    Grian finally looked up from the hand as he collected his thoughts. “Let me see if I understand. I either have to go to detention for a month, risking my future because it will go on my records, or work with Scar for three weeks?” Hick nodded, just as Scar’s shoulders tightened. “This is blackmail.”

    “Extortion.” Scar whispered, earning him an elbow to the rib.

    Mr. Hick just shrugged as he returned to his papers. “Never claimed to be fair. So, what will it be, Grian?”

    Or, forced to work with Scar for a month, Grian quickly realizes there is much more going on behind his group of shallow friends, and has to decide where in the hierarchy he wants to land once he uncovers the full truth.
