Work Text:
J was tired.
Trying to keep up with all of corporate’s demands with one teammate who was as useless as a paper bucket and one who cared more about getting creative with her killing than meeting quotas was…not ideal.
She slumped forwards against her desk, her face falling onto the seemingly never ending pile of paperwork. When was the last time she’d slept? She didn’t know. All she knew was she needed to get this work done. She was already behind.
It was just difficult when her lack of sleep made her vision blurry and movements drowsy. She couldn’t even hold a pen.
V stirred from where she’d curled up earlier in the night-no, last night, it was 3:43 in the morning now. J groaned miserably. V blinked slowly, her optics adjusting to the dark after waking up.
“J?” she sounded off, barely awake as she tried to sit up groggily. J watched her.
“What are you still doing up? It’s…” she checked the time at the bottom of her vision, “almost four AM. You should be sleeping.”
J sighed. She knew V was right. Every part of her was begging for sleep.
“I need to get-“ she trailed off, too tired to even form sentences anymore. V was seemingly more awake now, standing up and walking over to J’s seat.
“J, you’re almost passing out. You can’t work when you’re this tired, so it’s useless to try. Just go to bed and I’ll help you with paperwork tomorrow, okay?”
J could barely understand V, but she nodded anyway. Whatever she was saying was probably right, and the rare softness in her voice could make J agree to anything. She tried to stand, only for her legs to buckle, her head only just avoiding being slammed against the desk because V caught her.
“Woah there, sleepyhead. Just let me…”
J felt the world be swept out from underneath her as V picked her up and carried her over to her usual sleeping spot. V was warm. J couldn’t form any coherent thought other than that fact. So, automatically, she clung to V, her brain too tired to overthink the action. She just wanted comfort.
V made no effort to refuse, laying down next to her and returning the embrace. She pressed a soft kiss to the top of J’s head, knowing she was too tired to remember it in the morning.
“G’night…V…” J mumbled, already practically asleep.
“Night, J.”
Both girls slept well that night, and when J woke up feeling warm and rested the next day, her first thought was the memory of V’s lips pressed against her hair.
