Work Text:

Callie groaned and turned over restlessly. “Baby...” She whined, voice thick with sleep. “The alarm.” The alarm in question had been sounding for what must have been ten minutes now and Callie was about to lose it. It was her first day off in a while and she was trying her best to cling onto precious sleep. Her hand moved to shake her girlfriend awake and instead hit the empty mattress beside her. “Baby?” Where was she? She felt uselessly around and, finding nothing, sat up, eyelids heavy. “Arizona?”

A noise from the bathroom caught her attention and she leapt out of bed. Arizona was sitting on the floor, her head over the toilet. Her skin was pale and clammy and she was shivering.

“Oh. Hi Callie.” She croaked, pathetically. “I’m okay.” Callie knelt to join her and pressed a hand to her forehead. It was warm.

“You don’t seem alright.” She sounded worried, Arizona smiled weakly in response.

“I think it was something I ate.” She shivered suddenly, startling herself a little. Callie wrapped her arms around her tightly and rubbed her arms to warm her up. She peered into the bowl and saw Arizona had not been sick yet. At least that was something.

“Come back to bed, honey.” She whispered softly. “You’re burning up.” Arizona looked at her, blearily. “Please, Arizona, come on.” Callie begged softly. “I’ll get you some water, you’ll feel better.” She got up to move to the kitchen.

“Don’t leave me.” Arizona gasped. “Callie. Please.” Callie’s face softened with concern, and she sat back down on the cold bathroom floor.

This was how they spent the next hour, the two of them on the bathroom floor. Arizona with her head on Callie’s shoulder, Callie singing softly, comfortingly. She could feel her Arizona’s head nodding with sleep as she sang. Without moving her shoulder, she reached across and grabbed a towel from the rack and draped it over her shivering girlfriend.

“Callie?” Arizona whispered. “Are you there?” Callie squeezed her tightly.

“I’m right here, baby. I’m right here.” She felt the tension leave Arizona as she sighed. The sigh quickly and suddenly became a gag and she jerked forward. Callie heard the vomit and tapped her shoulder, reassuringly. She let her fingers run softly, up and down Arizona’s back as her girlfriend shuddered and lurched forwards. “There you go.” She encouraged gently, “You’ve got this.” Arizona turned around to her, her eyes full of tears.

“I hate it. I want it to stop.” She lamented. She turned away quickly to vomit again. Callie brushed her fingers through her long blonde hair. Arizona leaned into the touch.

“Sssh, mi amor. It’ll be over soon. Then we can get you to bed.” Arizona whined a little and shook her head. She let her neck drop and leaned her body fully on the toilet seat.

“I think I got sick in my hair.” She whimpered. Callie leaned forward to check.

“Ah. Yeah.” She confirmed. “I think you might have, baby.” She tapped Arizona’s back a little, causing the other woman to retch. “Do you think you might be done?” She asked, hopefully. Arizona nodded. “Let’s get you cleaned up, yeah?”

Callie turned the shower on and gently encouraged Arizona out of her pyjamas. Arizona clambered shakily into the shower and started to soap herself. While she did, Callie set about wiping the bathroom and readying the bedroom. She grabbed a glass of water from the kitchen and set in on Arizona’s nightstand. She picked up the discarded pyjamas from the floor and placed them in the washing machine whilst tossing a fresh pair in the dryer to heat up.

Callie heard the shower turn off and darted back to the bathroom. “Hey, baby.” She greeted Arizona warmly. “Are you okay?” Arizona had more colour in her cheeks, but she still looked far from healthy. “I’m okay.” Arizona replied, weakly. Callie laughed affectionately. “You sure? Because you look like shit.” Arizona giggled a little, despite herself. She let Callie wrap her in a towel. She let Callie dry each of her arms and each of her legs, carefully and thoroughly. “Sit on the floor over here.” Callie gestured into the bedroom. “Your pyjamas are here.” Arizona smiled gratefully and dressed herself, before sitting on the carpet at Callie’s feet. She let Callie slowly and carefully brush her hair out. Callie was focused on her task, humming softly to herself, as she split Arizona’s blonde hair into two sections and began braiding them. Once Arizona was looking a little more herself, she climbed into the bed and snuggled under the heavy covers. She let Callie slide in below her and rested her head gently on her chest. Her breath was still a little shaky, but it slowed as her girlfriend softly caressed her back. She felt safe and let herself drift slowly to sleep.
