Chapter 1: Day 1: A sister’s love

Chapter Text

Findis had traveled to Tol Eressëa. News had reached them that Morgoth had fallen. The exile of the Noldor was lifted. Ñolo had returned from the halls of Mandos, speaking of his great deeds.
Findis had listened, but her little brother did not impress her with leading their people across the Helcaraxe. She secretly thought he should’ve returned when their stupid older brother abandoned them. It was only Ñolo’s pride that caused him to continue to Middle-earth.
She was not even impressed when he told of dueling Morgoth. He may have permanently wounded the Vala, but he died in the attempt. None of it mattered.
The reason it didn’t matter was he had no clue what had happened to their little sister, Lalwen. She had idolised Ñolo. Even as an elfling she followed him everywhere. So of course she had followed him, when the Noldor took Flight. Or course she followed him across the Helcaraxe.
Ñolo could only say that she made it safely to Middle-earth. After that he had sort of lost track of her. Artanis had spoken for her when the Sindarin king evicted all, but his kin, from his realm. Ñolo knew that she had stayed in Doriath, but knew nothing else of her fate. All he could say, was he did not see her in the halls.
Which was why Findis had come to see the returning boats. There were so many returning, that news had not reached them of the names. So Findis had gone herself, to see if her baby sister was returning as well. She needed to know if Lalwen had survived, or if her brother’s lack of care meant he deserved the ear pinching she gave him. He rather deserved it anyway, just for losing her.
But to not know if Lalwen would come back. Even if she could come back? That was a burden to add to Findis’ already extensive grief. She waited as the boats arrived and docked. She watched every face; studied every reunion in the absolute hope that Lalwen would be there.
She waited until she was alone. No Lalwen today. No little Írimë to shout at her for using that hated name.
No head-strong, wonderful sister to be reunited with. Findis checked her tears. Her baby sister’s fate was still unknown.
Still this was just the first lot of boats to arrive. A kinder elf told her there would be many more. She would wait for every single one of them. And, if it became clear what Lalwen’s fate was. If she knew, without a doubt that her sister was within Mandos’ halls, then she would hammer down the door until he returned her little sister to Valinor.
