jason dean, you let us ALL down

Summary:

JD goes around looking for a girl (most likely to manipulate in a plot to blow up the school) and fails MISERABLY.

OR

JD gets humiliated four times and gets slapped in the face twice, and for good reason.

bookmark to read for whenever you're mad at JD.

Notes:

hey.

So today I was reading a special certain JDuke fic (I don't ship, I was just curious) and uhhh I'm furious at JD right now. The fic is really well-written though.

I am a firm believer that in the movie, JD was willing to manipulate any girl who was naive enough to listen, so what he did to Veronica I am almost CERTAIN he would've done the same to anyone else.

So in a frenzy of feminine rage (mostly from that JDuke fic), I wrote this. Whoever's name is in bold is the pov for that section.

Enjoy!

Work Text:

Heather Chandler

Heather was having a decent day, but she couldn’t wait for lunch period. Lunch period was the one period at school, where she saw all of her friends. Oh, and the lunch poll. She really entertained herself with the lunch poll. It was insane how much the school worshipped her, so much so they would answer anything she asked.

Well, her day was decent.

Until some Red Dawn-looking, Morrissey-ass creep made his way toward her in the hallway. She recognized him, the new kid. JD or whatever. The guy thought he was Jesse James because he shot blanks in the cafeteria. She thought he should go to jail.

“Greetings and salutations,” he said, striding over. Heather Chandler rolled her eyes. He was extremely far from her type.

She didn’t know what this guy was even trying to do. Hit on her? Please. She could do ten times better.

“Ugh, beat it, loser.” She tried to push past him, but he stepped in front of her.

“Well, uh…” JD sighed. “What’d you think of the thing I pulled in the caf?”

“I thought it was stupid,” she raised her eyebrows to humor him.

“You’re not into stunts? Not into the extreme?”

Heather Chandler smiled coyly. “Are you trying to ask me out?”

“Why not?” JD raised an eyebrow. God, Heather Chandler thought to herself, men are idiots.

“Then…” she looked down before meeting his eyes again. “Could I get your number?”

She quickly pulled a pen from her bag and handed it to him. “Why don’t you write it on my hand? So I’ll remember,” she added, really relishing this. Heather extended her hand and he leaned down to begin to write some numbers. At the very last second, Heather brought her hand quickly across his face, emitting a loud crack throughout the hall. People stared and laughed.

She happily walked past him, while he was still in shock. “Nice try, Jesse James.”

Heather McNamara

No one wanted to ask that new kid the lunch poll question, so Heather McNamara volunteered.

Heather Chandler didn’t enjoy him, that’s for sure. He was standing in the corner like a total weirdo. Mac shrugged and went on.

“Hi,” she said, only a bit nervously, noticing the red handprint on his cheek.

“Greetings and salutations.” There was the slightest bit of weariness in his voice.

“So… Lunch poll question: You inherit 5 million dollars the same day aliens land on Earth and say they’re gonna blow it up in two days. What do you do with the money?”

“I’m sorry, what?” She couldn’t tell if he was feigning deafness or not.

“Are you deaf?” she asked, just a little bluntly. She couldn’t help it. JD gave an offended expression.

“Sorry. Umm…” She did a bunch of weird gestures with her hands, hoping it meant something in sign language.

“No, I’m not deaf.”

“Oh.” There was something so condescending about the way he looked at her. It was getting a little annoying.

“So, about the thing I did in the cafeteria-” he implored.

“Is that the only cool thing you’ve done?”

JD looked aghast, before grumbling angrily. “No, I’ve done other things…”

“Oh okay!”

“Wait!”

She was about to turn around, but he felt her hand around her right wrist.

She turned around, disgusted. “Ew!”

By instinct, her palm met his left cheek. His face looked horrified, and let go.

“Huh, matching marks,” she noted and spun on her heel, returning to her friends, with the hugest grins on their faces.

Heather Duke

Heather Duke used the transition after gym to spend some time alone. Right outside of the gymnasium was the sweet spot where she crammed in as much reading as she could. She was trying to read Moby Dick, when she heard someone walking toward her. It was that tall new kid, JD. The one Heather McNamara had slapped in the cafeteria, and the one that Heather Chandler hated. She hadn't quite decided on her impression of him yet. That would change very soon.

“Greetings and salutations. ‘I now know thee, thou clear spirit.’” he said.

“That’s Moby Dick,” Heather pointed out flatly. Was he really quoting the book to try to appeal to her? How performative do you have to be?

JD nodded. “I see you’re reading. I do appreciate a well-read woman.”

“Really?” Heather almost laughed.

“I am a fan of books myself, so yes.”

“I don’t think you appreciate women at all.”

JD looked surprised at first, but somewhat avoided denying it. “What do you mean?”

“I don’t know,” Duke closed her book. Well, there went her reading time. “You say the same things to every girl you meet, try to pique their interest in some way, in what I’m guessing, some master plot involving manipulation.”

“Wow,” he tried moving next to her to peek at her book. She swiftly elbowed him in the ribs, and went along to her next class.

Veronica Sawyer

“Greetings and salutations” is what pulls her out of her mid-hallway diary entry. She looked up to see Jason Dean looking directly at her.

“Yeah right, asshole.” She tried to mirror what Heather McNamara did in the caf, but annoyingly, he caught it. “Shit!”

He smirked, thinking he had won for once that day. Wrong. Veronica sharply brought her knee up between his legs. He doubled over in pain, and while he was, she slapped him across the face for good measure. She had places to be, after all, Heather Chandler was giving her a ride home.
