Work Text:

Shouto knew when he woke up that today would be like hell.

His muscles screamed, his throat throbbed, and he was shivering under two blankets. No matter how hard he tried to regulate his temperature, he felt like he had been using his ice quirk until he had frostbite.

He huddled into the blanket, looking for warmth despite sweating all over. He was lucky today was a Saturday and he didn’t need to go to school. Need… to tell…Mo..Mo. He reached for his phone, but his arm didn’t move. His eyes drooped, and he fell asleep.

Momo knocked twice before opening the door. She did this often, going to his room without telling him. But this time, something seemed different. She looked around the dark room, and she saw Shouto on the bed. To anyone else, it would just look like a lump of blankets, but Momo knew that the small tuft of red belonged to him.

“Shouto?” she asked. What was he doing under all those blankets?

“M’mo?” A quiet voice called out. He sounded really weak, like he had been through a 20 hour fight.

Momo rushed to his side, and looked at his face. He was pale and sweaty, but still shivering under the pile of blankets.

“You’re warm,” she murmured, not really for anyone to hear. She didn’t need to put her hand on his forehead, the heat was radiating off him. She created a thermometer and put it in his mouth. When it beeped, the screen said 41 degrees.

She gently brushed the hair out of his face, and combed through it with her fingers. Shouto mumbled something indecipherable, and pulled the blankets higher onto his face until only his eyes showed. She knew that he was in pain, but she couldn’t help but smile at how adorable he was. She stood up to get water and medicine, but Shouto grabbed at her shirt.

“No…stay? Please?” he said, a whisper barely audible.

Momo smiled and held his hand. “I’ll be back soon. I promise.”

He nodded and went back into the blankets.

When Momo returned, Shouto’s face looked like a sunburn from how red he was. His eyes opened slightly and he moved a hand towards her. She placed the medicine on the floor, gently pulled the

“Shouto, sit up. You need to take medicine.” He mumbled something about feeling tired, but Momo pulled him up into a sitting position.

Despite him already looking nauseous, she knew he couldn’t eat medicine on an empty stomach. She went through her bag to look for food, and she found a sandwich she was planning on eating for lunch. Oh well. I guess I’ll find something else later.

“Eat this. You need to eat something.” She held it up in front of him, and while he did take it from her hands, he stared at it like it was poisonous. After a few seconds, he took a small bite, and chewed slowly. It took some convincing, but Momo made him eat a few bites before she gave him the medicine.

“Okay. You can go back to sleep now.” She helped him lay down and pulled the blanket up to his shoulders.

“ ‘m cold,” he muttered, shivering as he said it. Momo’s heart cracked a little, wishing that she could take his pain away, but there was nothing to do.

She wet the towel in cold water, and laid it gently on his forehead. Despite him saying he was cold, the cool water visibly made him relax.

“That feels nice,” he mumbled, closing his eyes.

Momo smiled, and gently kissed his forehead.

“Rest well, Shouto.”

When Shouto woke up, his muscles no longer screamed, his head didn’t throb, and he felt significantly better than before.

“You’re up,” Momo said. Not a question, a statement. She sat at his desk with her computer up, working on the project they had been set with the week before. He had planned to do it over the weekend, but that seemed unlikely as once the meds wore off, he would be bedridden again.

“What time is it?” he asked, rubbing his eyes.

“11:40. You slept for a while, almost 2 hours. Do you feel better?”

“Yeah. Thanks Momo.”

“Of course, who would I be to leave my boyfriend sick and in pain?” she asked, rhetorically.

She walked over and laid with him on the bed. Shouto wrapped a hand around her and closed his eyes, letting out a content sigh. Maybe today wouldn’t be hell after all.
