Danny Fenton finds himself in Gotham almost yearly for one of the biggest Ghost Conventions in the US. His parents make him and Jazz attend for "family bonding" that never happens. So in his adventures into the city, he finds a friend in a Crime Alley kid turned billionaire's son, Jason Todd.
After being given the title Ghost King, Danny's already terrible luck somehow plummets to abysmal boarding on catastrophic. He now finds himself in less than ideal situations when he visits the gloomy city. Namely, dying repeatedly in front of Gotham's flock of vigilantes traumatizing and making them think they must be going crazy because how is he ordering coffee the next day after being mauled by Killer Croc???
The bats tear their hair out trying to find the logic in why they're being haunted by the repeated death of Jason's childhood friend. Jason laughs in their face, but only after he knows exactly what's going on. Danny also starts to find amusement in their reactions when he pops up out of nowhere like nothing happened and having no clue what they're talking about. What do you mean you saw Bane snap him like a toothpick and bury him in rubble?

700 years ago, the man who would become Ra's al Ghul made a deal with the Ghost King, Pariah Dark. He traded a tribute of souls and his undying loyalty in exchange for the mystical waters of the Lazarus Pits. They sealed the deal with a promise to marry their respective heirs and unite their two kingdoms.
Only Pariah Dark never had any heirs.
But Danny, newly crowned, does.
