Why Did You Agree?

Summary:

Abolish and Scott go to a concert, but Abolish is afraid of crowds. I wonder what Scott will do?

Notes:

Disclaimer: I've only been to classical/orchestra concerts, so this might be a little incorrect. -_-

Work Text:

"You shouldn't have said yes." Drift told Abolish as he picked at the loose threads of the couch they were sitting on.

"I know," he said. "But he was so excited to go, and I just...couldn't refuse." Abolish stared at his hands.

Scott had asked him if he wanted to go to an outdoor concert. The agent had agreed, much against his better judgement. Since moving to New York he'd realized just how much he feared crowds, and a concert is one of the most crowded places possible. So yes, it was definitely a bad idea.

Drift sighed. "Well, good luck then," she said, shrugging. They stayed silent for a second, the only sounds being Shelby's giggles from upstairs as she helped Scott pick out an outfit and get ready.

Abolish had been planning to go with what he'd shown up to the house in, but Drift had convinced him to let her put a little makeup on him while they were waiting. Abolish had to admit it did look good.

The two couch-dwellers' attention was drawn to the stairs as Scott and Shelby decended. Shelby came down first, giving Drift a beamish smile. After her came Scott and...oh god.

He was wearing a crimson corset and a frilly white undershirt over black jeans. Dark metallic chains criss-crossed around his waist, clinking softly as he moved. A metal teardrop earring dangled from his left ear. His face was brushed with makeup, his eyes adorned with black eyeliner and dark red eyeshadow. Scott's lips were painted perfectly crimson, slightly darker than the lipstick he usually wore.

Abolish could feel the blush spreading across his face as he looked Scott up and down, trying his best not to stare but absolutely failing. Soft snickering drew him out of his thoughts.

"Staring, darling? Can't say I blame you," Scott teased, crossing the room to stand a few feet in front of Abolish. The agent flushed more and wrenched his eyes away, instead focusing on Scott's hand that was reached out towards him. Abolish placed his palm in Scott's and let himself be pulled up to standing. Rather than letting go, the eldest vampire interlocked their fingers and waved to the girls with his other hand.

"We're going to head out now!" He said, gently pulling Abolish towards the door. The agent's last glimpse of the girlfriends was Shelby whispering something into Drift's ear that gave the detective a wicked smile.

Him and Scott exited out onto a deserted street, save for an old couple walking their little dog.

"Hello sweetie!" The little old lady called out as she urged her husband to walk faster. She seemed to give up after a second and just went ahead without him.

"Hi Susan!" Scott said, smiling at her. "How have you and Bill been?" He asked, gesturing at both her and the old man finally catching up.

"We've been great! Though lately little Chewy has been a handful," Susan responded, pointing at the little poodle. "But nevermind that, who's this cute boyfriend of yours?" She asked, smiling at Abolish.

The agent turned pink and mumbled, "My name's Abolish."

"What a unique name!" She cried, glancing between the two of them and smiling wider. "Take care of each other and you might just end up like Bill and me here."

"You mean stuck caring after someone else's dog?" Bill groaned, picking up Chewy. Susan turned to him.

"We both know you love that poodle, so you better stop complaining!" She said, lovingly hitting him with her elbow. Bill chuckled and handed her the dog, which Susan settled in the crook of her left arm. Scott watched them bicker for a moment before cutting in.

"Well, it's wonderful to see you but we need to get going or we won't get a good spot for the concert," he said, drawing the old lady's attention once again.

"Alright then, dear. Have fun!" She responded, waving at Scott as he led Abolish away. The vampire waved back before turning to the man next to him once again. Abolish waited a second before asking the question that had been tumbling around in his mind for the past few minutes.

"How do you know them?" He wondered, looking up at Scott's face. It was quite a steep angle, as they were very close and Scott was about five inches taller than him.

"Bill and Susan are always walking Chewy when I get home from work, so we ended up talking," the vampire replied, smiling once again.

"Oh," was all Abolish said in return. They walked hand and hand in silence for a few minutes, both of them stealing glances at each other. At one point they locked eyes but looked away quickly, Abolish blushing and Scott looking like if he could, he'd be bright red. After a little while of walking, they finally reached the concert venue.

It was a large outdoor stage mostly made of concrete with a big fence surrounding the audience area. Abolish followed Scott through security, where they showed their tickets, and to a good spot near the front. The vampire took out his phone and began playing sudoku, turning his screen so the other man could watch.

A crowd began forming around them and Abolish tensed, feeling uncomfortable but not wanting Scott to notice. Soon, the band came on—some group Abolish had never heard of, not that he was paying attention. When the band had started playing, the people near them also started pushing towards the stage.

There were just so many bodies surrounding him and he couldn't move without touching someone and his chest felt all tight and it was getting hard to breathe...

Abolish was hyperventilating and curling in on himself and his brain was filled with fog. Scott looked down, seeing his boyfriend in distress, and immediately turned away from the stage.

"Abolish?" he said, gently squeezing the agent's hand. The words cut through Abolish's mounting panic.

"Are you okay?" the vampire asked, watching the shorter man carefully. Abolish nodded but wouldn't look him in the eyes, instead staring at the ground.

"We can leave if you want." Scott offered, his eyebrows furrowing with concern.

"But you were so excited to come here! I can just suck it up." Abolish protested, trying to control his breathing.

"I'd rather you feel comfortable," Scott responded, lifting the agent's chin up so their eyes locked. "We're going to leave now, because I know you're not." Abolish said nothing but returned the vampire's earlier squeeze on his hand.

They started making their way out of the crowd, Scott shielding Abolish with his own body so the agent would have to touch the least amount of people possible. The vampire led Abolish out of the clearly marked exit and to a large tree some ways away from the concert. There, Scott helped him sit down and waited—just as a comforting presence—until Abolish's breathing slowed down.

"Feeling better?" he asked, opening his arm for Abolish to slide under. The agent accepted the invitation, gladly leaning against Scott's side.

"Yeah," he mumbled. "Sorry for making you leave the concert." Scott rolled his eyes.

"I already told you, I care much more about you than some silly little band I'll have dozens more chances to see. But also, the whole park is rented out for the concert and we're now technically trespassing. So let's get you back to your house." The vampire said, standing and taking Abolish with him.

"You don't even know where my house is!" the agent argued.

"Then I'll take you to mine." Scott said, taking his arm off Abolish's back and linking theirs together instead.

"C'mon. Let's go home."

Notes:

Hope you enjoyed my gay munchkins! I only found the Crossfangs ship like a week ago but it's so cute and this idea popped into my head. I couldn't get rid of it so I wrote this and decided to post. Love y'all and have a good day!
