Work Text:

Avexis has been worried. His sister had disappeared a few days ago, and it seemed like he was the only one who was even looking. He hadn’t even been paying attention in school! ..His parents had yelled at him a lot because of it.

Avexis yawned, glancing out his window for a moment. He hoped to see Vivian—Viv. He had to get that right. She didn’t like her full name. ..Avexis didn’t mind his, but she called him Vex lots. It was nice, he supposed.

He paused, having to double check. He looked back out the window and gasped, pressing his face to it. “..Viv?” He mumbled, eyes wide. There she was, standing in the grass. Her dress was ripped and she looked dirty. Vex shivered at that. He knocked on the window, causing her head to snap up to him. She slowly raised her hand and waved. He waved back. She then pointed at him and then at her. “..What.” She frowned, seeing his reaction and pointed at the grass. Vex had to take a moment before realizing. He nodded, giving a thumbs up.

He scrambled out of bed, grabbing his socks and tugging them on. He slipped his boots and coat on before quietly sneaking down stairs, as to not wake their parents up. He pushed the door open, feeling the cold night air on his skin. “Viv!” He quietly shouted, running over to where he had seen her. She stood there, her hair covering her eyes as always. “..Hello. V..Vex.” Her voice sounded shaky, as she stepped forward. He quickly ran over and tackled her to the ground, hugging her. “Viv! Oh my God, where were you??” He noticed her wince for a moment, slowly pushing him off. “Vex, I have told you I do not like physical affection…” She murmured, head turning away. Vex blinked before laughing sheepishly. “Ehm, sorry. But seriously, Viv. Where were you??” He asked, glaring at her. She seemed to still, scratching her arms.

There was silence for a bit.

“..Viv–?” “Vex. Would you.. Would you still stay around me if I.. I um..” She trailed off, pulling her knees to her chest. Vex tilted his head. “If you what?” She let out a shaky sigh, looking over at him. Her eyes were still covered. “If I had been turned into.. Something.” She mumbled into her legs. “Turned into what?” Viv opened her mouth to speak but closed it. “..I..” She choked out a dry sob, hands reaching up to tug and her hair. “Wha- Viv!” He grabbed her wrists carefully, pulling them away from her hair. “Do not tug on your hair, you’ve literally told me not to do that.” Viv’s hands were shaking. Her whole body was. “I- Vex I’m..” Viv didn’t seem to be actually crying, he couldn’t see any tears.

She went quiet for a moment, just quiet sobs and whimpers coming from her mouth. Vex went to say something before stopping, eyes widening at red coming from under her hair. “V-Viv?! U-Uhm- are.. Are you h-hurt?” He asked, staring at the red liquid that looked almost identical to fresh blood. She tugged her wrists out of Vex’s hold, reaching a hand up to wipe the blood. “S-Sorry..” She stuttered out. Vex hadn’t heard her stutter.. Almost ever! She inhaled sharply, looking at the ground. “I’m a monster, Vex. They-” She let out a sob, “-They turned me into one of those things—a.. A.. A vampire– and-” More blood fell from under her hair. “..A vampire?” Vex asked. She nodded, brushing her hair aside. Her eyes weren’t like.. How most fiction and art portrayed vampires and stuff. What was usually the whites of her eyes were blood red and stripped with white, leading to her pupils which were a bright white and were glowing slightly. Blood fell down her now porcelain white skin from her eyes.

“I-..” She looked at him before looking at the grass below the two. “..Vex, you would not.. Y-You would not hate me.. Right?” Vex’s eyes widened. “V-Viv, you’re my sister! Sure, you read a lot of books sometimes and it’s weird, but you’re my sister! I don’t think I can hate you.” She looked up at him. She opened her mouth to speak before closing it. Vex sighed. “You know, what. Turn me.” Viv blinked. “W-What-” “You’re my sister, and frankly, the only one who respects me and lets me do my art. Vampires are, um.. Immortal right?” “I-I think- but Vex-” “I’d rather be doing art and being a vampire with you than not being allowed to make art and having to study to be a um… A- Whatever our parents want me to be! So—” He stuck his arm out, pulling up sleeve, “do it.” Viv blinked. “...Ok. Y-Yeah, I guess that is..” She frowned. “Vex, you are an idiot.” Vex gasped dramatically, putting a hand to his chest. “How could you?! My own twin sister!” He put the hand to his forehead, closing his eyes dramatically. He heard Viv let out a laugh. He let out a laugh as well.

Vex stuck his arm out again. “Alright, come on. I wanna be a vampire with you.” He said, eyes sparkling. “..You are fine with drinking blood, right?” “I guess, if I’m a vampire. I gotta be, right?” Viv looked at him before sighing and nodding. “Well, it is going to hurt, okay?” “Like those shots doctors give sometimes, yeah?” “..Yeah.”

He felt her hesitantly take his arm, her hands shaking. He looked away as she leaned down. And then he felt her bite him. It didn’t hurt much, at first. Then he started feeling lightheaded. Loss of blood, he assumed. His eyes drooped and he raised a hand to rub his eyes. He felt.. Weak. Then there was nothing. It felt like he was floating. He couldn’t feel anything.

..And then everything hurt at once.

Vex sat up, flailing around. He felt weird. He felt disgusting. Like he had messed himself up. He felt someone take his hands down from his hair, which they had somehow gotten up to there instinctively. “-ex? Vex-? Avexis??” Vex’s vision cleared and he saw Viv. They weren’t in the field. They were in some weird cabin-like place. “Can you hear me?” Vex nodded. “Good, good.. Ok. Um… So, I turned you. I tried to do it the same way the guy who turned me did it.” She unwrinkled her dress, letting his hands go in the process.

Vex stared at her for a moment before looking at his hands. They were pale. Like, super pale. Porcelain even. He looked down. “So.. I can.. Just do whatever now? No parents forcing me to do stuff?” Viv hummed in response to his question. He grinned. “I will take that as a win, then!” He stretched his limbs, trying to get used to it. He noticed Viv smile before it faded to her normal unmoving expression. He smiled as well.
