Summary
Nearing the back wall of the vault, the relief of nearly being done is washing over him. Just a few more piles of haphazardly stacked treasure, and they will be free to leave the stuffy vault behind and continue on with their day. He'll take the cursed heirlooms back with him to work on breaking the curses, and return them to be auctioned off once they're safe.
His mind, already running through the items found and working on solutions, is distracted.
That one moment of distraction is enough to cost him.
His eyes land on a ring, lying atop a small pile of galleons. It looks completely innocuous, dark metal and a huge emerald inlaid at the crest. It reminds him of a hundred rings his father owned that looked exactly like it.
The moment he lays his eyes on it he knows something has gone wrong.
