The idea of a school dance to boost student morale wasn’t the best one. In fact, Shouta Aizawa thought it was a terrible idea. In case of a villain attack, no one would be prepared. All of the pro-heroes would be dressed up playing chaperone. It was a risky facade of normalcy that Aizawa wanted no part in.
Here he was, hair slicked back, suit on, sitting in a chair at said facade. Aizawa wished that he could just sleep, but the pro heroes were expected to be on high alert just in case. Looking around the dance, he noticed that he wasn’t the only pro slacking off.
Toshinori Yagi, the symbol of peace himself, was standing off to the side engaging in small talk with Ms. Midoriya. Everyone knew that they were interested in each other. The latter had insisted on being a chaperone, claiming that it was the least she could do to protect her son. Normally civilians wouldn’t be allowed to do something like that, but she certainly has a way with words.
All of the event preparation came from within the school. Lunch Rush had provided the food, other teachers helped decorate, and Present Mic was the DJ. With the exception of the traitor amongst them, the event was extremely secure. Aizawa still doubted the safety and necessity of the dance.
He settled for just watching his boyfriend at the stage. Hizashi was a natural when it came to music. It wasn’t something Aizawa particularly cared for, but who was he to ignore potential? Hizashi looked like he was having fun, even more than when he was at the studio for his radio show.
Aizawa took a break from gazing at his boyfriend to give the students a once over. He only really paid attention to class 1-A, since he was most familiar with those students. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Bakugou was holding himself together even better than expected. The staff had discreetly made bets about how long it would take for the boy to start blowing things up. Aizawa had already lost.
Midoriya’s group of friends stuck very closely to All Might. Midoriya’s mother and Yagi didn’t seem to mind at all, but it just seemed a bit strange. Aizawa wondered if the boy’s intense hero worship was rubbing off on the rest of the class.
Once he had confirmed that nothing dangerous was happening, Aizawa returned his attention to Hizashi. His boyfriend wasn’t the most cleaned up, it was likely that he was trying to keep the appearance of a DJ. Hizashi’s hair was still gelled up as usual. Aizawa didn’t care that much about Hizashi’s hair, but still enjoyed being able to see it down occasionally when most people didn’t get the opportunity. The suit Hizashi was wearing was just as flashy, if not more than his usual leather attire. As the pro heroes weren’t allowed to wear their hero gear, he could see Hizashi’s neck. It wasn’t uncommon for Aizawa to see, but in public it was.
Hizashi made eye contact with him and then took the microphone, which was turned off for everyone’s safety, and announced that he would be playing a slow song. Of course Midnight had to make the comment about leaving space in between dance partners. Aizawa was too focused on the irony to notice that Hizashi had walked over to him.
“Shouta, dance with me,” Hizashi said, most likely loud enough for everyone in the room to hear. Aizawa had been trying to keep their relationship hidden from their students, but now there wasn’t really a point. It was a minor inconvenience, but nothing to be mad over.
He obliged without saying anything. Standing, he put one hand in Hizashi’s and the other on his shoulder. It was somewhat embarrassing to slow dance in front of your own students. He knew the kids would probably bombarde them with questions. He knew that they would most likely be all over social media.
Aizawa couldn’t say no to Hizashi though. He didn’t even really like dancing, but something compelled him. Maybe it was the way Hizashi had asked or the flashy suit he was wearing.
The dance was a new form of intimacy. Despite Midnight’s warning directed at the students, the pair didn’t leave much space between each other. Aizawa even removed Hizashi’s glasses midway through so he could look into his eyes. He could feel the students staring at him, but Aizawa was confident that he could brush them off during class.
It was over just as soon as it began. Aizawa returned Hizashi’s glasses as the other walked back to the stage. He slacked off the rest of the evening, preferring to spend time staring at his boyfriend, missing the closeness of their dance.
There was no villain attack. Bakugou only blew up once at approximately 8:45pm, meaning that Cementoss had won the bet. Todoroki spent the entire evening standing in a corner. Yagi’s entourage eventually moved away, giving him more time to speak to Ms. Midoriya. The dance was a complete success on all fronts, unless you lost the bet over Bakugou.
In the meeting held immediately after the dance, Aizawa admitted that he was wrong. Nearly everyone in the room seemed shocked, as it was unusual for Aizawa to do so. Present Mic, on the other hand, couldn’t hold back his grin. He knew exactly why Shouta wasn’t being as stubborn as usual.
The other staff members soon caught on and insisted that Aizawa help out if any other school dances happen. He agreed, somewhat reluctantly. Aizawa wasn’t in the mood to argue or accuse his coworkers. He really just wanted to go home and dance with his boyfriend.
