Pondwater

Summary:

Track 6 on AJ Crowley's platinum-award-winning album For A Breath I Tarry.

(Art + audio file! Listen to Pondwater for real!)

Notes:

With HUGE thanks to my beloved reader @limeriskit, who connected me with the massively talented Emerson (@emersxn.hs on Instagram). Emerson did all of the playing, singing, recording, and mixing of this song, and worked very hard to ensure that the result is everything I wanted it to be. I'm so, so proud to present ✨the canon version of Pondwater!

If you love it, leave a comment — tell Emerson what an amazing job he's done, and how much you'd ALSO enjoy hearing the acoustic serenade from Find the Light Chapter 5! I bet we can talk him into it. 😁

Special thanks as well to @Outrageous_Ring for hosting the audio on her SoundCloud account!

Work Text:

Outrageous_Ring · POND WATER (NYE MIX) - VOL II

Footprints in the mud

Leaves dripping gold

The stinking algae stains your skin

But it doesn’t stain you, alight, exposed

You lift your arms

Rooted in slime

Creation responds to your merest whisper

Tripping over your skin, entangled, entwined

Find the light

But the light finds you

The shadows slide off, no dusk, no dew

Can mar the glory of what you’ve become

Preserved in amber, born anew

From pondwater

Pondwater

Pull in the humid

And breathe it out fresh

Transform what you touch, no heart could withstand

The brightness within, unblemished, possessed

Transfer the brightness

Absorb the pain

You fell but you’re standing, the mud makes you clean

You fly without moving, silent, aflame

Find the light

But the light finds you

The shadows slide off, no dusk, no dew

Can mar the glory of what you’ve become

Preserved in amber, born anew

From pondwater

Pondwater

No sacrament purer

No baptism more blessed

Breathless and broken

A hand to your chest

The water will rise

And carry you down

But bring the light with you

What’s lost will be found

Found at last

Find the light

But the light finds you

The shadows slide off, no dusk, no dew

Can mar the glory of what you’ve become

Preserved in amber, born anew

From pondwater
