Work Text:
Jakob was sitting on his couch in front of the TV. Less than an hour earlier he had taken a shower and it had made him so relaxed that he was close to falling asleep. One quick glance at his phone told him that it was only 4 pm. There was no way he could be going to bed this early in the day, not even to take a nap. But his eyes were half-lidded and persistently attempting to close.
A sudden, unexpected knock on the door pulled him halfway out of his daze. He flinched violently, his body jolting forward until he caught himself. Confused about the intrusion, he pushed himself up on his feet and started making his way to the door. His feet shuffled against the floor as he didn't even lift them up properly. If anyone was to ask him, he'd just deny being almost asleep on his couch.
As he opened the door, he was greeted by Kevin's familiar face.
"Kevin? What are you doing here?"
Jakob couldn't help but wonder, a hazy look still in his eyes.
"I just thought I'd stop by to see you. I brought two pizzas and a box of Domino cookies."
Only then did Jakob really notice the pizza boxes Kevin was holding. The cookies had been placed on top with great care. Jakob was still trying to form a clear enough response when Kevin spoke again, beating him to it:
"Jakob, are you okay? You look like I woke you up."
Jakob blinked, his mind perfectly drawing a blank. The truth is that he was a really bad liar.
"Uh.."
he mumbled and ran a hand through his still slightly damp hair.
"I took a shower.. Seems like it made me really drowsy.."
he then gave an honest explanation and finally stepped aside to let Kevin in.
"I wasn't quite asleep yet, but I think I was getting there.. It's good that you showed up when you did."
Kevin made his way into the kitchen, with Jakob following close behind. He was planning on offering a hand to his friend, but it didn't really look like Kevin needed help.
"We can also go sit and eat on the couch if you want.."
he only suggested, instead. This gave Kevin a reason to turn and face him again.
"Are you sure you won't be asleep in minutes if we do that?"
he asked, cocking an eyebrow. That made Jakob consider the very likely possibility of that happening.
"You may be right.."
he sighed.
"Maybe we just stay here."
With that decided, they both sat down on the kitchen chairs which were arguably much more uncomfortable than the couch in the living room. A couch that was calling out to Jakob who, in turn, did his best to ignore it. Instead he opened the pizza box and picked up the first slice.
"Hey. Kevin.."
"Mm?"
"What gave you the idea to go order pizza and then come see me?"
Jakob had to ask only a number of seconds later, with his mouth already nearly full. Despite of this, Kevin was still able to understand what he was saying.
"I'm not sure,"
he admitted after making sure to chew properly and swallowing.
"It just felt like a good idea. And I knew that you're at home, so.."
Jakob nodded at this, with a bright smile.
"I'm glad you came. This is much better than wasting the afternoon being asleep on the couch."
