    Summary

Mike watched all this with tears streaming down his face, his chest rising and falling as if the very act of breathing had suddenly become a choice. He held Will’s hand. That’s almost a given, at this point. He held Will’s hand, and Will watched him hold it, safe in the endless expanse of the theatre’s darkness. I wish I could feel things the way you feel them, Will remembers thinking. I wish I could see the way you see. I wish you could stay like this forever. Let me kill all the lights and strike the hands from the clocks. Let me keep us here in the dark, where it’s safe.

Then, the curtain fell, the lights came back, and that was the end of that. Mike carried on like nothing had happened. Never mind, Will thought. I guess the only darkness here is me.

It's been a decade since El disappeared, Mike is still trapped in his own head, and no one knows how to talk about it. Then, Mike does something impulsive, and everything falls apart.

Or: A story about grief, trauma, free will, and what it means to have come face to face with the supernatural. This starts slow, but bear with me; I promise it doesn't go where you're expecting!
