Work Text:
Furuya doesn't know what he did in his past life to suffer this way. But he's absolutely blaming Akai Shuichi for it.
it started at a peaceful Monday where the detective boys visited the poirot café asking for a freezed cake, with okiya subaru.
The head of his problems, he's one hundred percent sure it's Akai in disguise.
" Okiya subaru" Amuro said tone sharp
" amuro-kun" okiya respond with his quite annoying voice.
the detective boys looked back and forth between them.
Until Ayumi said something Amuro didn't quite hear her but he thinks she said something related to " him and okiya acting like her parents when they fight"
but he's pretty sure he heard her wrong?
Why would she compare them to her parents not until Mitsuhiko added " yeah arguing is pretty normal in relationships especially if it's a long time relationship."
Huh?
HUH??
Amuro pointed at himself and then okiya "us?" He finally get himself to talk.
The detective boys looked at him, Conan holding back his laugh knowing the truth behind their relation.
" Ayumi-chan, It’s a bit rude to assume that two people are in a relationship.” Akai (Subaru) said smiling, not denying it
" we're not together!" Amuro says firmly.
It didn't stop there.
Actually it was the start.
—————————————
It was the Kudōs next.
After Furuya broke into their house to talk to Akai —gun involved, obviously—they sat him down for tea.
Which was… strange.
Who invites a random person into their living room after he breaks in and threatens someone who lives there?
once Furuya found out they were related to Conan, it started to make a disturbing amount of sense.
" No sugar as usual?" Akai says
Furuya KNOWS he's just pissing him off by pretending to know he's sugar habits he nods anyways.
" Aww you're a very cute couple" Yukiko spoke, Furuya silently wishes she was mute.
Did she like forget the whole gun thing?
Or is it normal in their family to point guns at each other!
" We're not a couple." Furuya corrects again for the second time this week, kinda disturbing.
" Really? You would be such a great one" now yusaku says supporting his wife
" No we would not." Furuya says
" i think we would" Akai says with his annoying -having fun- tone
" your not helping!" Furuya yelled
" Oh I see." Yusaku says vaguely
Furuya doesn't know what he sees?
They change the subject finally.
———————————
vermouth.
She was the worst one.
She didn't ask, she just smiled her usual secretive smile
" you know, no one thinks about their ' enemy' that much" she once dropped when Bourbon was talking about how bad he wants to kill Rye
he went silent waiting for her to say something else to clarify what she meant.
" Come on we all know that you guys used to hook up before he turned out to be a traitor" she said while Bourbon started the car chasing after their prey
" you better not betray me for that sniper, Bourbon" she added.
———————————
Furuya couldn't believe that everyone knew before he did!
How could this even happen?
He thought, now he knows the truth behind hiro's death, knowing that big oaf wanted just to protect him from the truth he started accepting him as an alley to defeat the organization.
He still hates him tho.
Well hate is a strong word.
Knowing that he didn't kill Scotch doesn't change the fact that he have a terrible personality.
The problem that the idiot thinks that now after Furuya knew the truth they could be friends.
He keeps coming to the café ordering his stupid dark coffee with no sugar.
Amuro makes him a tea with milk on purpose.
And he doesn't leave until the closing time.
Azusa seemed to like him well enough not to complain.
He brought his laptop, pretend he had work to do in his college stuff.
Amuro knew it was bullshit.
He couldn't do anything about it.
The strangest part?
His fan girls stopped asking for his number.
That alone should have terrified him.
He found out why when he overheard them whispering.
“Yeah, hey’re totally dating.”
“I’ve seen them in the same car multiple times!”
“He never leaves until Amuro-san does. He waits for him every day!”
That was it.
Amuro. Furuya. Bourbon. He couldn’t take it anymore.
He will put an end to this.
" We need to talk." Furuya said once he closed and found AKai waiting for him outside again.
"Akai, your presence is actively sabotaging my intelligence gathering. The neighbors think we’re domestic, the Detective Boys think we’re 'parents,' and my regular customers are grieving their chances with me. If the Organization hears these rumors, they won’t think 'romance'—they’ll think 'conspiracy.' You are a security risk. Stay at least five hundred meters away from Poirot."
He leaned against his car, pulled a cigarette, and said smiling, "But I thought the tea-with-milk was a peace offering, Furuya-kun."
"Stop smiling! That 'Okiya' squint doesn't hide the fact that you're enjoying this! I am an elite officer of the National Police Agency, not your 'plus-one' for Kudo family dinners. If I hear one more person mention a 'long-term relationship,' I’m going to make sure your death isn't faked the second time around. Clear?" Furuya said way more angry
A calm, devastating observation. Akai adds "You've corrected them six times this week. For a top-tier spy, you're making a lot of noise about something that 'doesn't matter.'"
"this is ridiculous! Even Vermouth thinks we used to hook up! Why would I ever date a man who can’t even make a decent curry and spends all his time lurking in a turtleneck? I have standards, Akai! And those standards do not involve a stubborn FBI agent who doesn't know when to leave a café!"
Akai catches the slip-up immediately. "So... you've thought about your standards in relation to me? That’s progress."
"Here is the deal. You go back to the Kudo house. You drink your expensive bourbon alone. You stop coming to Poirot during my shifts. If you need to relay information about the Organization, use the encrypted channels—not 'vague lingering' until closing time. I’m not your boyfriend, and I’m definitely not your friend." Furuya says after he calmed down
" I understand. But Azusa-san mentioned you’re making a special batch of sandwiches tomorrow. It would be a waste if I didn't show up." Akai said throwing his cigarettes down, crushing them underfoot.
" I'm going to fucking kill you if you ever show up to my café ever again. Is this clear enough ?" Furuya said
" but you always show up to my house uninvited and i never complain about it "
Furuya do not respond.
" Listen furuya-kun I've always wanted to tell you after we end the organization, but this is taking way longer then expected, and you can't take a hint for your Godman life, i like you, i might even be in love with you, i enjoy spending time with you. I'm not leaving the café." Akai said.
Furuya froze.
The witty retort, the threat of arrest, the lecture on national security—it all died in his throat. He stared at Akai, looking for the tell-tale sign of a lie in those green eyes, but he found nothing but a terrifyingly calm sincerity.
"You..." Furuya’s voice cracked.
He took a step back, his hand dropping from the door handle.
"You’re insane. You’ve finally lost your mind." "Don't say that," Furuya hissed, his heart suddenly hammering against his ribs in a way that had nothing to do with anger.
"Don't you dare say something like that just to win an argument! It’s low, even for you, Akai!" He waited for Akai to laugh, to tell him it was a joke.
But Akai just stood there, the scent of tobacco and winter air clinging to him, waiting for Furuya to catch up to the reality everyone else had seen weeks ago.
Furuya’s face went through three different shades of red before settling on a pale, stunned mask. "I have a shift at 7:00 AM," Furuya blurted out, the most nonsensical thing he could think of.
"I have to... I have to prep the flour."
" Listen I'm not asking you for an answer , i just wanted you to know the truth. Can't wait to eat the sandwich tomorrow"
He turned around and fumbled with his keys to Open his car, his fingers shaking so badly he could barely fit the key into the lock.
He was the best spy in Japan, and he couldn't even open a door because of one sentence from a man he was supposed to hate.
