I am speaking to you all to hold myself accountable, and not to make excuses. The word I said was disgusting, and I understand why Troy reacted the way he did. He was disgusted. A lot of hateful phrases do not get challenged and they help create a hockey world that is intolerant and hate filled. I do not want this, but today I was part of it and I am very sorry. I promise to make sure I understand what the words I am saying mean before I say them, and this will not happen again. I am sorry to my team mates, and to our fans.

While it brings me great delight to see Rozanov looking this uncomfortable, as the only out player I need to say: there are very very few players who have been as kind to me since coming out as he has. He’s had my back the whole time, he’s checked in on me after bad interactions, he’s offered support whenever things got tough. If anyone would like to claim they suddenly care about homophobia in hockey, I can give you a lot of places to start that aren’t my very accepting and open minded friend. (all this to say, i think he’s just an idiot)
