Work Text:
“Kamurai-senpai really likes being close to you, doesn’t he?” Luca remarks casually one day.
They tilt their head, lips downturned in unnecessarily deep contemplation. “You think so?”
Kaito jumps forward. “He holds your hand all the time. Like, dude, there’s no need to hold hands on a 5-minute walk to a restaurant!! What’s gonna happen in that time with all of us around?! And we all know that you’re not actually planning on using your powers!! Like, talk about personal space, right!?”
Luca furrows his brows. “Didn’t you say you also wanted to hold their hand then—”
“AHHHHHHHH XIUFOWHOIFHIUSFS!!!” He waves his hands, shaking his head back and forth so quickly that they can almost see two heads at once.
“Wow,” they say obliviously as Kaito glares at Luca, making a cutting motion at his throat, “I didn’t realise it was possible to buttonmash in person.”
Luca clears his throat. “Right, I’ve noticed he likes to call on you a lot as well…” He hooks a finger to his lips and tilts his head consideringly. “...He must really like your work ethic.”
Kaito coughs loudly. “‘Work ethic’.”
Luca continues, a frown forming. “He doesn’t make you do too much work, does he? I can talk to him about it if you’d like.”
“Not really, just dry-cleaning and organising files—stuff like that.”
“Isn’t he practically treating you like a servant then!? Rich people, I swear…”
“Well, I’m always running around anyway, so it’s not like I’m going out of my way. And actually…” At this, they pause and furrow their eyebrows.
The other two look at each other, equal-parts concerned and bemused.
After a long silence, they shake their head slowly, unsurely. “Now that I think of it… Nowadays he doesn’t make me do much. For a while, actually..” As if still thinking, they trail off after muttering the last part.
“What does he call you for then?” Kaito breaks the silence, unable to bear the curiosity.
“Well, last time, he sent me these fancy clothes to wear, so I did. And then he told me he got an R&R, so we took the limo to the city and went to the opera…”
“So he made you escort him off campus?” Luca says, straightening his shoulders.
“There’s no way he should be allowed to do that.” Kaito fumes, though it seems to be for a different reason than Luca.
The steam the two get going is considerably deflated by the shake of their head.
“No, he only took me because I mentioned I was interested…”
“And before that, he took me to dinner at this place I said I wanted to go. But he didn’t make me pay or anything.”
“Um…” Kaito starts, then shuts his mouth, opens it again, and closes. He looks to Luca for help.
“Do you think Kamurai-senpai is interested in you romantically?” Luca asks.
Kaito shakes his head. “That’s already obvious. …Um, are you sure you two aren’t dating?”
A saccharine ringtone drowns out his question
—Me and my husband, we’re sticking together—
They hold their hand over the phone’s speakers and wince.
“Sorry guys, I forgot I was meant to do something with Jin!” Getting up, they quickly pack their lunch box. “I’ll see you guys later!”
Luca waves at their retreating figure before patting Kaito on the shoulder, giving a sympathising smile.
Kaito sighs deeply, slumping over and leaning into his touch.
“They’re a bit oblivious, aren’t they?” Luca remarks fondly, giving him a few pats.
“I DON’T WANT TO HEAR THAT FROM YOU.”
When they reach his room, he drawls, “10 minutes late—again” from where he lies on the couch.
They huff an amused smile and plop down next to him (moving so his head can rest on their lap).
They sit in comfortable silence, drifting their fingers through his silky hair. His eyes are closed as they continue the wordless routine.
Suddenly, their fingers pause and a laugh bursts out of their throat as they think of their previous conversation.
He raises an eyebrow.
“Kaito and Luca were joking about something,” they explain. “They thought you liked me.”
At his confused silence, they clarify, “Romantically.” and laugh again.
After another moment, he says simply, “...Isn’t that obvious?”
Their laugh stops short. They blink. Then blink again.
Their eyes open wide, eyebrows raising to the sky. “Wait, what?!”
He frowns fondly (and why are they so familiar with his fondness?). “Why else would we be in a relationship?”
Memories flash through their head over the past few months: how touchy he’s been, how Jin’s name appears more than any other in their call history (and when did they start calling him Jin away?), how he never makes them do anything for him anymore. How he gives them clothes and jewellery and food worth more than the other students’ tuition.
Ah, shit.
It’s somewhat humiliating that it took this long to realise—even for them—but now they have, they're more concerned with not hurting his feelings.
They open their mouth to dig a pit of lies when Jin sits up, gradually trapping them where they sit.
“You didn’t know we were dating.” His tone is flat.
“Sorry…”
He sighs fondly, repeating, “You didn’t know we were dating.”
Before they can say anything more, he continues, “I confessed to you, and you said yes. You don’t remember that?”
They give an awkward chuckle. “Honestly, Jin, you should know how bad I am at listening by now.”
He runs an exasperated hand through his hair and mutters something that sounds like "That explains a lot."
He leans in a little closer, hands grasping the sofa on their sides. “You can’t take it back now.”
They smile and look into his eyes, a slight nod of their head. They hadn't exactly been devastated by the revelation.
Jin's always been... indescribably amazing, and dating him has—thinking back—been pretty, weirdly great too.
“I love you," they say, and their chest warms with the realisation that it feels so right to say it to him.
He’s a sliver away from their lips and his longing gaze fixes them in place. “Say that again.”
But before they do, he closes the distance and they can't say much of anything anymore.
“You really didn’t realise we were dating?”
“Is that why you lent me that yacht? I thought you were just being rich.”
“No, we weren’t dating then. That was me being rich and stupid for you.”
“Huh.”
“Speaking of, you’re never getting on a boat again without me,” he says, and kisses their cheek.
