Work Text:

Miss J silently watched as her bodyguards raced around the room, mentally she tallied up how much overtime this whole situation would get her as the trio of white, blond, and black haired children continued to out manoeuvre her bodyguards.

It was fairly pathetic all things considered.

Miss J managed to watch a moment more as a child version of Nice threw an ornamental statue at Oliver before she was forced to cover her eyes in embarrassment.

Honestly, what did she pay these people for?

Tilting her head back, Miss J recalled how exactly she'd ended in this situation.

"You'll take care of them until the villain is apprehended." Mr. Shang's voice echoed through the phone, the only sound in the elevator as it steadily rose to the floor they were being quarantined on. "The commission will deal with sating the public, all you need to do is ensure their health."

"I'll see it done, sir." Miss J waited a beat for the dial tone before waving her hand, signaling Nathan to pull the phone away.

"So what's the problem this time Juan-jie?" Alexander held the tablet out, letting Miss J type something out before she was waving him off as well.

"Who knows? We'll figure it out once we're up there." Miss J tilted her head back, glaring up at the roof of the elevator. "The commission being involved is worrisome though…."

"You don't think they're dying right?" Neil called out from the corner where he and Oliver were hunched over a laptop checking public opinion for any leaks on the situation. "I don't know if we could help with that."

"No one's dying," Miss J snapped back, Neil shrunk back at her glare, "and if they are, you lot are going down to hell to get them back."

"Why did you assume they'd all go to hell-"

"Who said you could stop working?!" Miss J interrupted Oliver, watching the way they both panicked, almost slamming into each other before focusing back on the task at hand.

Right on que the elevator dings, signaling their arrival. Without a word the bodyguards had made a physical barrier between Miss J and whatever was waiting for them beyond the safety of the elevator.

Alexander stepped out first, shoulders squared and fists clenched in preparation. What exactly he thought he could do against living weapons Miss J wasn't sure, but she could applaud the effort.

She could, though she wouldn't bother to.

Alexander managed a few more steps before he caught sight of something racing past in the corner of his eye, whipping around Alexander gestured for the others to follow, ensuring Miss J was sandwiched between them as he took the final few steps towards and overturned table.

Carefully, almost fearfully thought he wouldn't admit that, Alexander pulled the table away revealing a crouching brown haired boy?

The boy blinked up at him, before waving a hand. "Hi, Nice is going to hit you now."

"Wait what?"

Alexander was then pummeled by two tiny children until they were physically dragged off of him.

That led to the current situation, her bodyguards utterly failing to capture and contain three rowdy children.

There was a tug on her arm, once, twice, a third time before Miss J finally sighed and allowed her arm to be pulled away from where it was keeping her head up. The arm was maneuvered down, until it could wrap around a small form, a child's form.

Counting to ten in her head, Miss J finally pulled her hand away from her face to glance down at where Lin Ling was curled up by her side.

"What do you think you're doing?" Miss J kept her voice level as she stared at the boy, big brown eyes staring back at her like he didn't see anything wrong with what he doing. "It's rude to grab people, Lin Ling."

"But jiejie looked sad," the boys brows furrowed, like Miss J being sad was somehow an unacceptable concept to him, "when I'm said mama always hugs me and it makes me feel better."

Miss J stared at the boy, before sighing and pulling him against her and feeling the way his tiny arms strained to hug her. Miss J leaned her head back across the couch, managing to catch sight of Wreck and Nice managing to trip two of the bodyguards, while Moon had somehow managed to take out the other two.

"Lin Ling."

"Yes, Jiejie?" Lin Ling tilted his head back, the innocent look in his eyes was almost enough to make her ignore what was happening behind her, until she heard a very loud crash.

"Never change, Lin Ling."

Lin Ling tilted his head to the side in confusion. "I'll try?"

Seeing the confused look on his face, Miss J reached out with her other hand to ruffle the boys hair. "Good enough for now."
