Chapter Text
On what seemed like a normal day, a ten year old boy with purple hair, wearing an orange uniform, could be seen running through the forest of Mt Paozu, trying to reach his home as quickly as possible. His name was Son Gohan, the first born son of Goku and Bulma.
Meanwhile, outside a large domed home, a crowd of people stood. They all looked grim as they sensed the fading energy of their friend and comrade Goku. Among them were his childhood friends, Krillin, Tien, Chaiotzu and Yamcha. Yamcha's wife Cho-Chi was also there, along with their twin children Naicha and Miruku who were both eight years old and wearing the orange turtle school uniform. Goku's former rival, the Namekian known as Piccolo was also in attendance, because despite once being sworn enemies, they had become friends over the last few years as a result of fighting common enemies and Piccolo becoming close friends with Krillin.
New members of the group included former world champion Hercule Satan, who had become Yamcha's protege after losing to him in the world tournament. His daughter Videl was also present, who like her father had become Yamcha's student. Both also wore the uniform of the turtle school.
An unexpected member of the present group was a Saiyan named Vegeta. Just a few short years ago, he had been the biggest threat to life on Earth, and had sworn he was going to kill Goku and all those close to him. However like Piccolo, Vegeta had been forced to team up with Goku to fight a common enemy and upon learning more about Vegeta's past Goku had welcomed Vegeta and trusted him as an ally. This trust wasn't shared by many others, as they still believed Vegeta had evil intentions and would kill them the moment he had a chance. They felt the only reason he hadn't killed them all was because he valued his life and Goku and Gohan were still stronger than him, which made the others believe this kept him in line for the time being.
In the arms of Bulma's mother Mrs Brief and her sister Tights were the newest members in the group. Mrs Breif was carrying, her second grandchild and Goku and Bulma's second son. A young boy of two by the name of Bocksa. He had black hair like his father, but it wasn't nearly as spiky. His hair was however noticeably more spiky than his mother's family. In addition to this he also had his mother's bright blue eyes. He was being held by his grandmother because both parents were inside. Despite not being able to sense energy the baby was bawling as if he could sense the pain his father was in and the distress his mother was under.
The young child in Tight's arms was the newest and most unexpected addition to the group. It was a one year old child, also a boy who had been given the name Trunks. He had his mother's blonde hair, and also had black eyes like his mother, but they weren't as large. They were smaller and resembled that of a Saiyan. That's because this child was half Saiyan. To the surprise of everyone, Trunks father was Vegeta. This was surprising as Tights and Vegeta had only met each other a few years prior. Tights was a science fiction writer and regularly traveled for work. Because of this she almost never visited her childhood home and had only become an official member of the Dragon Team a few years prior.
Knowing her sister had a great interest in science fiction, Bulma had revealed her husband's alien origins to Tights. This intrigued Tights who wanted to know more about her Brother-In-Laws, heritage. Unfortunately, this was something Goku couldn't help with, as he knew next to nothing about his alien origins. Circumstances changed when Vegeta had decided to live on Earth.
Vegeta had not only grown up knowing he was a Saiyan, but he had a vast knowledge on the history of the Saiyan race. Her interest only increased when she learnt Vegeta had been prince of the Saiyan's. This led to Tights travelling home to capsule Corp to ask Vegeta more about the Saiyan race, which she intended to turn into a story for the world to hear. Tights didn't mind that the Saiyan's had been evil space pirates. If anything she thought that made them more interesting.
The prince of Saiyan's had been surprisingly compliant with sharing this information. Although he didn't like the idea of his story being told by an earthling, he was nevertheless glad that someone wanted to keep his legacy alive. This led to Vegeta and Tights spending a lot of time together. One thing led to another and eventually Trunks was born. They weren't together however, and Vegeta showed little love for his son. In fact Vegeta had barely acknowledged his existence and so far had had nothing to do with his upbringing. Tights was ok with this, because in addition to coming from a wealthy family, she made more than enough to support Trunks on her own. She also had plenty of support from her family, with her parents being overjoyed to have a third grandchild, Bulma was a doting aunt and Gohan was a loving big cousin. Even Goku whom she didn't know very well seemed to enjoy playing with his young nephew. Or at least he did before he'd gotten sick.
As Gohan began to approach his home. He was spotted by the final two members of the group who were waiting outside. An anthropomorphic pig named Oolong and an anthropomorphic cat named Puar.
"Hey look is Gohan," said Oolong perking up a little.
"He made it," added Puar.
Gohan ignored the present group and headed straight for the door. He entered in a hurry, but abruptly stopped at the sight before him. Gohan's father Goku lay motionless on a bed, while his mother Bulma, grandfather Dr Brief and Goku's former teacher Master Roshi knelt around him.
"Dad?" Gohan asked with concern.
They all turned around in shock. Bulma had tears in her eyes. She ran to Gohan and hugged him.
"Gohan, I'm so sorry, we couldn't save him," she cried.
Gohan looked at his father who was completely still. He then felt all life and energy disappear from his father's body. Goku had passed away.
This had not gone unnoticed by the group outside.
"Guys do you feel that?" asked Krillin. "He's gone, Goku's gone."
The whole group gasped as many of them had felt it too.
"Kak… arot… no," stuttered Vegeta calling Goku by his birth name.
Although he and Goku weren't friends he still felt a surprising amount of sadness by the passing of his rival and one of the last surviving Saiyan's.
A few days ago, Goku had been struck by sudden sickness. They had taken him to a doctor and were told that he had contacted a deadly new heart virus that was affecting many others across the planet. Unfortunately, due to the virus only being discovered recently, there was no cure or treatment to counteract it. Not even a Senzu Bean which the Dragon Team knew could heal nearly any injury, was able to stop the virus. Due to Goku's Saiyan biology, he had been able to fight the sickness a little longer then others, but in a few short days he to lost his life.
To make matters worse. There was no way they could bring him back. Goku had already been revived by the Earth's Dragon Balls, which was a one time solution, and having died of natural causes, not even the more powerful Namekian Dragon Balls could bring him back. Goku was gone for good.
Unfortunately, the loss of a beloved friend and Earth's greatest defender was only the beginning of the true horror that was to come.
Six months later on an island nine miles southwest of South City. A dreadful duo launched an attack. They were artificial beings known only as Android 17 and Android 18. 17 resembled a young man with neck length black hair, who wore a black shirt, with a long sleeved white undershirt, an orange bandanna around his neck and blue jeans. 18 also had neck length hair but it was blond. She wore a jean vest and skirt with a long sleeved black shirt with white sleeves under her vest and dark blue leggings. They possessed unbelievable power and made quick work of the islands inhabitants.
As soon as they learned of the attack, the Dragon Team flew with great speed to stop the attack.
Piccolo was the first to try… and the first to die. Android 18 had managed to kill him in only a few seconds. And with his death, the Earth's Dragon Balls disappeared, making a life saving wish impossible.
Vegeta was the next to fall. Despite achieving the legendary form of Super Saiyan, he had been no match for the androids.
Yamcha fell next, then Tien, Chaiotzu, and finally Krillin. The power the androids possessed was immeasurable. There was no one on Earth who could match their strength. To make matters worse, as androids, the Dragon Team was unable to sense their energy, meaning they were unable to determine how strong they needed to become. Thankfully, the androids weren't without their own flaws. Unlike the Dragon Team they were unable to sense energy. This allowed Gohan to narrowly escape before facing death himself.
Hercule had also survived, as he had been tasked to stay back and defend the children who weren't ready for a fight of this level. This had ensured Earth still had some defenders, but their strength and numbers had significantly decreased. It was a time of uncertainty.
The only thing that was known for sure was that Earth was entering a new era. An era of darkness.
The remaining warriors just hoped they could survive long enough to gain enough strength to defeat the androids.
