Picnic

Summary:

Chanse and Tommy have a picnic at the park

Notes:

This is a direct sequel to Chanse's part in Home is in Your Arms, but you don't really need to read it first

lexi_lovely117 said I should make this after that fic, and I agreed

Also please God don't read this Smosh. This is purely poorly written fiction based on real people. Nothing I write is a fact, it's just based off their Internet personas

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Chanse wakes up and stretches, smiling when he feels Tommy’s arms around him.

He loves the mornings when he wakes up and his caregiver is there. Looking at the clock and seeing it’s early, he closes his eyes again to go back to sleep, but then he remembers what Tommy said yesterday.

If they get up early they can go shopping to buy picnic food before they go to the park.

Chanse excitedly attempts to wake Tommy, while also being gentle.

“Tommy! It’s early and you said we could go shopping.” he says, gently shaking the man.

His eyes crack open and he looks at the excited little, sighing as he stretches.

“I did say that.” he responds raspily with a small smile, “What do you want for breakfast?”

Chanse cheers, pushing himself up to sit. “We should just have cereal cuz we’re probably gonna eat lunch early.” he tells Tommy as he slides out of bed and walks over to where he keeps his little clothes.

“Cereal and fruit.” Tommy counters, standing up, “I’m gonna shower, do you want to first?”

“Can I shower when I get home instead?” he asks, “I’ll be gross from running and will wanna shower anyway. Plus, I showered last night.”

“I can’t argue with that.” Tommy agrees, “Brush your teeth while I grab my clothes,”

Chanse nods, heading to the bathroom to do that, walking back to his room and running into Tommy in the hallway.

“I’m gonna shower, get dressed and watch a show until I’m out.” Tommy tells the little, “Unless you want to pack a few toys for the park.”

The little nods, hugging Tommy before going back to his room and putting on a pair of red basketball shorts and a Power Rangers tank top. He grabs his backpack and looks at what’s inside.

As an older little, his bag doesn’t have much in it. Just an extra change of clothes in case whatever he’s wearing is uncomfortable and a few small toys.

Looking around his room, he decides he doesn’t want anything from there so he walks over to the hall closet to see if he has anything fun for the park.

He grabs his jump rope and a football his mom got him and shoves them into his bag.

Deciding that was good enough he closes it, walking over to the couch to turn on a show while he waits for Tommy.

Tommy walks in dressed for the day in a little under an episode of Pokemon, “Don’t start another one,” he calls out as he walks through to the kitchen, “Cereal only takes a minutes,”

Chanse nods, finishing the episode and walking to sit at the table right as Tommy places the cereal and some cut up strawberries on the table.

“Thanks!” he says happily, grabbing the box of Captain Crunch to pour into his bowl and adding some milk.

“Good listening,” Tommy compliments as he pours his own breakfast, popping a strawberry into his mouth.

He pulls out his phone and opens the notes app, “What ‘picnic food’ do we need?” he asks the little, using air quotes around picnic food.

Chanse bounces excitedly in his seat, “We gotta get stuff that we can take straight there so we don’t have to come back,” he starts, continuing when Tommy nods, “So um, Uncrustables, a bag of chips, fruit, carrot sticks, and cookies,”

“That wasn’t very specific bub,” Tommy tells him and he shrugs.

“We’re going together, I don’t have to,” Chanse reminds him, taking his last bite of cereal, “Can we buy chalk?”

Tommy nods, pushing the remaining strawberries in front of the little as he stands to clean, “Finish those for me,” he tells him as he grabs the empty bowls to load into the dishwasher.

Chanse finishes the strawberries and helps Tommy with the rest of cleaning up, “Can you add juice to the list?” he asks as he crouches to search for his cooler bag.

“Added,” Tommy confirms as Chanse hands him the bag before he runs and grabs his little bag from the living room.

“Ready!” he says excitedly, almost vibrating with pent up energy as he walks with Tommy to the car.

“Back seat is lame,” he mumbles as he buckles his seat belt, “I’m almost a teenager.”

Tommy rolls his eyes as he pulls out of the parking lot, “You sound eight right now,” he counters, earning him a huff from Chanse.

“So?” he questions sassily, “Eight is almost thirteen.” he argues, crossing his arms.

His caregiver laughs. “That’s five years Chanse, that’s like saying Angie is basically your age.” he counters, but the little shakes his head.

“Angie can be six, that’s only two.” he pushes back, “I know math, Tommy”

He sighs, “Regardless, littles can’t sit in the front, even Spencer isn’t supposed to.” he reminds him as he pulls into the parking lot of the store.

“How do they even know?” Chanse asks curiously as Tommy searches for a spot.

“They only know if you’re pulled over, or if they’re little enough to be obvious,” he explains, “But you know what happens if they do,”

Chanse nods, “Spencer could pass for an adult.” he states as Tommy parks, “Can I?” he adds.

Tommy turns off the car and unlocks the doors, walking with his little towards the store, “You still have a little voice,” he tells him, “It’s not babyish or anything,” he adds hastily, “But it is distinctly little.”

He shrugs, grabbing a cart and pushing it towards the toys.

“We’re food shopping,” Tommy reminds the little as he walks next to the cart, the food behind them.

“You said we could buy chalk,” he answers, walking into the outdoor toys section.

Chanse picks up a box of chalk before turning back around to walk to the food aisles, starting with chips.

“What do you want?” he asks Tommy as he stops, “I want these,” he adds picking up a bag of Doritos.

“Fine with me,” he responds easily, “How do you feel about Oreos?” he counters as they enter the cookie section.

Chanse doesn’t answer, simply placing a container of Oreos in the cart and continuing towards frozen food.

“Strawberry or Grape?” Chanse mumbles to himself as he looks between the two, “Do you like grape?” has asks Tommy and when he shakes his head he grabs the strawberry, “Made that easy,”

Tommy laughs as they reach the produce section, “You need a fruit and a veggie,” he tells Chanse, “Your choice.”

“Pineapple!” he says excitedly, picking up a container of pineapple chunks and placing them in the cart.

It takes longer for him to pick a vegetable, finally grabbing a snack pack that came with carrots and ranch.

They head towards the check out as Tommy looks at the list, “We forgot juice, bud,” he tells him, turning the cart around.

“Good catch!” Chanse compliments, pushing the cart back towards the drinks, “Juice or Gatorade?” he questions, “Cuz I wanna run.”

“Gatorade then,” Tommy answers easily, turning them around again to head towards the refrigerated single drinks. He grabs himself a yellow one as well as two waters and puts them in the cart as Chanse grabs a light blue.

“Now we’re ready.” Chanse says, pushing the cart to check out. There’s no line so they walk up to the register and work together to unload the cart. Chanse reaches for his wallet and pouts.

“I didn’t bring my wallet.” he mumbles and Tommy pats his back, pulling out his own.

“You’re my little, buddy. I got it.” Tommy assures him, sighing as Chanse continues to pout, “You can buy dinner or something,” he relents, smiling as the little nods.

They bag their stuff and the cashier hands Tommy the receipt and holds a sticker out to Chanse.

He smiles, happily taking the small smiley face sticker from the man, “Thank you.” he tells him as he hands it to Tommy for safe keeping.

“I love stickers,” the man says with a grin, “Gotta share with my fellow littles,”

Chanse grins and waves as Tommy pushes the cart back to the car, unloading their stuff into the back and placing the cold stuff in the small cooler bag.

After a short drive, they pull up to a park that is more focused on littles than kids.

You can find kids at little parks and littles at kid parks, they’re not mutually exclusive or anything. But a park for littles will just be a little bigger, the seats on all the toys made to fit an adult body, everything just made for people that are bigger. But the play structure isn’t really tall, neither are the slides. And both types of park will have at least one size swing for whatever the demographic isn’t.

Today is a Tuesday, which means the park is fairly empty. Tommy hands Chanse the cooler and puts on the backpack.

“Let’s pick a bench.” Tommy tells him, the little shooting off to the first one he sees, dropping the cooler on it. Tommy rolls his eyes lovingly, “Go ahead!” he calls to him.

Chanse beams, turning and running to the play structure to see how fast he can climb onto the roof.

Tommy sits down and watches him scale the structure, not even bothering to tell him to climb it properly. He gets to the top and waves at him, “I did it!” he yells proudly as Tommy waves back.

He climbs back down, looking around trying to decide what to do. “Can you time me?” he asks, explaining his idea as Tommy pulls his phone out, “I’m gonna run around the tree and come back.” he explains, dropping into a running stance.

“Three, two, one, Go!” Tommy calls out and Chanse runs full speed at the tree, looping around it and coming back. Tommy tells him his time, and this repeats several times until he’s dragged onto the bench and his Gatorade is shoved into his hand.

“You can’t run without hydrating, honey,” he reminds Chanse as he takes a big sip.

He hums, putting the lid back on his drink. “Will you swing with me please?” he asks hopefully and Tommy smiles softly at him, standing up.

Chanse takes his hand and pulls him towards the swings, hopping on and starting to get it moving. “I bet I can get higher faster.” he challenges.

Tommy laughs, slowly pumping his legs, “I bet you can,” he responds easily, “I’m just gonna chill, bub.”

The little huffs dramatically, quickly getting the swing to full speed.

“Very impressive, Chanse.” Tommy praises and he preens, hopping off the swing when it reaches its highest point.

“One sec!” he calls to Tommy, running to his bag and grabbing the jump rope, placing it on the ground in front of the swing. He then gets back on the swing and gets it going again, hopping off at the highest point and marking where he lands with the jump rope.

He gets back on the swing to try again, “Clever idea, just be careful please.” Tommy tells him.

“I will!” he assures him, jumping off slightly further than last time.

Chanse jumps over half a dozen times until he gets to the point where he can’t jump any further. He gets back on his swing, moving at a similar speed to Tommy. “What do you wanna do?” he asks curiously, pulling himself to stand on the swing.

“I’m excited for the chalk,” he admits, “But I want to eat before I get chalk all over my hands, so how about you pick one more thing before we eat.” he adds, checking the time on his phone.

“Can we play catch?” he asks hesitantly, hopping off the swing again.

Tommy hops off his swing, laughing at the surprised look on Chanse’s face, “I’m only two years older than you,” he reminds him, picking up the jump rope off the ground, “We can play catch if that’s what you wanna do.” he tells the little.

They walk back to the bench and take a drink break before grabbing the football and walking off to the side of the playground.

“I’m not the best at throwing a football,” Tommy admits as he throws it to him.

Chanse catches it and throws it back with a grin, “I’m just happy you won’t yell at me,” he says casually, running to catch the ball when Tommy throws it too short.

“I would never yell at you Chanse,” he says firmly, easily catching the ball that the little threw perfectly at him.

“I know,” he responds immediately, “That’s just what used to happen.” he adds as he backs up to catch the ball.

Tommy slowly starts throwing the ball in different directions on purpose, watching Chanse happily run after it to catch it. “You’re doing this on purpose now,” he accuses after 10 minutes and Tommy shrugs.

“I am,” he admits easily, laughing as Chanse catches the ball and doesn’t throw it back, instead running back to him.

Chanse charges straight at him and he steps to the side, wrapping his arms around the little as he runs past, lifting him up into his arms.

“Fuck.” Chanse yells in surprise, Tommy holding him sideways against his chest and facing away from him, “You scared me.” he accuses as Tommy laughs hard, clutching his caregivers arm tightly.

Tommy swings the little onto his back, looking up over his shoulder as Chanse wraps his arms around his neck and legs around his waist, “Are you ok?” he asks genuinely concerned, less so now that he can see the smile on his face.

“You’ve never picked me up like that,” he mumbles as Tommy carries him back towards the bathroom, “I liked it, just scared me for a minute,” he adds.

“Sometimes I forget I can pick you up,” Tommy admits, shooing him off in front of the sink so the two of them can quickly wash their hands and get back to their bags.

Chanse laughs, drying his hands, “It’s cuz I’m bigger,” he reminds him as they walk back to the bench.

“Mentally sure, but I can lift Trevor, so height doesn’t mean that much,” he explains.

The two sit on their bench and unpack all the food. They eat and talk about everything that they want to draw and what they wanna do after the park.

They demolish the pineapple, both eating half the Uncrustables, but having leftover of everything else. Chanse hops up to run and throw the trash away and Tommy uses some of his water to clean his hands, repeating the process on Chanse before grabbing the chalk and unpackaging it.

“Lets go to the good spot,” Chanse says, leading Tommy to his favorite place to color.

With 48 colors, the two easily share as Chanse begins drawing a sword as Tommy starts putting down a design in shades of green.

The two have been coloring and chatting for around 15 minutes when Chanse notices another little staring at them from the play structure, seemingly the only other little at the whole playground. They look around his age, dressed closer to Angela’s little age.

“Tommy?” he says quietly, “Can I ask them if they wanna color?” he asks, gesturing to the little

“You’re such a good boy, Chanse. Of course you can.” Tommy answers easily.

Chanse preens at the compliment and places his chalk down, jogging over to the play structure. “Do you wanna color with us?” he asks nicely, gesturing at Tommy who waves kindly.

The little looks at him hesitantly, looking over at another bench with who Chanse assumes is their caregiver on it.

The caregiver nods so the little nods, carefully climbs down, following Chanse back over to Tommy and hesitantly sitting down when Chanse does.

He holds the box out and the little grabs one, holding it carefully and bringing it down to scribble messily on the concrete.

“I’m Chanse and that’s my caregiver Tommy,” Chanse introduces and the little nods.

“Ya,” they murmur hesitantly looking up at him and back at their own caregiver.

“Your friend can come color too,” Tommy tells them gently and the little smiles tentatively at him, waving their caregiver over.

They walk over, smiling shyly at them and sitting down, the little climbing into their lap.

“I’m Jordon,” the caregiver says quietly, clearly also shy, “And this is Ash. Sorry that they were staring-,” they start but Tommy cuts them off.

“A little wanting to play with chalk is nothing to apologize about” he tells them easily, offering the box to them.

Jordan smiles awkwardly, “I think they were staring because they know who you are,” they admit quietly and the little nods.

Tommy looks at Chanse with concern, but the little doesn’t seem to care in the slightest.

“You like Smosh?” he asks Ash curiously, turning his attention back to his sword.

“Ya.” they answer, continuing to doodle again.

“Me too.” Chanse tells them and they giggle.

He smiles proudly at Tommy before going back to drawing.

Noticing Tommy’s concern Jordan speaks up, “Don’t worry, we won’t say anything to anyone or anything,” they promise, bouncing their little slightly to get them to nod in agreement, “I can’t imagine having a little and also being in the public eye.”

Tommy sighs, letting himself relax slightly, “I’m lucky Chanse doesn’t really care,” he admits, “He’s the most open of us about all of it.”

“I’m little, who cares,” he adds as he finishes his sword, “Look Tommy!”

“That’s so good bub,” he compliments, pulling out his phone to take a picture, “Get in,” he tells the little. “I wanna send it to our friends.”

Chanse grins, posing with the sword before sitting back down to draw something else.

The duo color with the two fans, chatting mainly about TV shows they all like until Jordan’s alarm goes off for them to go.

“Thank you so much for letting us color with you.” they say genuinely, carefully putting the chalk back, “Can you say bye, baby?” they coo at their little.

“Buh bye,” they mumble with a small wave as their caregiver stands up.

Tommy smiles gently, “Bye Ash, nice to meet you,” he coos, “And you too,” he adds, speaking normally to the adult.

“Bye!” chirps Chanse with a small wave, “See you on the TV!”

The adults laugh and the other duo walks away, leaving them alone.

“Reminded me of Angie,” Chanse admits quietly, “Sad eyes,”

Tommy hums, pulling him into a hug. “I’m proud of you,” he tells him, “For being so kind to a stranger and sharing with them.”

Chanse shrugs, “Gotta be nice to babies,” he says easily, placing his chalk back into the box, “Now that I’m the only one here can I climb?” he asks.

“Be safe,” Tommy says as an answer and Chanse runs off to scale the play structure as incorrectly as he can.

Tommy watches his little happily climb up and down over and over, occasionally looking over at him with a proud smile on his face.

He loves every day he gets to spend with Chanse, but the days out with his little boy are definitely some of his favorites.

Now he just needs to admit his feelings to big Chanse,

Then they could spend every day together.

Notes:

First Tommy and Chanse solo fic!

I've been slowly writing this over the last couple days.

Idk why little Chanse is a little athlete but he is, so deal with it lmao

People have also asked about fans, so this is a test of that as well

Anyway, lemme know if this sparks any ideas, and unless I somehow write an entire fic before then, see you after the AO3 nap
