“I’m not sick, Light.”

Summary:

Light sighed, holding L’s face to force him look at him, studying his expression before talking. “You should lay off the Kira investigation until you’ve recovered. You need to heal.”

L broke the eye contact. “I’m not sick, Light.” he scoffed, pushing Light’s hands away, beginning to walk back to their bedroom. Light pulled the chain, bringing L along with it.

Work Text:

L felt the sudden need to vomit - his stomach churned. Throwing up was a major inconvenience, not to mention the disgust it caused. L was human, and it was in human nature to throw up. This doesn’t mean he didn’t hate it, infact, L was scared of vomiting. The experience made him uncomfortable, vulnerable, and shaken up. He knew it wasn’t a big deal, but he couldn’t help but view it like one.

Light was sleeping comfortably in bed, blissfully unaware of the blooming issue around him. Rattling the chain, L tried to wake Light up, he couldn’t go to the bathroom by himself because of the chains, he needed Light to cooperate and go with. The tugs and shaking of the chain did manage to wake up Light, but he wasn’t too pleased by that.

”Ryuzaki, its 2 in the morning. I know you don’t sleep so often, but that doesn’t mean the same applies to me! What could you possibly need?” Light spoke with a deliberate passive agressive tone.

The words were stuck in L’s mouth, unsure if it was the result of his fear of vomiting or his need to vomit stopping him. Either way, he gestured to the bathroom. He felt himself gagging. Light recognised the signs, getting out of bed to go to their bathroom. Usually, Light would just wait outside the bathroom, whether L had to wash his hands, brush his teeth, or actually need to use the toilet, he’d loiter outside with the door shut. However, he felt like he needed to be there - to keep L’s hair out of the way, or something.

L hunched over the toilet, hurling whatever was in his stomach. The noises produced made Light grimace, how annoying. Regardless, Light held L’s hair back, waiting for L to finish.

It was out of character for L to cry, but here they were. L had (finally) finished spewing out his insides, so Light let go of his hair, leaving L shaking and what was seemingly crying.

It didn’t take very long for Light to recognise what those quiet sobs were. “Ryuzaki- are you crying?” Light was understandably confused by the situation, seeing your co-worker crying over the toilet after vomiting wasn’t necessarily a normal experience. Honestly, L didn’t even bother replying. He stood up with a sniffle, washed the puke off his face, and wiped the tears away from his eyes. He couldn’t even make eye contact with Light, showing his suspect such a vulnerable side of himself was shameful.

”Don’t give me that, you’re very clearly unwell,” Light gestured to L’s appearance, “You can’t be working like this. I’ll have to work in the bedroom because of the chain keeping us together, so I’ll ring the taskforce to explain our absence.”

“Kira can attack when I’m not looking. For all I know, you could use this to your advantage and mess with the data to interfere with the investigation whilst I’m off guard.”

”Ryuzaki, just drop it already! I’m not Kira!”

”That’s something Kira would say.”

Light groaned, this conversation was useless and contributed nothing. Tired and wanting to sleep, Light dropped the topic. If L wasn’t going to listen, so be it. If L’s illness worsened, so be it. Whatever happens, Light could just play it off with an ‘I warned you’. He did try to help, after all. It was L who was being stubborn, refusing the support that Light was willing to provide.

"Whatever. You'll see soon enough that your deductions were wrong, but for now, I'm going back to bed." Deliberately trying to convey his annoyance through his tone rather than mannerisms, he delivered his words in a snarky way, adding a scoff at the end.

L didn't reply, but followed Light back into their bedroom (not like he had a choice, anyways). He took a seat on his deskchair, which he was pretty insistent about sleeping on.

"Ryuzaki, I'm not doing this with you right now. Just get in the bed." Light retorted to L's annoying habit, which Light done so whilst laying down comfortably. He made sure to leave a generous amount of space for L in their bed.

"I'm not sick, Light."

L was getting on Light's nerves, badly. Light wanted to go over to him and hit some sense into the guy, but he knew that was wrong to do. Besides, he didn't have the energy to go through with that thought anyway.

"I didn't mention that. I'm just telling you to sleep in the bed, it's more comfortable than sleeping on a chair." Light tugged at the chain, mainly to annoy L. "But you are sick, I'll have to tell Watari about this illness in the morning, but for now, just get some rest. Please."

The exhaustion was evident in Light's voice. It was clear that all he wanted was for L to shut up and get some sleep, he was way too tired to be dealing with this.

As if it was some miracle, L complied. Of course, not after a few quiet, passive aggressive comments under his breath. It seemed he, too, was tired of the situation.

They woke up roughly around the same time, the memory of the incident from a couple hours ago still lingered, setting a rather uncomfortable atmosphere already.

"I'll contact Watari now. I don't care if you work or not. It's your fault if your sickness worsens." Light lied. He wanted L to heal, there wasn't very much fun in talking about his theories with the other members of the taskforce. L and Light were similar in intelligence, they understood each other's reasoning and thoughts well. He wanted L to heal so they can continue to have that together.

Maybe it was Light’s selfishness that made him want L to recover. He couldn’t really tell, it wasn’t really necessary anyway. He just found enjoyment in discussing theories with L more than talking about them with people like Matsuda. That’s all, to be honest.

”There’s no need. Either Watari or your father is probably watching us on the cameras right now. Yet, I do believe a small issue such as vomiting shouldn’t stop me on working on the Kira investigation - Kira would want me to take a break, he would want this advantage.”

”Ryuzaki, do you even hear yourself? For starters, you cried, which I didn’t know you were even capable of. And, secondly, I’m not Kira. How many times do you have to tell you!”

“Just like any other person, I am capable of crying, Light. I dont understand why that is such a shock to you.”

“It’s just, I don’t know, unexpected. That’s all.”

L pulled out his work laptop. He kept it with him at his nightstand, so it’s easily accessible. He did this for occasions such as when Light was insisting on going to bed, so that L could still continue with his work. No, he wasn’t a workaholic. He was just determined to solve the case. “I will get some work done, regardless of what you want.”

Light groaned, this guy was crazy. “Whatever. If you feel the urge to vomit once more, that isn’t my problem.”
