Work Text:

Leafy wandered the vast purple hills of Yoyleland under the starry night sky, the stars much brighter than her mood; she felt dejected, outcasted, and utterly distraught.

She bit down hard on a Yoyleberry. Its gooey insides slowly dripped from the corner of her mouth as her body started to go cold, turning to metal; she swallowed it without even thinking about how disgusting it tasted. At this point she couldn't even count how many she ate before being recovered.

Why did they hate her after all she had given? Shouldn't it be acceptable to be selfish just once, especially after what HE did; pretending he didn't know her? Leafy's face scrunched into disgust as her grip on the knife grew tighter.

However, it didn't matter how much Leafy tried focusing on hating not just Firey but them all for trying to kill her; it was in vain. A tear rolled down her face; she just wanted to be loved again, and she couldn't bring herself to hate the ones that she loved with all her heart.

Fiery had received her after all, and maybe with a bit of talking and reminding the other contestants. That she wasn't a bad person, like she was a former finalist; her help should be... No would be valued; maybe that could make the contestant like her again.

No matter how hurt she was, she wanted to show them that she could make them love her and be her friend again no matter what it took, but for now she was going to be observing everybody to get more information.

*Thwack*

Leafy smacked her face into a hard, thick Yoyle tree, and she gripped her face in pain. She really needed to pay more attention to where she was walking and stop getting in her own head about all this. Luckily, she hadn't hurt herself too badly, only slightly bruising herself.

She had to get far away from Yoyleland before anyone spotted her, and she had already gotten quite far, so she took a seat among the soft purple grass and rested her body up against the tree.

The tree was rough, and any slight movement would scrape against the prickly bark; however, surprisingly, it wasn't the most uncomfortable thing she had experienced up to this point, so pretty quickly underneath the tree, Leafy started to doze off.

She dreamed about being back with everybody all on Dream Island, laughing happily together, all telling her how nice she was and how happy everybody was.

Everyone Leafy had known up to this point surrounded her on all sides, cheering and praising her, giving her a warm welcome back, and even apologizing for trying to kill her. It was all she could have ever wanted; however, there was one notable person missing…

Fiery.

After a few moments, Leafy started looking for him, leaving the loud, bustling crowd of all her friends, who seemed to be surprised at her sudden departure. As she emerged into the dense forest, the tall trees were judgingly staring down at her, the moonlight creating harsh shadows that started to give Leafy an unnerved feeling.

As she kept walking, the noises of her friends calling her back got harder and harder to hear as she started wandering farther and farther away. However, after a while there was Firey standing among the trees, warmly illuminating the space around him. He looked like a beacon of light with a huge inviting smile on his face.

Leafy ran towards Firey with open arms, hoping to embrace him one last time, to just feel like she mattered to him one more time, even if it was a dream, to just hug him and feel important to him here would be enough.

However, Firey didn't look happy anymore; he looked disgusted. Gazing upon Leafy, his eyes filled with malice, not love, he took a step back, his movements seeming to mirror Leafy's every desperate step she took forward. Firey only returned with one disgusted step back.

Leafy tried running faster and faster, only for Firey to just get farther and farther away, eventually even so far that Leafy couldn't see his warm glowing light anymore. Now she was lost and alone all over again. It seemed like nothing she did mattered; no matter what she tried, she would always just end up alone.

Leafy fell to her knees as the memories of what her and Firey were before all this. They were friends; she thought they were friends, but now it was nothing more than a burned bridge between them all over one stupid decision she made.

Leafy slammed her fists on the ground violently; the dirt shook under her as it slowly started to crack and buckle as she kept slamming, each slam harder, her hands starting to bleed as the ground started to give out from under her, cracking and falling away, falling into it.

She started falling fast, going deeper and deeper into this hole that she had made, accepting her fate. Leafy shut her eyes as she felt the warmth of the Earth's core coming closer and closer. She imagined it was Firey just so maybe she could feel his warmth again.

The closer and closer she came to the earth's core, the hotter and hotter it became. She felt herself starting to char, her leafy green edges turning a sickly burnt brown, her body following suit until finally.

*Fwoosh*

Leafy's eyes shot open. That's right, she was still under the tree; she was safe. It was still practically the middle of the night, the moon still high in the sky, and the stars still shining bright amongst the black night sky.

For a few minutes Leafy just sat looking up at the night sky, not moving, only breathing, taking in the majesticness of how the stars seemed to dance, remembering when her and Firey first became friends; it was up there in space.

It was only now that she realized how much Firey truly meant to her, how much just his warm presence made her feel wanted and happy. It didn't matter how much it would take; she just had to make things right.

She let out a deep sigh before stretching her weary limbs, dusting the loose dirt from her sore legs as she stood up and turned around, facing her back towards the moon as she grabbed her knife and continued walking into the night.
