    “Will someone just tell me what we’re voting on?” America interrupts, slipping onstage.

    “Tommy has a crush,” Kate says bluntly, no nonsense.

    “No, he doesn’t,” Billy snaps. “David Alleyne has a crush. That’s different.”

    “It’s a mutual crush,” Kate says. America squints at Billy, shoving her hands in the pockets of her jean jacket.

    “Don’t you hate David?”

    Billy’s face flushes, cheeks dark under the smudges of his eyeliner. “I don’t hate him.”

    “He hates him,” Teddy confirms.
