Daytime

Summary:

Buffy and Riley share some time together, and Buffy muses to herself about how daytime dates aren't half-bad.

For Otherworldly Chemistry's 2026 Drabble Fest, using prompt 16, "Golden Sunlight."

Notes:

I didn't mean to write two fics featuring M/F ships about wholesome dates in a row. It just happened. Funny how that works.

Daytime dates are an adjustment for Buffy.

She and Riley, fresh out of their respective lectures, walk around UC Sunnydale's campus, hand-in-hand. They talk about nothing in particular. They enjoy every precious second.

Nights are a bit harder to schedule around. Things don't go bump in the day very often. Vampires are a non-issue. So, daytime dates are even more convenient!

The sunlight, golden and bright, streams down from above. Not that she and Riley couldn't have dates at night, or in the sewer, or covered in demon blood, of course. Still… Buffy admits: she could get used to this.

Wanna hear something funny, reader? I've been a fan of this series for 6 and a half years at this point, and I had no idea that Buffy's birthday was January 19th until yesterday. And I found out via a Tumblr MEME POST. Which is especially ironic, considering that I've taught "Helpless," one of her birthday episodes, every semester that I've taught Buffy in my classes. Amazing.

I'm going to try to write 10 drabbles for this challenge, so one more to go! Once the muse hits me, of course. I don't have any set drabble ideas at the moment, so we'll see what happens. Anyway... Thanks for reading and for any comments!
