The Poison Below the Depths

Summary:

But, maybe Kaeya should've looked up Fontaine laws on weapons and gliders before he left, in hindsight. Because if he had, he wouldn't have learned the hard way that unsheathing his sword while gliding was a criminal offense.

Now, he stood in the Opera Epiclese, and waited for the Chief Justice to read his sentence aloud.

-

Wriothesley hadn't had a prisoner that made him this curious in quite a while. Plus, meeting a knight in person would be nice, after reading Owl's complaints on them.

~~
Aka: Kaeya gets sent to the Fortress of Meropide. Wriothesley is confused as to why his fellow informant in the Northern Intelligence Network is so worried about the Calvary Captain. Diluc is not coping well with the fact that Kaeya is in the Fortress, even though he doesn't care about him at all. (He does.)

Oh, and Kaeya gets to solve a murder.

Chapter Text

Diluc sighed as he sat down to write a letter, one that would get copied and sent out across Teyvat after he gave it to his hawk. He dipped his pen in ink, writing the events of the last week or so.

To all,

Recently in Mondstadt, there was a string of murders involving a poisoner. The culprit was caught, but as the Knights were attempting to apprehend them, they got away, and fled to Fontaine, or so the knights believe.

The Calvary Captain, Kaeya, is preparing to go to Fontaine as I write this, and I expect he'll be in Fontaine within the week.

-Owl

Diluc sighed as he listened to the tavern downstairs, hiding in the attic of the Angel's share. He just needed to write this letter before he went back down to the noise and alcohol. He folded up the letter, putting it into an envelope, lighting the sealing wax candle with pyro, letting it drip onto the flap before stamping it. He stood up, tucking the letter inside his vest, opening the door back to the second level of the tavern when he saw Kaeya talking to Rosaria.

Kaeya wasn't drinking much tonight, having only had one Death After Noon, claiming he had to leave the next day early, when Diluc had noticed and asked. Diluc presumed it was to look for the poisoner, who looked as if they were from Fontaine.

He went back down to the bar, serving drinks, but mostly listening in on Kaeya's conversation when he could.

He mentally cursed every time he noticed how much he was paying attention. He didn't need to know any more information. He already knew what Kaeya planned to do.

He didn't care that Kaeya was passing through some of Liyue's darker parts. He didn't care that he was passing through Sumeru.

Diluc didn't care. And that was a fact.

He shut the Angel's Share down early that night, headed back to Dawn Winery, and letting his hawk fly away with his letter just outside the rows of grapevines.

The hawk flew over mountains, hardly resting, as it flew across oceans, to end up in Nod-Krai, where it landed in a certain Curatorium in Nasha Town.

To there it was copied, and sent out to 7 people.

Orchid, in Liyue.

Deer, in Inazuma.

Vulture, in Sumeru.

Rose, in Fontaine.

Warden, in the Fortress of Meropide.

Condor, in Natlan.

Sword, wherever their travels had taken them.

Those, plus Owl and the one who accepted the letter, Ringmaster, were all contacts in the Northern Intelligence Network.

Notes:

Hi, this is yet another story I will TRY to finish I promise. I caught the genshin bug and now I'm hyperfixated. With that said, when Nefer mentioned Diluc being her informant, my braincells started spinning, and this came out of it. I'll make a fic with all the members at some point. With that said, the people and their codenames are:

Nefer - Ringmaster
Wriothesley - Warden
Yelan - Orchid
Heizou - Deer
Alhaitham - Vulture
Diluc - Owl
Navia - Rose
Traveler - Sword
Chasca - Condor
