The Child Beneath the Cherry Blossoms

Summary:

For some reason, people tend to forget that Lily and James took a year-long vacation to visit many magical places around the world as their honeymoon. And they also forget that they did not quite get back the same Light following the couple they graduated with. And people also did not know about their newest and closest friend, Wei Wuxian, the Grandfather of Demonic Cultivation and the Chinese Dark Lord.

Or Wei Wuxian, a demonic cultivator and dark lord, adopts Harry on behalf of his now deceased friends.

Notes:

Hello, all! This is the first chapter in my new work. I am happy to see you all here. Anyways, here are a few things to keep in mind before starting:

1. I have dyslexia and ADHD. Sometimes things will be spelled wrong or not make too much sense, so feel free to kindly correct me if you see something. Also, I will try to keep a schedule so that there are consistent updates, but life is always a bit chaotic.

2. This is an AU, so things will be diffrent than cannon. For example, this takes place during the middle of Harry's 3rd year, so the whole plot with Sirius will be put on the sidelines, and Harry will be less involved. This is also a fandom crossover, so certain aspects will need to shift and move to incorporate both fandoms and canon. For example, cultivation and magic will be considered the same thing, so I will do my best to incorporate ways to make them both functional while not making the other illogical.

3. I will also be posting a secondary chapter in a different work as a part of this series for more context/explainations/questions/ideas/suggestions for both you and me. This will also have context for characters and such, as I know that MDZS and its characters can be complicated. I will try to keep it simple and not introduce too many things at once, but I do plan to use MDZS as a setting eventually. I am also mixing and matching a new magic system together for this AU, so HP and MDZS fans may want to check it out. Also, I will probably ask questions or for help/ideas on how the story should continue. And all this will be in the secondary work, so I hope to see you there!! Link to Secondary Work

That being said, on to the work. I hope you all enjoy!!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Of Promises Made Beyond the Sea

Chapter Text

It was a forgotten and often overlooked fact that Lily and James decided to take a year-long honeymoon right after their wedding. James had more than enough money in his family vaults to sustain them for a lifetime, so he paused his application to the Auror Academy and planned to travel the rest of the magical world with his wife. Her being a Muggleborn meant that she had not heard of, let alone visited, all the places that his family often vacationed to in his youth, at least the magical ones—their traveling agenda included Egypt, India, North and South America, China, and more after all. It would be a nice opportunity to travel and explore before they were to settle down.

And so they made many friends and collected many rare artifacts, but the most memorable part of their trip was the last three months in China. It was there that they met Wei Wuxian and his family. By pure coincidence, they ran into the strange, eccentric man, his quiet friend, and his excitable child while shopping in Yinling. Many children were running about the area, food stalls lined the area, advertising their food with the aroma, and shops surrounded the area, selling everything from wooden kids' toys to beautiful, handmade instruments. However, the little family stood out from the rest of the city's residents. There was a strong amount of power that just radiated from the couple. The feel of such magic was enigmatic. Hot and cold, calm and chaos intertwined, creating a peaceful bubble around them, simultaneously drawing and repelling the people around them. And so the ever Griffindorish couple made their way over to the table inwhich the two men where sat.

“Hello, sorry to intrude, but you two are wizards, right?” Lily asks with a kind smile and James right behind her, the translation charm still in effect.

“Oh!” the one in dark robes startles before turning to them with a smile as well, “I didn't even notice you there. Yes, we are-” he pauses for a moment before rushing to clarify, “Uh, wizards that it.” The longer-haired male in the white robes remains silent, only turning to the in acknowledgement.

“Ah, good, good. I thought you must be with an aura as obvious as you both.” At ease that the couple was not unfriendly, Lily continued to introduce themselves, “I’m Lily Potter, and this is my husband James. We are visiting from England. It’s nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you, too. I am Wei Ying, courtesy name Wei Wuxian. This is Lan Wangji, courtesy name Lan Zhan. And-” he pauses to look to his side, but stumbles as he looks around until he settles with a smile as he looks across the table at a small child peaking out of the white robes of the other man, now known as Lan Wangji “-this hiding little radish is A-Yuan,” he teases with a soft smile.

Lily and James can’t help but chuckle at the shy boy as he ducks under Lan Wangji’s now raised arm even more. “Well, isn’t he just adorable?” James comments while gently poking at the exposed top of A-Yuan’s head, making him bury his head even farther into the gold-eyed man’s side.

This prompts the man to speak for the first time in their interaction, “A-Yaun.” This gets the child to re-emerge from his hiding spot, just barely peaking his eyes up at his father, mumbling a small, “Yes, Ada?”

“Why don’t you greet our new friends?”

The boy pauses for a moment before saying, “Hello. Nice meeting you.”

The brunette nods appreciatively before picking A-Yuan up by his underarms and setting him on the ground before suggesting, “How about A-Yuan goes to find his friends or Luo Qingyang?” This seems to do the trick as the kid beams up a bright smile before exclaiming an excited, “Ok, Ada,” and running towards the area by the pier.

Both Lily and Wei Wuxian give out a hearty laugh while shaking their heads. “It’s probably going to be a bit before we get A-Yuan back. Why don’t you come sit with us for a while?” Of course, the Potters couldn’t refuse such an invitation from the entertaining couple. And to say they hit it off from there would be an understatement.

Lily and Wei Wuxian were like twins who were separated from birth, and James heavily reminded Wei Wuxian of Jian Cheng. The connection was spontaneous, but somehow also long overdue. And so they spent pretty much all of the three months learning about the different clans and traditions of the region from Wei Wuxian and occasionally Lan Wangji.

It was also there that Lily found her love for Sound magic, even being given a flute from Lan Wangji as a parting gift, and where James began to study his family’s history of natural tychomancy. But sadly, their time ran short, as Lily discovered that she was two months pregnant. Promising to revisit the two men, who, even though they were clearly in love, were in fact not a couple, they headed home to England. The transition back into normal life and work was strange for the couple, especially as the war with the Dark Lord ramped up. Though for the most part, they were able to avoid too much involvement with the war. That was until Dumbledore came to their home with the announcement that there had been a prophecy possibly involving their son.

If division classes taught Lily anything, it would be that most prophecies were utter nonsense, and the same thing could be applied to this one. Sure, their son would be born in July, the seventh month, but so were many other children. Neither of them had “defied” the Dark Lord, even a single time, either. Not to mention, Harry was just a child. What hope did a child have to defeat someone over sixty years his senior! But if there was one thing Lily was certain of, it would be that the Dark Lord had lost some of his sanity or at least soul. Likely due to the lack of proper knowledge on how to safely use the Dark Arts.

And so, it was that night that they decided to do everything, and they meant everything in their power to protect their son. Pulling all the strings they could, both Dark and Light. They would ensure their child's life, even if it meant spending their lives in prison or dying. Lily just hoped that at least one of them would be with him. Their home was also hidden using the Fidelius Charm, courtesy of Dumbledore. They also choose to have the secret keeper as their old classmate and friends Peter, as opposed to Sirius, at the last minute. Taking precaution they could, they both wrote their last wills in case the worst happened to both of them. Yet still, that fateful Halloween night ended in tragedy all the same.

“James!” Lily screamed in terror as she watched the door being blasted open from the outside.

“Run! Lily, run! Protect Harry-”

That was the last thing she heard her husband say before running upstairs to activate the talesman that Wei Wuxian provided in a letter from over a year ago. She also sent an owl away with a letter she never wished to send, whispering a quiet, “Please, Wei Wuxain, protect my child.” But before she could do anything else, a black-cloaked figure entered the nursery.

“Foolish girl. I do not need to kill you, just step aside,” came a chilling, raspy voice.

“No, please! Not my Harry! Please!” she begged, trying to reason with the crazed man.

“Step aside, girl. I will not be patient forever.”

“No,” she cried, “take me, not him.”

“That is not how this works, foolish girl. The boy needs to die, so step aside now or join him.”

With one last defiant, “no,” she seals her fate and is killed with the signature bright green glow of an avada kadavra. But it was that sacrificial love that was the last step to activate the talesman from her dear friend. And when the Dark Lord moved to the infant and whispered the same curse, the spell backfired. Sealing his fate.
