Summary
The dead walk outside Alexandria's walls. Inside, Carl reads his way through the Bible – Genesis to The Book of Revelation, searching for the verse that explains what he and his father are becoming. He finds Cain's mark, Abraham and Isaac, Lot's daughters. He finds men who were gods and sons who were offerings. Carl finds everything except the passage that tells him how to stop wanting the things he shouldn't.
