Fighting a Vampire Toddler

Summary:

“Is it me or does Alice always give us the shit jobs?” asked Jackson.

“Is it me or does Alice always give us the shit jobs?” asked Jackson.

“She gives them to Rick.” Actually, she was pretty fair about the shit jobs, however Jackson and Logan went on more team missions than solos, so the shit missions doubled up on them.

“If you insist,” said Jackson not believing a thing.

“I don’t think the job is that bad.”

“You’re not the one driving.” For the pass three hours Jackson was driving, including their current thirty minutes up a mountain.

“I offered to switch at the base.”

Jackson remained silent, no matter how much he complained he always preferred to be the one in the driver’s seat.

“Exactly, with all your complaining I might start asking Alice to assign me solo missions.”

“Don’t.”

“Relax,” Logan said with a laugh, “I’m kidding, truthfully I like the shitty jobs.”

Jackson gave him a look that was half glare half confused, “Bullshit.”

“Seriously.”

“So, you are perfectly happy with going to a cabin in the middle of nowhere to maybe find a vampire.”

“Yes.”

“I don’t believe you,” Jackson muttered. So far, the majority of their missions have been checking a place that could have a vampire and leaving, that or fighting a cow, that a vampire decided to bite.

And those missions weren’t exactly glorious, but they were interesting. Like that time Logan killed a vampire with a mirror. Or that pool with that led to a secret vampire rave. Even if the mission suck, he got a story out of it and that was the most important thing.

Especially given that his father was the Great Simon LaRue, renown vampire hunter. The man had a legacy for taking down entire clans of vampires as well as taking out some of the strongest of his generation. It was a legacy that was bordered on impossible to live up to. So, Logan kept his stories because if he couldn’t take down entire vampire clan in one night by himself, he could at least say he fought a demonic cow.

Jackson parked the car away from the cabin. If their map was correct, they had a mile walk to the cabin.

“I still refuse to believe any vampire would live here,” said Jackson, gesturing to the forest.

“And why is that?”

“Too close to the sun,” said Jackson, “It’s high up on a mountain so whatever vampire that’s living here is a starving one, not to mention it’s a small cabin which is too small for a coven.”

“I’m starting to see why you were top of your class.”

“I was in fifth, and what you mean starting?”

Logan rolled his eyes, “You are way too uptight.”

Suddenly they heard sound of hundred tree branches being broken then a crash. The two turned around facing a pale creature in a sparkly black suit. The creature was short with wet black hair, pale white skin, glowing red eyes, and when he smiled, he revealed shiny fangs.

It was clear that they were looking at a vampire that was also a toddler.

“What sick freak bites a toddler?” asked Logan. Turning an adult into a vampire was one thing but a child? That was unforgiveable.

“Fool, I’ll have you know that I am a natural born vampire.”

Logan and Jackson shared a glance. Natural born vampires weren’t unheard of, but they never seen one so young.

“Where are your parents? Did they seriously leave you here all alone?” asked Logan.

“Unlike humans, vampire children don’t need adults, we are far more mature and wiser than you’ll ever be.”

“Oh, you poor baby,” muttered Logan.

“You have too much sympathy for something that wants to kill us,” said Jackson.

“I’m twenty, and I demand your respect,” shouted the vampire.

Jackson rolled his eyes, pulling a piece of garlic out of his pocket.

“I wouldn’t do that if I was you, I have killed hundreds of living creatures, you’re no different.”

“Whatever,” Jackson muttered, he threw the garlic at the vampire. The creature jumped out the way, letting out a hiss.

“You think that thing can kill me! I am a descendant of Jacob van Amstel, my father lived for centuries upon centuries, he had kingdoms bowing to him, and you look like a man my father killed on a whim,” he said, pointing to Jackson. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he did kill your father, you look as pathetic as him.”

The comment would have been more effective if it was directed to Logan, the person with a dead father.

“My father is alive,” said Jackson.

The vampire-toddler was about to respond when a piece of garlic hit his face. He let out a scream as his face swollen up.

“You pathetic piece of shit, I will kill you both and hang your bodies in this forest, I will mangle your corpses so much that even vultures wouldn’t touch you.”

“Alright this is the most talkative vampire I have ever met,” said Logan, “Normally vampires just kill and don’t waste time, but I’m guessing your parents didn’t teach you that, are you sure you’re the son of the great Jacob van Amstel?”

The vampire child shot towards Logan’s face. If he made it, there was no doubt that he would claw Logan’s face. But before the vampire could do so Jackson threw his stake, stabbing the vampire in the chest and nailing it to the tree.

“Damn, that’s impressive.”

“Thank you.”

“But also disturbing,” he pointed to the toddler shaped creature nailed to the tree.

“I mean, it’s not that bad.”

Logan splashed the child with some holy water, watching the vampire disintegrate into dust.

“So, any reason you decided to talk shit to a vampire?” asked Jackson.

“I figured you could use a distraction.”

Jackson gave him a small smile, “I’m glad you’re my partner.”

“You know we still have a cabin to check,” said Logan a bit too happy.

“What is it with you and shitty missions?”

“I just think they’re interesting.”
