Eye as blue as the sea

Summary:

Space core loved space. It was their defining trait. A programming error turned this star gazer into an obsessive maniac.

However, when their dreams of literal stardom came true, they discovered how cold space was.

In this emptiness they yearned for home, and found it in their fellow core stranded alongside them.

Notes:

Sorry if this is ooc, this is my first time writing these characters and I’m a little rusty.

I found a video compiling Space core’s lines and at the end had lines of them starting to hate space. While I dunno if this is official, it inspired this fic!

Work Text:

“Spaaace. More spaaace! sPACE SPACE SPACE ITS ALL JUST SPAAAAAAAAAAACE!” An orange eyed core screams in the cold void.

They were programmed as a “space watcher”. A core to, well, watch space. Something about a CEO being scared of satellites recording and stealing info or something.

They were given a full database on everything about space. Colourful nebulas, dangerous blackholes and powerful solar flares.

It all seemed so magical, a place of stars and 0-g. They were so thrilled to finally be there, but that joy turned to confusion.

It was so cold. Too cold. Too quiet. So under stimulating.

Space core turned back to their old home. Earth. The blue planet. They longed to be back on its surface, to watch the deep blue sea, to hear the wind hum and to be blinded by the sun.

“Trouble in paradise, eh?” A voice jokes besides them.

Turning to face the source, they get momentarily stunned by the brightness of Wheatley’s eye.

”I wanna go home.” The stargazer admits

”I do to.” The moron comforts.

Space core looks into Wheatley’s eye, and is mesmerised. “Your eye looks like the sea.” The orange eyed bot states.

“Hm? Because it’s blue-”

“SAY THAT AGAIN!”

“What?”

“THAT! ‘HM’!”

”Uhh… ‘Hm’!”

“YES! KEEP DOING THAT!”

At space cores command Wheatley starts humming. And oh, It sounds beautiful to the orange eyed core. It almost sounds like…

Oh.

Oh.

Maybe they didn’t need earth.

Because everything that was good about it was right by their side.
