I'd like that too." Jack's parents shared another kiss, and for once Jack didn't made a face. He would five minutes later when they decide to share a coffee together, but in that moment he'd enjoy the love.

Notes:

Missing the Sastiel family hours, I have one more Christmas fic idea. I hope you guys will like it <333
