Still Having Nightmares

Summary:

Lyza hates when Keigo has these dreams.

Prompt fill for class project. Check notes for more information.

Notes:

So here we are, prompt number three of one hundred. 14 of the prompts included in this series, are being used as pieces for my project and portfolio course this month. All of the prompts are being written twice, once for fandom, and once with an original character/plot line.

That said, there is one more note that needs to be made. All of the prompt fills will include the same FMC, and is part of a series of novel length works currently titled Doorways. Each fic is a standalone work and does not have to be read with any of the others posted to this account, but all of them are connected by one constant. Each one starts by opening a magic door.

Work Text:

Lyza was just getting home from her shift at the café, the elevator dinging as it pulled to a stop within the penthouse apartment that her boyfriend owned. Keigo had managed to pull a day off out of his ass, after the damn bitch of a… She still wished she could just throat punch the Commission president… Just one good time. Enough to make her question every single one of her life choices, and put things into perspective for her.

But she knew the odds of that happening were slim to zero.

But times like these…

She always wanted to beat the bloody breaks off the woman.

She could feel his pain, the tension of it tight in her chest as her quirk fed on every miniscule tingle of what he felt.

He was upstairs, in the bed.

She followed the stairs and made her way down the hall. She found him in the bed, struggling to breathe, wings wrapped around himself as if they could protect him.

“Hey, hey--- Birdie… Look at me.”

He wasn’t breathing, the tone of his voice a whispered whine as he choked out the reality.

“I can’t breathe--- She-She killed you. You were dead. I couldn’t save you.”

Those wings still hadn’t moved yet.

“Kei, open your wings and look at me.”

Red wings opened, and she took the opportunity to climb into their bed, and into his lap. Those wings closed around the both of them then. He was sheltering her from invisible perceived threats. He always did when his nightmares were so bad.

“I’m not dead, birdie. Breathe.”

He cradled her tighter to his chest in response to that, as if he could protect her from the concept itself.

“Kei… Do you need me to sing to you?”

He nodded against the top of her head.

And so she began. She channeled every calm emotion she could into that song, and as she sang, his breathing leveled out and kissed him on the jaw.

“I’m not dead, baby. I’m not going anywhere, I promise.”
