Work Text:

The sunlight bled through the cracks of the curtains, lighting up the room in a way that made it seem like Rumi had died and woken up in heaven.

She yawned, rubbing her eyes to get the gunk out, blinking she looked to her sides to find herself alone in their shared bed.

Confused, Rumi got out of the bed and walked to the door, peaking through the small gap.

Everything looked pretty normal, no holes in the walls, no out of place furniture, no unnatural growling sounds of a demon, just the humming of the heater on and the soft purring of Derpy lying near the kitchen counter.

The only thing that was missing was the clanking of Mira making their morning coffee and Zoey sitting on the bar stool telling Mira about the turtle videos she’d watched the night before.

Rumi didn’t know whether she should take this as a good sign or not. She slid through the gap of the door and made her way to the open space of their penthouse apartment.

Why was it so quiet?

Her question was immediately answered as she rounded the corner to their living room taking in the scene.

The living room was quite spacious, with a humongous TV mounted on the wall, various photos framing it, pictures of them, a large fluffy carpet lay on the ground with a coffee table just above it, and then sat a really big couch in front of it all, and on that couch, sat Mira.

Mira sat comfortably in the middle of the couch, her legs stretched out on the coffee table with a blanket splayed over her. Wrapped around her was one of her oversized hoodies, and in her hand was a book.

She looked up from her book as soon as Rumi stepped onto the carpet.

“Good morning.” Mira said with a small smile, her thin framed glasses slipping down her nose.

“Morning.” Rumi replied, stretching her arms.

She looked around the apartment again, thinking something before looking back at Mira with a small crease of confusion in her forehead.

“Where’s Zoey?”

Mira’s lips twitched slightly, she raised one of her hands and signaled Rumi to come sit next to her.

Slightly confused, Rumi didn’t argue, she took a few steps until her knees met the edge of the sofa, falling onto the expensive, plush cushions.

That’s when Mira pointed towards the front of her hoodie.

Rumi titled her upper body forward slowlyuntil she finally saw what Mira was showing her.

Inside Mira’s hoodie, slept Zoey. Her slim fingers curled around Mira’s sleeping shirt, tightening at any slight noise, her eyelashes brushed against her freckled cheeks, fluttering every now and then, her lips parted, emitting quiet snores.

She looked like a baby sleeping on her mother’s chest.

Mira’s eyes softened as she gazed at Zoey’s sleeping face.

“She had a nightmare and went out of the room for water, I woke up and heard her so I followed her. And well, I guess we ended up here.” She finished it off my giving Zoey a light kiss to her forehead, just shy of her over-grown bangs.

Rumi smiled, leaning forward to leave her own little kiss on Zoey too, at that gesture, she made a small noise, before snuggling closer into Mira’s warm form.

Mira’s smile turned into a smirk, still looking down at the sleeping form of her girlfriend.

Click.

Mira’s head whipped up to see Rumi holding her phone in her hands, slightly angled to take a shot of both her girls in the screen.

Rumi giggled, turning her phone off and putting it back in her lap.

“Should’ve kept my phone on silent, would’ve gotten more pictures.” She said with a shrug of her shoulders.

Mira sighed in defeat, turning her gaze back forward.

“Just wait until Zoey wakes up and sees the picture”

Notes:

I was reading a fanfic when I got this idea of Zoey sneaking into Mira’s big hoodie and Rumi finding them like this on the couch.
