Work Text:
As the head of the Korblox robotics division, Subspace is always pressed for time. You know this well. He spends most of his time in either his office or his laboratory with you, but there's little time to talk when he's swamped with ideas and projects and—work.
When he remembers you are with him, he talks to you about his new side project. An assistant, he says. The cause of all the schematics and hastily written notes on his desk. He's shown them to you with pride in his voice.
A new model specifically meant to assist him. Gamma Biograft, as is written down.
You respond with well wishes for this project. You're not sure what to do with this information. You have no knowledge that can help your creator. You're not sure if you're helping him at all, period.
He's grown attached to you, somehow. That is a fact.
He rarely lets you go to perform your duties as a Zeta Biograft model. That is also a fact.
It does not help that the last time you went out, you'd been crushed into near deactivation. Now he keeps you with him out of… worry? Paranoia? You're not quite sure. But you have not seen the outside world in a while.
So to hear that he is actively making a model specifically meant to assist him… What were you even here for? Is he replacing you?
Most likely. There's no point in hoping (hoping?) otherwise. Perhaps you will finally be sent off into the frontlines like a normal soldier once Gamma is finished.
(It feels like there is a pressure in your chest, where your power crystal is.)
"Biograft??" Your optics flick over to where your creator stands, hunched over a metal table. His singular eye scans you up and down, as if something is wrong.
"YES, CREATOR?"
"Your fans are on. Is there anything wrong??" You run a quick check to find that, yes, your fans had increased in speed, whirring a little louder than normal. They're back to quiet in a heartbeat, but your creator is still staring.
"NO. I WAS—" A pause. "SIMPLY THINKING."
While clearly skeptical, the answer seems to satisfy Subspace to some degree because he goes back to his work with nothing but a small noise. He'll most likely bring it up again later.
(Still, the pressure in your chest has not disappeared.)
