Work Text:
It was a beautiful day in Smiling valley, and Molly whiskers was happy, getting ready for her date with Lacey Ladybird.
She could still hardly believe that she would be so lucky, to actually manage to get a date with the most beautiful girl in all of the smiling and nightmare critters.
‘I hope tonight goes well…’
She says, putting her favorite red hairclip shaped like a giant flower behind her ear.
‘I really like her…’
Once she was ready, she took her purse and went outside, walking over to the train station.
~Train transition~
In the city of Poppyton, Lacey ladybird was standing under a streetlight, waiting for her mouse friend at the spot where they’d planned to meet up.
‘Where is she?’
She thinks, looking at her Tiffany hard wear watch. ‘I thought she’d be here by now…’
She growls a little.
‘She better not have stood me up…’
But then, she hears Molly’s voice, her heart-shaped antennae twitching.
“Lacey!”
She looks over, seeing her and smiling.
“Well there you are.”
She says, turning to her. “About time you showed up.”
Lacey giggles. “I was starting to think you’d cancelled on me.”
Molly looks a bit guilty, holding her arm.
“Sorry, I couldn’t find my hairclip.” She says. “But I'd never cancel on you without at least calling first.”
Lacey smiles. “Good to know.”
She says. “You look exquisite.”
Molly blushes. “O-oh, thank you!”
She says, smiling. “So do you!”
Lacey smiles, fluffing herself. “Naturally.”
She offers her arm. “So, are you ready?”
Molly gingerly takes it. “Yes.”
Lacey smiles, leading her over to a nearby building, with a hanging street sign that said “Cafe del fancie”.
Molly smiles.
“Ooh, what a classy place.” she says. “You come here often?”
Lacey nods. “I come here almost every other week.” She says. “Their food is just to die for.”
Molly is excited, “Awesome.”
The two walk in, waiting a bit before being seated.
“Good evening, ladies.”
The waitress says. “Can I start you two off with a couple of drinks?”
Lacey nods. “I think I'll have a cosmopolitan, how about you, Moll?”
Molly smiles. “I’ll have an iced tea.”
The waitress writes it down. “Sweet or unsweet?”
Molly giggles. “Sweet please.”
The waitress nods. “Alright, I'll have those out for you in a bit.”
While she was gone, Molly looked over at Lacey.
“So… what do you like to do for fun besides gardening?’
She asks.
Lacey smiles. “Well, I just love dressing up and modeling.” She says. “It’s a bit cliche to say, but fashion is my passion.”
Molly giggles. “Cool.”
She says. “I love listening to music and making sketches for houses I wanna design.”
Lacey’s eyes widened a bit. “Oooh, you design houses?”
Molly shrugs. “Occasionally.” She says. “It’s a hobby of mine.”
Lacey smiles. “Interesting.”
The waitress brings them their drinks, setting them down on the table.
“Alright, what can I get you lovely ladies to eat?”
They both looked at the menu.
“I think I'll have a large-leaf salad with lemon aioli.”
Lacey says. “What about you, Molly?”
Molly thinks.
“I’ll have the 3 cheese pasta with garlic bread.”
The waitress smiles.
“Alright, I'll have those out for you in just a few moments.”
She says, taking the menus and walking away.
“So, what else do you like to do for fun besides designing houses?”
Lacey asks.
Molly thinks for a bit.
“Well, I like reading, and dancing to music, baking, and occasionally doing science.”
She says.
“Interesting.”
Lacey says. “What kind of things do you like to bake?”
Molly shrugs.
“Well, I mostly just focus on small things.”
She says. “I make bear claws, Danishes, croissants, stuff like that.”
Lacey licks her lips. “Yum.” She says. “I love chocolate and cherry filled croissants.”
Molly smiles.
“I could make you some sometime if you wanted.”
Lacey smiles warmly.
“I’d like that.”
After the girls had been given their food and started to eat, Molly notices Lacey’s watch.
“That’s a very pretty watch.”
She says. “Where’d you get it?”
“Oh, thank you!”
Molly says, showing her.
“It’s a Tiffany hard wear.”
Molly’s eyes widened.
To her knowledge, that was one of the most expensive watches that money could buy.
“Impressive.”
Lacey giggles. “Thanks.”
She then notices Molly eating.
“So, parmesan pasta, huh?” She says.
“That a favorite of yours?”
Molly nods. “I mean I love cheese.”
Lacey giggles. “Fair.”
The two continued their lunch for the next 20 minutes or so, smiling and talking about whatever.
~watch transition~
After their lovely meal, they decide to go for a short walk in the nearby park, holding hands.
Molly was less nervous than she’d been earlier.
“So, Lacey, do you like nature?”
She asks her.
Lacey nods. “Indeed.”
She says. “I love seeing pretty trees, and mountains, and rivers, and all that jazz.”
“I just love flowers…”
Lacey says, using her free hand to gently stroke a petal on a nearby rose bush.
“I believe people are like flowers… every one is unique.”
“Really?”
Molly says. “Well… what flower am I?”
Lacey looks at her, thinking for a minute.
“I’d say you are a water lily.”
She says. “Maybe an Egyptian lotus.”
Molly’s eyes go wide. “Woah, really?”
Lacey nods.
“Yes, pure and innocent, but mysterious and rare.”
Molly blushes.
“Wow… that’s flattering.”
Lacey giggles.
“Well, you know.” She says, gently petting Molly’s shoulder. “It makes sense.”
Molly smiles.
“And you are a beautiful glistening rose.”
Lacey smirks, blushing.
“Obviously.”
The two walk a bit more, Molly scooting closer.
“So, how’d you get into modeling?”
Lacey shrugs.
“I just like looking pretty and wearing pretty clothes, and when they called and asked if I wanted to do my first fashion show, I jumped at the opportunity."
She giggles. “And look at me now.”
Molly smiles. “Well it’s good that you achieved your dream.”
Lacey nods. “Certainly.”
When the two got a bit tired, they took a break to sit and rest on a nearby bench.
Molly gets a bit nervous.
“Uh… thanks again for agreeing to go out with me.” She says.
Lacey smiles. “Certainly.” She says. “I mean who could say no to a cutie like you?”
Molly blushes, scooting closer.
“I admit… I was kinda nervous.”
She says.
Lacey gently puts an arm around her waist. “I mean, that’s to be expected, but you don’t have to be nervous around me.”
Molly smiles.
“Thanks Lacey.” She says. “You’re the best.”
Lacey giggles. “Thanks for noticing, hun.”
They spend a few quiet moments together, just enjoying the silence.
Molly then glances over to her.
“Lacey?”
Lacey looks at her. “Hm?”
Molly blushes, looking away.
“Uh… I know it’s only our first date, so it might be a little early to ask, but…”
Lacey blushes and smirks, she already knew what Molly was getting at.
Molly squeezes her eyes shut.
“C-can I, I-I mean can we… n-no I mean, would you like to- oh geez…”
Lacey sighs, gently leaning over and taking Molly’s face in her hands, making her turn even redder.
Molly’s breath hitches as Lacey looks deeply into her eyes.
“You don’t even have to ask, Sugar.”
Lacey says before kissing her.
Molly was stunned for like a solid 30 seconds before she finally gave in, closing her eyes and melting into the kiss, wrapping her arms gently around Lacey’s waist, pulling her closer.
The moment was blissful, and tasted like the cosmopolitan Lacey had been drinking.
When they finally pulled back, Molly’s entire mouth was coated in Lacey’s red, shiny lipstick, and she looked utterly dazed.
Lacey giggles: “you okay, hun?”
Molly’s eye
“I-I'll get back to you on that…”
She wheezes.
Lacey giggles.
And so, the two ladies spent the rest of the day together, just enjoying each other’s company.
And Molly felt like the luckiest girl in the world.
