Work Text:
It has been months since Ajax and Diluc entered the talking stage. And in these past few months, they have learned a lot about each other like how Ajax sings exactly two three-minute-long songs in the shower to manage his shower duration or how the latter keeps hoards of sunscreen because his skin is extra sensitive for some reason. However, months of knowing a person is not enough to know everything about them. Needless to say, they have a myriad of secrets that are not meant to be shared. But because this is a new era, one of them decides there is no harm in telling the other his secret.
Today is one of those rare perfect mornings, for people like Diluc at least, cloudy with just about the perfect amount of sunlight. On days like these, Diluc has nothing else he wishes to do but have a picnic in a secluded area—to have all the peace he needs—all the while sipping on his drink of choice, what is known to Ajax as red grape juice. These are the kinds of days he cherishes as he can bask in the sunlight for as long as the skies permit. Besides, it is also one of the rare days he manages to get out of bed this early.
Diluc has just gotten out of the shower when a tone buzzes from his phone. A new message. He takes the phone in his free hand and dries his hair with a towel in the other.
Ajax
07:28 AM
Ajax: hey ik this is kinda weird but hear me out
Ajax: we’ve known each other for awhile now so i think it’s about time u know about this
Ajax: pls dont get weirded out
Ajax: i think vampires are real
Maybe telling Ajax his secret is not as difficult as he initially imagined.
Ajax: but because vampires are nocturnal creatures, it is superr rare for us to encounter vampires so it’s alright if you dont believe me
Or maybe it is.
On this otherwise perfect day, Diluc learns of Ajax's obsession with vampires.
Over a basket of homemade snacks to munch on in courtesy of Diluc and a bottle of red wine, Diluc and his… companion, for the lack of a better term, have a picnic in an open area in the woods. Secluded and far from civilization, very perfect for Diluc’s search for serenity and isolation—although there is not much to isolate from for Diluc’s tendency to be the “lone wolf” despite being a vampire and their race’s longstanding feud with wolves. It is quite the view with full-grown trees towering over them. The air is fresh and it relaxes every bit of muscle in the body. Ajax is quite curious as to how Diluc found such a place but does not pry. It would be a good idea to bring Diluc here at night too, he thinks.
There is an air of silence that clouds over the two, a comfortable one, until one of them breaks it.
“So, Diluc,” Ajax calls for Diluc’s attention after a bite of his sandwich. “Let’s say vampires are real.” Diluc stills. “In a completely hypothetical situation, let’s say, a vampire wants to suck out your blood. Would you let them?”
“No,” is Diluc’s abrupt reply without a pause to debate his thoughts. “Can’t we talk about my day or something?”
“Why not?” Ajax looks a bit disappointed, so Diluc sighs, deciding to humor the man a bit. “Come on, don’t you think it would be sexy? I think blood is sexy. But having a vampire drink your blood is even sexier.”
Pardon his language, but god forbid, what the fuck.
First of all, there is nothing sexy in blood-drinking, even Diluc stopped drinking human blood after several centuries. He is as humane as a person who does not find it arousing to have a body count as high as a serial killer’s. Second, what a wonder Ajax truly is. How exactly does his mind work? What was the thought process? What has the internet been feeding this boy? A bunch of bullshit? Finally, if you have not realized it yet, yes, Diluc is a vampire. It would be extremely inappropriate for him to exercise cannibalism over his fellow vampires or to let other vampires exercise cannibalism on him.
A face of disgust must have fallen over Diluc’s face because Ajax checks up on him with worry. He apologizes, but Diluc stops him, saying he did nothing wrong. Diluc second-guesses his decision to humor him but continues anyway.
The day ends and so does their day off from work. Busy creatures they are as days go by without seeing each other. Thank the humans for inventing technology—with the help of Diluc’s ancestry of course but do not even think of telling the humans that—their feelings of longing are not as bad now.

He’s onto something…
"I have a new theory." Ajax starts one day when the two of them find time to see each other once again.
Diluc looks at his now-lover, amused. "Let's hear it then."
"I think vampires theoretically have small dicks." Ajax states with the straightest face ever (spoiler: he is not straight).
Diluc hums, disappointed but not surprised. The suggestion intrigues him but not nearly as much as the one who suggested it. He acts like he is mulling over the thought, as though he is coming up with his own theories to explain the vampires-have-small-dicks phenomenon.
Diluc, however, is far from small. He is quite hung, actually. The author has 501 sources to prove this point.
"I see." Diluc puts a hand over his chin, feigning incredulity but genuinely curious. "I've never heard this one before. Why do you think such, Ajax?"
Ajax beams at him, excited. "I knew you'd understand, Diluc. This is why I love you."
With a peck on the lips, Diluc returns the affection. "And I love you too."
"Well, here's the thing," Ajax clears his throat, and Diluc knows it is going to be a long explanation—and he is here to listen to it all.
"I found this book that implies vampires have this fluid in their system—take note this fluid is like venom. The book says that it works as a lubricant between the cells in the absence of blood." Ajax subconsciously leans into Diluc's proximity while talking as the latter takes in every word he says.
Diluc hums again, letting Ajax know he has his attention. "What is this book called?"
"The Bible." Ajax answers and continues. "This fluid is highly flammable, too. Basically, if a vampire were to have sex, they'd have a really hot one, literally..."
Diluc nods his head and thinks. He has not lit a fire without the conventional flint and steel nor a matchstick before. Lighters work too, but not his dick.
"This suggests that all vampires today are either virgins," Ajax pauses for emphasis. "Or have small enough dicks to not light fire from the friction. Well, there could still be vampires with big dicks today, but they're bound to cease from existence due to natural selection."
All these points of Ajax are none of Diluc's qualities. Therefore, they are inaccurate.
"That is an interesting take on this, Ajax." He sees the smile grow on Ajax's lips. "I'm impressed."
"You believe me, right?" Ajax laughs then, a beautiful sound it is. "I'm a genius! If only there were a vampire biology course in my university."
Ajax finds himself in a place not quite known to him but feels vaguely familiar. He does not recognize his surroundings at all. One moment, he is texting his man good night, then the next, he is in the middle of nowhere. Everything is a blur when suddenly, a man is standing in front of him.
“So you’re telling me you’re a vampire?” A voice, his voice, comes out of him.
“...Yes.” The man eerily resembling that of his lover replies.
“Could you please suck my blood?” It is as if he has no control of his body nor his voice. His thoughts are erratic, subconsciously blurting out the first thing that comes to mind
“Ajax, do you have a death wish?” Diluc's brows are furrowed. He seems furious, yet no malice can be heard from his tone. Instead, there is a hint of concern.
“Not really, but if it means granting my fantasy and death wish at the same time then isn’t that like hitting two birds with one stone?” If his dream self has an established character, then so be it.
A chair appears out of thin air, and Diluc seats himself on it. He leans toward the now somehow-seated Ajax, his hand cupping over Ajax's face. “Is it okay at home?" Ajax swears to the stars he is to protect this man at all costs. What exactly did he do in his previous life to deserve such a man? "Do you wish to talk about it?"
“Am I actually going to die when you suck my blood?” Dream-Ajax evades Diluc’s concern, which makes Diluc even more concerned later on when he recalls their conversation.
“No… And that’s an if, not a when, Ajax.” Diluc makes a face at Dream-Ajax’s disappointed sigh. “But you’re anemic, Ajax. Besides, I stopped drinking human blood 360 years ago. What makes you think I’d drink yours, of all people, after so long?”
Ajax stares into the distance, thinking about Diluc’s words carefully. “But I look good. So my blood should taste good, right?” Whatever he is saying does not make any sense to him, but as much as Ajax denies it, they sound exactly like things he would actually say.
“I don’t know, Ajax." Diluc moves his hand to brush over his lover's hair. "Looking good and looking healthy are far different from each other.”
"So if I work hard enough, you can drink my blood then?" Ajax challenges.
“Wait a minute.” Ajax’s face twists, turning to fully face the man seated in front of him as though he were in a therapy session with an inhumanely handsome therapist. “So, you’re telling that you would drink human blood after whatever-hundred years if it’s not mine?”
Defeatedly, Diluc sighs. “That was not what I implied.”
“No, no, there’s a lot to unpack here.” Diluc’s groan of disagreement goes unheard. “You just told me, right in my face, that you’re willing to pounce onto somebody and bite at their neck. That’s what you just told me.”
Diluc stares into the distance as far as the dreamspace would allow. Clearly, Ajax’s line of reasoning is as straight as he is.
Diluc wraps his arms tighter around Ajax’s face, all the while peppering kisses from his lover’s jaw up to his ear before resigning to burying his face against Ajax’s neck. He can smell his own perfume on Ajax, it must have rubbed off on him due to the amount of times they have spent together throughout the day. Ajax blinks then, realizing that the scene before was but a dream. He sighs from the shower of affection, closing his eyes as he relishes in Diluc’s love.
Ajax sits on Diluc’s strong lap, comfortably leaning all of his weight as insisted by the latter. He has his back against him, hands full with paperwork. Diluc knows the feeling of getting drowned in an ocean of work piles, so he knows the places that ache. He moves again from his spot on Ajax’s neck, now moving towards Ajax’s exposed shoulder blades. He feels the urge to bite, to get a taste of his lover’s scrumptious blood—he pauses. When he realizes what he is about to do, Diluc buries his face against Ajax’s nape, subconsciously heaving a deep sigh.
“Diluc?” His lover calls him, voice so tender. “You know I'd let you do it, you know.”
Diluc is fully aware but stays frozen in place. He feigns his bafflement and asks, “Whatever do you mean by that, Ajax?”
Diluc feels his lover’s chest vibrate in a rhythm that matches the chuckle his ears perceive. Ajax turns his face, just the slightest bit to see Diluc’s face. He stares into the man’s eyes before trailing his gaze into the man’s lips. Ajax gives Diluc a peck that the latter would later deny he chases when he backs away. They share another kiss, this time seconds longer.
When they part, Ajax looks him in the eye one more time. “What I'm saying is that,” he places a hand against Diluc’s face, caressing the wrinkles forming between his brows and tracing the scars that adorn his most perfect face. “You may drink my blood, Mr. Diluc. That is if you want to, of course.”
This time, Diluc is genuinely bewildered. Ajax does not miss the way his eyes widen for a fragment of a second or the way he licks his lips, a sign that Diluc is flustered or at a loss for words. “What do you mean? What? You… you know?”
“For your information, I’m not as stupid as you think, Diluc.” Ajax rolls his eyes. When his eyes meet back with Diluc’s, they find that the man in front of him does not buy what he says. Not one bit. “Fine. You got me. I just recently found out, okay? It came to me in a dream of some sort.”
“You have dreams of me?” Diluc queries. His head tilts to the side, and Ajax finds it so endearing.
Ajax clears his throat, feeling a bit shy from exposing himself to his lover. “I… well yes, but of course!” he finds himself an excuse. “This particular one was odd though. You were a vampire in it, and when I woke up, that’s when I finally pieced things up together. Why didn’t you tell me right away?”
Diluc sighs, looking for words. His eyes search the floor, tongue wetting his drying lips. “I didn’t know how exactly to tell you. I apologize.”
Ajax shakes his head, playing with the curls of crimson locked in a high ponytail that he himself tied for his lover beforehand. “It’s quite alright. I understand the weight of this secret. I’m sorry, too, for not giving you an opportunity to tell me.”
Diluc hums, implying he does not mind it one bit. Silence ensues between the two, a comfortable one.
“So when are you going to suck my blood?” Of course, it is Ajax that breaks it.
“Do you really want me to?” Diluc asks, a brow raised.
Ajax looks into Diluc’s eyes and replies not even a breath later, “I do.”
“It makes sense that you're a vampire.” Ajax looks down, playing with crimson curls as Diluc lays on his lap. Diluc hums in response, opening his eyes to look at his lover.
“I mean, you’re pretty lanky. Fits right into the definition of a vampire.” Diluc takes offense to his statement.
“Aren’t you being a bit stereotypical, Ajax?” Diluc shuts his eyes once more to focus on calming himself. “Besides, I’m pretty muscular if I do say so myself.” He huffs in defense.
“Yeah, I’ll give you that.” Ajax traces constellations from mole to mole along the muscles on Diluc’s bicep, rubbing circles onto bare skin that sends shivers down Diluc’s spine. “I take it back. I guess you are pretty big.”
The shock in Diluc’s face is lost as mirth replaces it not sooner than later. A gust of wind blows just then, ruffling Ajax’s hair and blocking his face with it. Diluc reaches his hand to Ajax’s face to tuck the stray strands of hair into his ear. His hand remains on Ajax’s cheek long after, and Ajax nuzzles his face onto the warmth, pouring his affections as though he did not just say the most absurd thing ever.
A smirk then finds its way on Diluc’s stunning lips. “So you agree that your vampire biology facts were wrong, huh?”
Ajax rolls his eyes at that. “I don’t know. For all I know, you could be an exception, a genetic mutation, an evolutionary adaptation. An outlier!”
Diluc laughs, a sound that reverberates and goes straight into Ajax’s dick.
“Hey…” Ajax begins, taking Diluc’s hand into his.
“Seriously?” Diluc is all but angry, having not inherited the trait from his vampire ancestors that enables him to get mad at such an adorable man—if you could even call an almost six-foot-tall block of flesh adorable.
“Oh, come on.” Ajax exasperates. “I’m not the vampire between the two of us, but I wanna suck you off.”
