It was the first day of Carter’s required engineering course, Engineering 102. He was sitting alone at a table in the back half of the lecturing hall, where he intended to pay minimal attention. He didn’t even need this course! He was in the aviation program, not engineering, but for SOME reason the higher ups thought it would be good for future pilots to understand exactly how their plane flies. Eh. It seemed silly to him.
But he was here! Textbook and everything!
“Mind if I sit here?” a male voice to his left asked. Carter turned to see what nerd asshole he was going to have to deal with for the rest of the semester and—
His jaw dropped. He was stunning. Dark hair, darker eyes with something behind them he couldn’t quite place, and a bright smile on his face.
“...Is anyone sitting here yet?” Carter didn’t realize he was staring.
“Oh! No, it’s just me…”
“Well good!” the man pulled the chair out and flopped down into it, “...wouldn’t want to leave someone like you back here all alone…” A smile curled up on his lips as he made eye contact with Carter.
The man moved with a smooth confidence Carter hadn’t expected, and it was captivating. Only 5 minutes ago he was wondering what it would take to drop this course, but now he couldn’t imagine a world not seeing this man again. The man extended his hand to his new partner, “My name’s Matthias. Matthias Tanek.”
This was going to be interesting.
