Work Text:

1.

Tim wakes Lucy up with a kiss to the shoulder the morning after she is all moved in. She stirs a little and then opens her eyes. He smiles at her, feeling elated that she is still next to him in bed.

“Good morning.” He says. “How did you sleep?” She doesn’t answer right away, she just scoots closer to him.

“Our bed is very comfortable.” She says softly and she leans in to give him a kiss. “I slept great. You?”

“Me too.” He says. And he really has been sleeping better this past week than he has in the last few months. Except for the two nights that he had Lucy next to him while they broken up.

He hadn’t slept. At all. He would lie awake wondering if she was sleeping peacefully or if she was lying awake too.

He told her he spent enough nights without her and it was true. He didn’t want to spend anymore nights without her by his side.

And now he didn’t have to. Ever again.

“I have a question.” She says. He raises his eyebrows at her but lets her continue. “Were you ever going to talk to me?”

“Yes.” He says. “I was but—I messed up Lucy. I didn’t want to just spring it on you. I wanted to make sure it was the right time.”

“But Angela made you realize otherwise.” Lucy says.

“She’s annoying.” Tim says. “But yes—she had a point. I was making excuses and if she had minded her own business—”

“We might not be here right now.” Lucy finishes for him. “Thank god she didn’t.” Tim laughs and pulls her closer.

“You are worth it Lucy. Every single time. You are worth it. I would do this over and over again if it meant being with you.”

Lucy looks a little stunned at first and bites her lip before leaning in to kiss him. “You are worth it too.” She says her voice soft. “And I love you.”

“I love you too.”

2.

Tim kisses her cheek next, it’s soft and gentle. And he knows the rest of her body is sore. The cheek was the one place she didn’t have a bruise. Lucy stirs and opens one eye and then another.

“Hi.” She mutters reaching out to touch his cheek. Her touch is gentle and soft.

“Hi.” He whispers back. “How do you feel?” Lucy doesn’t answer right away, just scoots closer to him like she is finding comfort in it.

“Sore.” She mutters. Tim’s heart drops a little and he remembers seeing Lucy all beat up. He remembers the panic he felt at seeing her like that. He remembers walking over to her and pulling her into his arms. He was relieved that she alive and standing but it didn’t squash the panic that he felt.

“I’m sorry baby.” He mutters trying not to let his voice shake. Lucy tried to reassure him that she was fine and all she wanted to do was go home. Which they did. But Tim still worried, and he would always worry.

He was worried sick when she got shot at the docks. She wasn’t hurt but it didn’t stop his chest from aching.

“It’s not your fault Tim.” She says softly. “You took care of me. I appreciate that.” Tim nods and moves some hair out of her face.

“I will always worry about you. I can’t help it.” He says. “And I will always take care of you.”

“It’s nice to have someone worry and take care of me.” Lucy mutters. “Thank you.” She slots her leg in between his. They probably have to get up soon—but he doesn’t have it in him to move yet.

And that’s okay with him, right now this is perfect.

3.

Tim wakes Lucy up with a kiss to the forehead. She doesn’t move until he presses a second kiss to her nose and then her lips.

She turns to look at him, a sleepy but soft smile on her face. “Do you know how many mornings I laid in my bed wishing for this again?” She asks her voice sleepy.

“Me too.” Tim says and even though it was his own fault. Even if he was the one that let her get away. He still longed for Lucy to be next to him. He still wanted her right next to him, knowing that she was okay.

“There was no one else.” Lucy says and even though Tim knew this already. It was nice to hear, it was nice to know he didn’t have to worry about anyone else in Lucy’s life.

“There wasn’t anyone else for me.” Tim says. He puts his arm across her chest and she smiles at him. “There never will be.”

“Good.” She says. She puts her hand on his arm, and rubs it up and down. “I love waking up next to you and not alone.”

“Me too.” Tim says softly. He’s not sure how he survived all those nights and mornings alone. He was just a walking zombie at first, a shell of himself who let Lucy go. And the once he realized he needed to fight for her it became a little easier to wake up and go on about his day.

He pulls her closer, and she leans in to press a kiss to his neck. “Thank you for staying.” He mutters. He doesn’t know what makes him say it but—

“Thank you for loving me.” She says and there’s a waver in her voice. “I love you.” Tim’s heart does a little leap. They say that everyday but some how it just keeps getting better and better. There is nothing like being in love with the person you know you will spend the rest of your life with.

“I love you too.” He says. Lucy smiles and rests her head on his shoulder. He gets this for the rest of his life.

Tim presses a kiss to Lucy’s neck making her mumble something under her breath and then stretch out her legs.

“It’s early.” She says. “Why are you always up so early.”

“Habit.” He replies. He runs his hands down her arms. “And I didn’t wake you up right away.”

“How considerate of you.” Lucy says. She turns on her side to face him. It was true that Tim had been up for about 5 minutes before deciding to wake Lucy up. He likes to watch her sleep, hear her soft breath and watch as the sun rises into a new day.

“Hi.” He says. Lucy scoots closer and pulls him in for a kiss. It’s soft and light and nothing like what they did last night.

But it’s perfect for this morning.

“Hi.” She replies back. She loops her arms around his neck and draws him closer. “Have I told you I love you?”

“Not today.” He says giving her a small smirk. Lucy rolls her eyes and presses a kiss to his lips.

“Well I do.” She says. “A lot.”

“I know.” He says. He knows how much Lucy loves him, he feels it everyday. He feels it deep down in his bones.

He knows Lucy is it for him. She is his future, and the fact that he gets to wake up every single morning with her next to him.

Glorious.

It makes sense that they got together as the sun rose in the horizon. It makes sense that he felt lighter than he had in awhile.

“Hey.” Lucy pokes his shoulder. “What are you thinking about?”

“You.” Tim says softly. “I am just—happy. It’s a strange feeling.” Lucy smiles at him, and presses a kiss to his lips.

“You deserve to be happy Tim.” She says running a hand down his arm. “You put everyone before yourself. You think you don’t deserve happiness because of past mistakes but you do.”

Tim feels his heart pounding in his chest, just like it was before he asked her to move in.

“That’s a lot.” He says. “But..thank you.” Lucy just smiles at him and lays her head on his chest.

“Of course baby.” She mutters. “I’m happy too.” Tim can’t help the smile that spreads across his face.

This was the beginning of the rest of his life. Their life. And he couldn’t be any happier.

Tim rolls over and presses a kiss to her shoulder and then her arm. She mumbles something and then opens her eyes to look at him.

“Good morning.” She says. Her eyes scan his face and he knows she’s worried about him. Just like he has been worried about her. His face he knows is all beat up. He looks like he walked into a fight and did not win.

Which was kind of true but—he was fine. Besides feeling like he had fallen down a flight of stairs and his face is beat up.

But he’s fine—he’s absolutely fine.

“I’m okay Luce.” He says softly. “I—”

“I’m worried about you.” She blurts out. She puts her hand on his chest and he watches her face relax a little. “It was scary not knowing if you were okay or not.”

“I know.” Tim says. “Now you know how I feel.” Lucy chews on her bottom lip, and nods her head.

“It’s an awful feeling.” She says. “I just—I can’t lose you Tim.”

“I’m not going anywhere Luce.” He assures her. “I’m going to do my best to come home to you.”

“Good.” Lucy says. “And I will do my best to come home to you.”

“Good.” Tim says. He brushes some hair out of her face and then leans in to kiss her. She is his entire world and he’s not sure what he would do if something happened to her. But he knows that being a cop came with uncertainty every single day. He knows anything could happen—but as long as they both tried to do their best to get home to one another and that’s all that really matters.

Tim wakes up and reaches for Lucy but she’s not there. He sits up and sees the bathroom light is on. Tim sighs softly and sinks back into the bed. He knows she will be back soon.

Sure enough, he hears the sink going and then the light turns off and Lucy steps back into the room.

She smiles at him as she climbs back into bed and face him. He gives her cheek a kiss and then lays back.

“Hi.” He says. “You good?” Lucy nods and scoots closer to him.

“I’m good.” She says. “I just had to use the restroom—” She pauses when she sees him just looking at her. His head is spinning, and he knows what he has to do.

“I have a question for you.” He says. Lucy frowns a little but doesn’t say anything. “I have been waiting to do this for awhile. And I wanted to wait for the perfect time.”

“What—”

Tim reaches over to the bedside table and grabs the small box he put on it last night. He takes a deep breath and blows it out. “I love you. I have for awhile now. I know I messed up and we missed a lot of time with each other.” He says. “You make me happy and waking up to you every single morning makes me happy. It’s something I want to do…every single day for the rest of my life.”

“Tim.”

“I know I’m not perfect.”  He says. “I know we still argue and fight but I want to fight for us. And I will fight for you. I won’t walk away. Never again.” Lucy swallows and looks like she wants to say something but he beats her to it.

“I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You are the love of my life. And this is what I want. I know that. I know what I want now.” He says.

“Tim.” Lucy says quickly and there are tears in her eyes. “Please ask the question. Please.”

Tim lets out a laugh, and pulls out the box so she can see it. He opens it up and she meets his eyes. “Lucy, will you marry me?” He asks.

“Tim.” She says. “This is—this is amazing and I love you too. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You have come so far, and I’m so proud of you. I want—”

“Just say yes.” Tim says cutting her off. “Please.” Lucy wipes the tears from her face and he has a feeling they are both going to be a mess after this. But as long as she says yes. As long as he knows he gets her forever—

Yes.” She says smiling. “Yes, I will marry you.”
