Work Text:

Durin couldn't sleep. Curled up on the bed he had tried getting used to, he let out a soft frustrated sigh as he wriggled to get comfortable with his wings and tail.

It had always been easier to sleep well in his mini form—distractions were limited, his wings and short legs allowed him to curl up and doze off with ease. Right now, his mind was clouded. Polluted. He didn't know what was wrong with his mind, but it would just not go away. Maybe he could ask his brother Albedo or maybe Hat Guy later.

The moon high in the sky told Durin it was probably dead in the middle of the night, the soft light illuminating the delicate architecture  of the Sumeru designed room. He still had to get used to the surroundings and the lack of cat sofas.

After visiting Mondstadt for a while, Durin had asked Hat Guy whether they could return to Sumeru, as he heard that the Sabzeruz festival was upcoming, and he had been super excited to watch Fairy Nilou perform. When Hat Guy returned for his studies, Durin had tagged along with excitement, but now everything just felt like nothing.

His head terribly throbbed along with his heart. His tail twitched slightly and he shuffled once again in his bed. He tossed the blanket off of him to let cooler air hit his skin, struggling to even have a peaceful second of rest.

Standing up, Durin rubbed his eyes before making his way out of the room, using the limited moonlight that brightened the darkness of his surroundings. Suddenly hearing a sound, he quickly turned to face the direction of where the sound had come from.

“Hat Guy?” Durin called out with a hint of curiosity, unsure why the other was up at this time instead of getting rest. “Why aren't you asleep?”

“Huh, couldn't I ask the same thing to you?” Hat Guy turned around to face Durin with a deadpan expression, “Anyways, I simply don't need to sleep.” Crossing his arms, Hat Guy looked towards Durin from under his hat, before a split second of worry had appeared on his face.

“Oh, uh,” Durin fiddled with his own fingers, looking sheepishly towards the other, “I couldn't sleep…”

Hat Guy immediately made his way over to Durin, placing a hand over his forehead taking him aback.

“Hat Guy? Is this a way humans communicate?” With confusion evident in his voice, Hat Guy let out a scoff.

“You're burning up.” He retracted his hand before heading to the kitchen of the house. Before Durin could freak out over the potential idea of burning up with his pyro vision, Hat Guy elaborated, “Although your pyro vision can make you feel warmer, burning up in this sense means you have a fever. You're sick. I assume you couldn't tell because you haven't been sick in this form before.”

Letting out a small ‘oh’, Durin watched as the other had quickly run a towel under cool water, before bringing it to lay it over his forehead. The younger dragon felt the warmth make contact with his headache, slightly soothing his discomfort.

Bringing Durin back into his room, Hat Guy placed a cup of water on the side, and sat Durin down on the bed. Standing besides him with his arms crossed, Durin watched Hat Guy's expression as he looked out the window.

“Why do you not need sleep, Hat Guy?”

As the dragon asked the question, Hat Guy slightly hesitated, seeming unsure on how to answer the query. Durin laid slightly towards the side of the bed, facing outwards to look out the window.

“...I just, simply don't have the need to.” The unbothered voice to the right of him was heard in the comforting quietness of the

It was a stupid answer, but Durin knew that if he was going to ask any further, it would be just unnecessary.

The two quietly observed the soft moonlight outside of the window, the silence slightly hugging the two in a comforting embrace. The Sumeru breeze blew through a gap in the window, before Durin let out a small sneeze.

Rubbing his nose slightly with the knuckle of his finger, he noticed Hat Guy held back a small smile, before he felt a hand softly maneuver him to lay on his back.

“Just have a good sleep for now. See you tomorrow.”

Durin then finally feel the drowsiness take over as Hat Guy watched, the soothing atmosphere allowing the little dragon to finally rest for the night.
