    Summary

Crowley had made plenty of dumb decisions in his existence. Some of those decisions had been made on a whim, or out of sheer morbid curiosity.

That day he had to admit was probably his worst decision to date.

    Summary

“Ready for lunch?” Crowley drops to his knees to start unbuckling the straps on the basket as though this is something they do all the time; as though he hasn’t just effortlessly catapulted Aziraphale back in time almost fifty years.

“You remembered,” Aziraphale breathes as wonder courses through him. He mentioned something once during an awkward moment, half a century ago, and now here kneels a demon atop a picnic blanket.

“Hmm?” Crowley barely shoots him a sidelong glance as he concentrates on opening the basket.

Aziraphale’s eyes do not move from him. “You remembered,” he repeats, no less stunned. “Crowley, you really didn’t have to.”

Crowley’s hands still. Eventually, his eyes still on the basket, he murmurs, “Well, we did The Ritz, didn’t we?”

    Summary

Aziraphale Fell is an accomplished food writer and book collector who leads a quiet life. Anthony Crowley, owner of the Grand Duke Distillery, has a wild reputation that’s more fiction than fact. As former culinary school classmates, they share a love of food and drink — and a history of a long ago, lingering kiss. Years later, their friendship simmers into a heated affair that might just lead to true love — if they can overcome their own doubts.

Aziraphale rises from his chair, takes a few steps towards him, then hesitates. Crowley knows a hundred different emotions must be flickering across his face, reflecting all the turmoil between his head and his heart. His heart is loud, insistent, nudging him to see the earnest hope in Aziraphale’s expression, to remember the beatific boy who lent him a pen and kissed him on a stair step, urging him to not let go of this man with ink-stained fingers and rare books who constantly surprises him.

His shoulders tense as his breath hitches, his voice hoarse. “You need to tell me exactly what you want.”

Aziraphale is a food writer, and Crowley owns a whiskey distillery. They went to culinary school together (and shared a single kiss) before Crowley left suddenly.

Written for me for FTH 2025, Crowley gets arrested at a protest and the lawyer assigned to him is Aziraphale, who he fell in love with at camp when they were kids, but hasn’t seen since.
