Work Text:
1st of April, 2085
Abolish hasn’t watched Scott in about a month. The permit office is only open for two hours a week and he needs to renew his hunting license before we can get back up to work. The issue is, it is a huge guessing game on when the damn bird is in that office.
Abolish has his phone in his hand as he calls the office hoping that they are open. He will just teleport there at this point. Why is there only one person working there and why do they not ever work? “Hello, this is the permit office. We are unable to take your call right now, but if you leave your name and number we will get back to you with in the next 50 business years. Have a good day~”
Abolish hears a beep at the end of the line. “Grian, I know you are there and can hear this message as this is your personal phone too. I will turn on phone tracking and find you and drag you to the office myself.”
He hangs up and Pyro looks up from his book sensing the annoyance that his partner is feeling. “Abolish? You good?”
Abolish takes a few deep breaths to ground himself. He is just going to go to the permit office and hope that the bird checked his message. “God, Jack, I get that he is my friend, maybe I should be lenient on him. But god, does this bird drive me up the wall. I haven’t been able to work for a month because he is never in at the same time.”
“Today is April 1st, the office has historically been open on that day, and I think that he is just ignoring your call because it is you. I am pretty sure he likes the threats. You know who he is dating, it makes sense.” Pyro goes back to his book as he flips to the next page.
Abolish rolls his eyes. “He is always in a relationship it seems. He is about as old as I am and is in them until his partner passes. Waits twenty years then get in another one. But during that time he is still talking about the other as if he can still talk to them and see them.”
“Yet always falls for the same stupid face. Anyways, if he isn’t at the office, contact his partner.”
Pyro becomes quiet as Abolish fiddles with his phone to track Grain’s cell. “I’ll be back Jack, do you want anything while I am out?”
Pyro thinks on what to ask for. He mulls the thought in his head for some time and then gets up to place his hand on Abolish’s cheek. The warmth is very comforting as he looks into his brown eyes very comforting. “I’ll come with you.” The organization that Abolish is part of said that because of how he was turned fully becoming human wouldn’t be possible but they could at least walk out in the sun now for two hours at least. “I might have to teleport back here at some point but I can head out with you.”
Abolish lets out a sigh as he takes Pyro and teleports to the location that the phone is at. Once they make it there Abolish rings the doorbell to what seems to be a decent size family house.
“Go away, Grian is not home right now...” Grian’s voice sounds from the other side sounding upset as the way he responds isn’t the usual timbre that he uses when speaking to Abolish.
“Grian, are you doing okay?” The frustration that he felt about the office seems to have dissipated as he hears the pain in his friends voice.
“Yes... I can’t work today... Sorry Abolish... I can give you the key to the office if you want and just put the paper in my mail box. I don’t want to leave... I can’t leave...”
“Is he gone again? Grian, you are allowed to talk to me about this kind of stuff, you know that, right?” Abolish sits next to the permit office owner.
The man looks away as his eyes land on the bed that seems to haven’t been touched for a long time. “If I make it, the last part of him will be gone.”
“But he comes back, you know he does.” Abolish sits next to Grian and pats his head.
The man next to him pouts as he sulks the idea of him coming back and Grian falling in love with his imperfections all over again. If only he could see the original again. But Grian himself isn’t even from this world. But he isn’t from the world that he was from to begin with. “I should have never left the desert.” The avian says under his breath.
“Can I come in?” Pyro stands outside hoping to get out of the sun. He would love to enter but is unable to do so.
Grian looks behind himself and sees someone that he has never met before, or more of talked with. He does remember seeing him at the permit office last time that Abolish was there. “Sure. You can this one time.”
Pyro slowly walks in and looks around the house that seems to be in disarray. “Do you want help cleaning? That might help you feel better.”
“No! Don’t touch anything here. They were all his.” Grian curls up in a ball as he tries to not break down into tears. “I want to keep his memory with me a little longer.”
“Of course you do.” Pyro looks at Abolish who seems to be doing his best to keep the Avian calm.
“I saw Scott the other day. He was with Martyn.” Grian’s voice sounds viod of emotion as he starts talking again. “Martyn looked happy, but when I aproached Scott alone he seemed... different then I remember.”
“Scott has been the same for the past twohundred-eighty years.” Abolish’s response caught Grian off gaurd.
He flinches slightly and looks off in the distance. “He said he doesn’t have time to deal with another death god.” The avian’s eyes water as he thinks about what to say. “Am, I a god? Is that why I don’t die? I’d like to die with him. I don’t want to lose him again.”
“I’ll see what I can do without turning him the next time he comes around.”
“Thank you...” Grian holds himself close. “I’ll be in the office tomorrow for a normal work day length. Please come by then. I just want to be alone today.”
“Of course, you have my number if you need anything Grian. The organization is always able to help.” Abolish and Pyro get up as they get ready to leave.
“Right, the organization. Tell them that I’m sorry for delaying their best worker from being able to do his job.”
After the two leave Grian gets up and curls up on the bed seeing a yoda plush on the bed, takes it and holds it close. “Scar, get back soon you idiot."
