Chapter Text
Danny looked around as he hoped that Nocturn had simply stepped his game up and that he wasn't actually living one of his worst nightmares. His parents had been secluded in their lab for a week working on some new weapon and he had been busy enough with Vlad sending out a ton of smaller ghosts that he hadn't checked in on them to see what it is supposed to do. Instead he found out the painful way when they cornered him as he was flying to meet up with his friends.
His father had used some kind of area effect weapon that disrupted most of his powers while his mother caught him in some specialized netting. A net that then retracted into the launcher similar to how the Fenton Thermos captured a ghost. The next thing he knew he was being let out into a room that they had added to the lab with Jack picking him up and strapping him to a table. A muzzle was also quickly applied.
Danny of course tried to turn intangible and fly away only to find that he couldn't. Ectoblasts, his ghostly wail, even trying to turn back to his Human form all failed to work. Oddly the only thing he could do was turn invisible. Maddie leaned over and hummed as she watched him test out what powers he still had access to.
"Looks like we tuned the field just right. Seems like the only thing he can do is be invisible, which doesn't help since he can't move." She states in a voice with a hint of pride.
Jack nods and asks, "Lets start with the initial scans so we have a solid baseline for it."
This surprises him a little as he was expecting them to want to immediately dive into tearing him apart molecule by molecule. A buzzing noise starts up from the muzzle and drowns out all other sounds which makes it so he can't make out what they are saying as they do scan him.
They draw a few samples of his ectoplasm and seem to run some ultrasounds and x-rays of him. After that his mother approaches with a syringe and injects something that knocks him out. A spike of worry that it will force him to shift back and how they would react surges through him as he falls asleep.
Some time later he wakes up, Maddie seeming to make note of it. Danny cranes his head as much as he is able and sees that he is still Phantom. A bit of relief passes through him, but he can also just barely see his chest and the untouched suit still on it. He hopes that it hasn't been too long and that Sam and Tucker have gotten in contact with Jazz.
Jack draws some more ectoplasm, an odd look on his face as he begins to run it through a test and comparing it to something. While he is doing that Sam and Tucker burst into the lab and are yelling at his parents. The noise from the muzzle is still drowning everything else out so he can't make out what they are saying. Tucker manages to access the screens and casts his phone to them so that Jazz can talk to the Drs. Fentons.
Her voice coming through the speakers is loud enough that Danny can actually hear her as she explains, "Mom, Dad, Phantom is Danny. The accident with the portal where he got hurt bound ectoplasm to him and turned into something called a Halfa. Half-Human and Half-Ghost."
Maddie doesn't look convinced, but Jack turns back to the test he was running and says something. His wife has an odd look on her face but moves over to the table where Phantom is bound.
She carefully removes the muzzle and asks, "Are you our son?"
He replies, "I am."
"We were both afraid of what you would do when you learned. I figured it would be best if we could control the situation but that didn't happen." The future Dr. Jasmine Fenton PsyD, MD, states.
Their father turns to the screen and asks, "When did you learn?"
His sister has a slightly embarrassed look on her face as she explains, "I had some suspicions a couple months after the accident and had been worried about him. Though it took seeing him transform for me to actually piece it together."
Maddie gets an odd look as she states, "If he is our son then clearly you were right to worry about us learning."
"I could shift forms if that will help convince you." Danny offers.
Jack and Maddie look at one another and she goes over to a panel and makes some adjustments while he pulls out a weapon just to be safe.
Danny begins his transformation, willing it to go somewhat slow so as not to startle his parents. They watch as the rings of light pass over his body, shifting him from Phantom and into Danny. Once it fully finishes, Jack lowers his weapon.
The teen then says, "I would understand if you want to run a couple more tests just to confirm that it is me."
Maddie gently approaches him, and far more carefully draws out some of his blood. As she runs the test, he tells them some of his childhood memories, even ones that include their Christmas argument that destroyed the presents for him and Jazz.
The moment the test finishes Jack and Maddie rush over to free their son from the straps on the table.
"We are so sorry for hunting you." They both say as they hug him.
Vlad leans back in his chair, smiling devilishly at what his spy camera had caught. He was very glad he managed to place it just before they returned with their captured son so that Young Daniel wouldn't have had time to remove and destroy it.
