Chapter Text
It was a cold week and Robert found himself at Chad’s house. His apartment’s heat went out and he didn’t want his kid to freeze. Beef was bundled up while Robert, admittedly, was not. He found himself knocking, hoping Chad was home.
He rubbed his hands together, trying to keep warm. Beef snuggled into his side, trying to help.
“Papa, cold?”
“A little bit, buddy.” He admitted, “But nothing I can’t handle.”
Chad opened the door, grumbling, but stopped when he saw who it was.
“What are you and the little guy doing here?”
Robert took a deep breath, “Heat went out in our apartment, was hoping we can stay here for at least tonight?”
There was silence and he closed the door, “Give me a moment, I wasn’t expecting any guests.”
After a moment, the door opened again and they were ushered inside.
“Make yourselves at home.”
He was grateful, Chad’s home was always so warm. As he stepped inside, it hit him and he felt his body relax. The cold had been messing with bones and he had been relying on his cane more this week. As he sat on the couch, Chad made his way to the kitchen.
A few minutes later, he found out why when he came back with two steaming mugs of hot chocolate.
Before Beef could take a sip, Robert nervously took it.
“I’m not sure if Beef can have chocolate.”
Chad thought for a moment and grabbed his keys.
~
That’s how Robert found himself with Beef in his lap in Chad’s passenger seat. They were in the hospital parking lot just in case. Chad pulled out a piece of chocolate and handed it towards Beef.
The kid seemed a little confused, but his tail was wagging. He was just happy to be with his Papa and Chad. Robert unwrapped the chocolate and let Beef try a piece.
Neither of them were hybrids so they don’t know how allergies work and hadn’t thought to ask. Yes, they both texted Victor just to ask, but that answer was vague. It seemed like it was a lot like human allergies.
They waited a few minutes and nothing happened.
“So, he doesn’t seem to be allergic to chocolate.” Robert sighed, “That’s good…”
Chad nodded, “Now, we can go back to my place and he can finally have a hot chocolate.”
~
Robert ended up snuggling on the couch with Beef as they sipped on their hot chocolates. Chad had reheated it before sitting with them. He put on a random kid’s movie for Beef. He brought over a blanket and draped it over them so they were comfortable.
A few minutes later, Robert fell asleep, his head falling onto Chad’s shoulder. He stiffened, but slowly relaxed. Beef turned to say something to his dad, but stayed quiet then turned to Chad.
He stared at him and Chad stared back.
“Two Papas?”
His face went red and tried to not to heat up and disturb Robert.
A little later, he mumbled, “Maybe… hopefully.”
Beef just nodded and turned back to the TV. He seemed… okay with that which for some reason made Chad feel better. Some part of him was relieved that Beef was okay with him. Maybe one day he’ll ask Robert out on an actual date…
